    that spinning interface thing looks horrible...meh...

    Wow.

    For some reason this game never registered as something to check out, until now.

    Really loving the combat you see in this vid. The twitch based combat that really gives the player more "resposibility" in the batle. Much like AoC but this seems to be fasted paced and more advanced.

    I will definitelly check this game out some more.

    I see it's a beta vid, is it open or closed beta? Will there be an open beta? And finally, does this game have a official release date set yet?

    it's a demi-shooter with all the skill options and depth of an MMO.

    shame this topic will be moved, TCOS if it has a sucessful release will get quite a few ranters to shut up.

    I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

    I don't know maybe it's just me... but I liked it.  From what little bit of the world that was shown, I thought it was crafted well.   The combat is different, in a good way.   The interface looked cleaned and very well laid out.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

    As much as I love realistic artwork, I have to admit the zone is very beautiful. It seems that their art department has a keen eye for how shaders should be used, how textures ought to be laid out, and how animations should work. All in all, it makes me want to play the game more so and it quells my concerns with respect to bugs, considering how well the in-game combat worked without a hitch.

    so nice to 'eventually' have a choice in what we play.

    it doesn't look too bad. But I got a feeling it's going to sink under the radar like anything else that launches this year because of AoC and Warhammer launching.

    it will have a small player base...but as long as there are people to play with im happy....100k subs is my predection

    This game has so much going for it,its unreal. I know here on mmorpg they are avid supporters of anything american lol..Here we have a mmorpg that is unique but has very little support from pro war/aoc sites like this.

    Yes, a good game will sell it self to some extent. WAR and AoC is really hyped. And while I personally like the RvR concept of WAR, that's pretty much it actually. As for AoC, for some reason I have gone from really looking forward to the game since announced, to not really care so much any longer.

    But don't get me wrong, this game could be the greatest thing since sliced bread and I would still drop it the second I get the chance to step through a stargate in SGW

    SGW is definitely a contender. I get the feeling that while the giants are busy hyping there game they cant hear the silent approach of  these two outsiders.

    Video looks very good but the concept behind the Skilldeck, I don't like it at all. It reminds of a card game, completely unrealistic in a MMORPG, as I see it.. that's a pity.

    No offense but "unrealistic in a MMORPG"? Could you elaborate what you mean by that?

    The skilldeck and the fact that it adds tactic to the game is one of the most interesting thing for me in this game. It's like you could respec in WoW on the fly, now that would be fun.

    And the fact you need to consider different tiers of this wheel makes for even more tactics to consider.

    It's a very interesting way to limit your attacks, like other games use cooldowns and combo points etc.

  • paulscottpaulscott Member Posts: 5,613

    the skill deck is very well used when it comes to combos.  there are three steps.  combo start, X moves inbetween, and combo end.  you could put a combo start and end on every tier but then you only have a few more open slots to put skills(1 at low levels 3 open slots at higher).

    this is one of those mechanics that makes different people play noticeablely different.  since you only have access to those 5 skills on your tier you'll have some people who have a healing ability on every tier, some that load up healing abilities on some tiers, even the use of the first tier is very very important as you can get to that tier by doing nothing for a little while.

    the spinning wheel is something that's perfect for explorers since there's always something new and different you can try.  great for achievers as you optimize the hell out of it.  and amazing for killers since it adds a whole lot of strategy to combat, and provides the perfect amount of option limitation and expansion.   The whole system is a great way to make a reletivly(MMO wise) fast paced system mangable.

    very different from other MMO's which allow you to do anything at any time.  which leads to the same builds since whatever you like to use yourself is always there.   here you need to find a balance between the 'standard' and abilities that you use yourself.

    I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

    Yes, a certain amount of realism is needed, not the kind of realism we see in everyday life, but the one we have learnt from fantasy stories. I find it hard to find a reason why a mage can't use a spells he has mastered until he has used one from... one side of that "deck".

    It could be said that one spell would need a previous one that opened some kind of magic energy window, but then, how could you arrange any spell in any deck. Well they say you have restrictions but I'm afraid they wont' be anything like I'm imagining here.

    edit: maybe "logic" would be a better word than "realism"

  • paulscottpaulscott Member Posts: 5,613

    because it's logical that story book wizzards are able to use a few thousands spells at any time.   the upper limit of 'working' memory is seven, it doesn't matter who you are that is the limit.   the only way around this limit are peg systems which would be similar a shoe meaning two things, or memorizing 122344 as 12, 23 and 44.

    though to be perfectly honest I find it short of unbelievable that people are complaining about a system.  it's like they don't want developers to try anything new or take risks.  it's pretty obvious why because for every few people you have that like a system you have one or so that will go out of there way to convince them it sucks.

    edit: the first post wasn't too bad.  the second one you're defending yourself I guess.   but when it gets released there will be people that are 'serious' about convining people that the system sucks.

    I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

    Excellent!

    I have to say, I stopped following Spellborn for a long time, but this vid is really impressive in my view.

    I love the artstyle right down to the typeface they use.  The world looks interesting and seems to have the hard-to-define "sense of place" that is so important.

    I don't really get the rotating UI thingy, but apparently the player does and it seems not difficult to operate.

    Movement during combat seems important and that I definitely LIKE.  More strategic.

    I am REALLY liking the style of the UI and the way the on-screen "floaty numbers" are being used.

    The sound effects (which, of course, may be beta placeholders) I think have that certain "unusual" quality that makes them very much uniquely "Spellborn" in character.

    The music is excellent and atmospheric.

    I love that targeting cursor and the whole "shooter" aspect of the combat.

    ~~~
    Thanks for posting this.  Spellborn had fallen off my radar, but after viewing this, I can see that game appears to be in GOOD shape.
    This probably should be moved over to the Spellborn Forum so fans can find it more easily.
    ~~~

    I don't know how all the gameworld looks, but that atmospheric haze in the air really gives the game a certain feeling, which I like.

    This video is extremely IMPRESSIVE.
