You can't buy the client and the expansions they don't give away (ROTW, TOOW) anywhere at this point...
Not at D2D...
Not at Station Store...
Not at LEC....
Not at retail....
Has any MMO ever done this before?
This is at BEST for the NGE VERY VERY VERY bad mismanagement...
At the worst... It's the first concrete sign of GAME OVER. The first thing that would vanish for a MMO that is being shut down would be the client with 30 days gametime.
Either that or they are going to make it FTP. Even if they did that I doubt they'd double the subs.

Sweet!
Seems very fishy, but still tastes like chicken!
This would prolly be the greatest thing SOE has ever done if the end of NGE was forthcoming! SWG just disappearing like this is something I've never seen before. Maybe they're answering the consumers outcries and removing all the NGE tainted copies and are planning on a relaunch!
I don't really like SOE, but I would definitely be interested in giving SWG another go if this theory comes to fruition!
Kemih ~ 13 Red Mage | Currently playing FFXI & LOTRO, awaiting Warhammer Online & Aion...
I don't believe it. If this were the end they'd at least still allow us to buy year subscriptions
Ya I checked but you left out that you can instead...
Buy RoTW for $24.99
or TooW for $24.99
I'm on the page atm... hell why buy it all for $29.99 when you can pay 50 bucks for those two expansions *.*.
I think the idea is that its not on D2D suddenly and somebody (to not be named) made such a big deal that it was the NUMBER ONE seller on D2D... for MMO's or whatever.
I know the complete collection was there not that long ago.
/shrug
LOL
SOE is probably hoping that some poor smuck pads SWG sales numbers.
I read on the official boards that the deal with D2D ran out and it's being moved to the SOE online store. I thought Valara had posted about it, but I can't find the thread now.
Unfortunately it's not the end, but I have been known to be wrong...
No offense. Here's to you being wrong.
This move is like the enemy falling back to the last stand point which is the Station Store. Sounds like this game is near the end anyway...
I'm a bit confused as to why SOE elected to give D2D exclusive rights to this game and cease all sales of it themselves, but then SOE might have wanted to save some bandwidth from their transaction servers for a bit while they retool or something.
Still, it is rather amusing that RoTW and ToOW are priced as they are when you can by the whole shebang for less.
The price point for ToOW hasn't gone down far enough for me to consider re-purchasing it after I got my refund over two years ago on it.
Then again, the price point on access to the basic game itself hasn't gone down low enough for me to consider reactivating any of my three accounts.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Well D2D does do EQ, EQ2, Vanguard, and PotBS from SOE as well. Maybe they got a good deal from them. Besides several other MMO's are sold there too.I agree though the prices for the expansions are ridiculous when you can buy one game with all the expansions. I guess they left it up for those who want the additional items that came with those expansions. Anything SOE does marketing wise is a complete mystery I guess. You have to wonder how they even stay in business at times. I realize not every game from SOE is like SW:G, but when you're running 20+ servers for one game that could probably due with 6, it's like throwing money out the window. Maybe that's the reason for all the lag, they lease out their servers to D2D for downloads? New conspiracy theory anyone?
From what I understand, it was a limited promotional thing LucasArts and Direct2Drive did together (DeadMeat talks about needing to contact LA to see about making it available internationally). Now that the promotion has ended, it's being moved from the D2D store to SOE's own Station store, according to Valara. Pretty sure it didn't get pulled from the D2D store due to bad sales since it was D2D's top selling game as of last week.
Probably a brother-in-law deal.

Could this impact why it was the #1 download, and why it was removed from DD?

No. The Buddy Tokens came from the trial at www.tryswg.com not from the Complete pack. Being that most credit farmers aren't from the US, I don't think they would have been able to farm the pack from D2D anyway.

Then is there any reason why it would be taken off DD suddenly with no other immediately available download site?

But that doesn't explain why it would be left unavailable atm. Shouldn't it have been at least overlapping in availability? And shouldn't there have been some communication to ensure people don't assume the worst?
Or was it just poor planning and poor communication?
One can still DD from SOE but it appears to be the best keep secret in MMO history. Its going to make it alot easier to hit the kill switch on the servers.
I can't believe i am posting here again ... but ....wth......... it's been a long long time
I was in Best Buy a couple of weeks ago and did NOT find ANYTHING related to SWG.
I did however see lots of EQ and EQ2 games.
If LA is happy with this crap, then they can keep it. SWG PreCU was the BEST game on the market then and since. It beats the HELL out of WoW. Even with all the bugs it had.
I know this first hand, as my nephew and I have been playing it for well over a year. WoW is one dimentional game .... Quest, kill, loot, repeat. Crafting is a joke ... no matter who you are ... everyone puts the same items in and everyone get the same item out ......
I don't know if this signals the end of SWG ... but one could only hope.

The communication was there in a way, I linked you to where Valara posted about a week before that it would be coming to the Station Store. Bad planning could be a more likely reason of why the availability isn't overlapping to phase it in.As a side note, you can get the original Complete pack (with out the ITV) through the new Station Launder.
As of this week SOE has broken two cardinal rules of business.
First, the changes to their payment scheme making it harder to subscribe.
And now, making it so hard to get the complete game that you need to be Columbo to do it.
Competently managed and run businesses don't make these kinds of mistakes, not once, not the hundreds of times SOE has made similar blunders. Oh, and didn't Neri speak of improving communication again at warcry? Where is the communication here?
This once again proves why I have mixed feelings about Smed getting fired. On the one hand, he deserves it 10 times over. On the other hand, they might actually replace him with someone who knows what the hell they are doing, wipe out the other incompetents at SOE and actually turn the thing around when I want to see it crash into the earth.
You see, the Smed is the best friend to those of us who want to see the end of the NGE and SOE, because no one else could do a better job of achieving that even if they tried, even if one of us was snuck in as president of SOE and did it on purpose!

lol, business as usual. What a buncha friggin monkeys.
SWG? Pull the plug already!
Just because they say it will be back and for sale again doesn't mean that it will be. Remember the FRS?
SOE's word cannot be taken as having any value because they've long since lost through repeated lies, deceptions and half truths any standing to be taken as honorable or honest. Only their actions can be taken.

So.... what does this mean? What excuses are there for this snafu?
One can only hope this is the beginning of the end. Real question is though, do they still offer a "subscribe for 1 year" option for new/renewing subs? When you see that go, then you'll know when the time will be.
