Oh but please oh please take my cookie away! I grew bored of wow a long time ago and have all but quit. I've hoped from the beginning that WAR would take it's place, at least for me. Problem is they have yet to bake a yummier cookie so you might want to hold off on your gloating. You see, I choose no side, I only responded to what I thought was unnecessary aggression. I don't think he had any right to assume anything about you, but it's the constant cries of "WoW-clone!!!1111111!!!1 ZOMG!!!" over and over and over and over and over again on these forums that get these guys so angry.
Plainly put, and without any bias (as I was once a subscriber of WoW and personally have no issue with the game or with Blizzard), WoW's visual style is a derivative of Wahammer's art style that has been around since before Blizzard entertainment was a twinkle in it's creator's eyes. You cannot clone something that is in and of itself a clone of your own product. That would be like cloning yourself, and then cloning your clone, but hating the second clone because it is too similar to the 1st which was in fact similar to you in every way.
Personally, I've always loved WoW's graphic style, and the way that the entire world lives and breathes in one cohesive art style. Every blade of grass is Azeroth, and I love that so I am personally ecstatic that Mythic kept that art style in their depiction of the Warhammer world. I am, however, glad they've upped the poly count, and made things a bit moodier, but thats just a personal preferrence.
Oh, and as a response to something you said a few posts back about WAR 'living in WoW's shadow" I'll say this; Every release from here on out will unavoidably be compared to, and subsequently live in the shadow of WoW. 10 million subs, even including the 5 million chinese farmers, and dual accounts is an insanely large shadow....

I played WoW for a year and a half, reached level 70 with a Gnome Warrior, and made many good friends in the process. You are right, I do believe the game is a waste of time.

I will say this though, WoW's quest delivery system was in it's time very innovative, and for that I will concede that most games are cloning that one idea. I've played pretty much every MMO to day, aside from EVE and other sci fi games, and none before that I had played had that quest system.

I am, however, glad they've upped the poly count, and made things a bit moodier, but thats just a personal preferrence.
Oh, and as a response to something you said a few posts back about WAR 'living in WoW's shadow" I'll say this; Every release from here on out will unavoidably be compared to, and subsequently live in the shadow of WoW. 10 million subs, even including the 5 million chinese farmers, and dual accounts is an insanely large shadow....

If the gameplay though seems too cloned it will not do well. Grats on the vid BTW but how close to release do we have to wait to finally see some impressive gameplay vids? They are waiting for you, and only you to give up on following WAR. They have some potential playerbase bugs and they need to clear things up before they release any more videos.

Fact is wow came before WAR. WAR, unless the most rabid fans are right, will probably always live in wow's shadow. Actually, Warhammer HAS been around for 25 years. We are not comparing the MMOs but only the reasons they look similar. aka. Art, Lore, Concepts, "Cartooniness" When Blizzard was a small company they applied for access to the Warhammer IP. At this time they were in the process of creating a Warhammer lore based game. Upon failing to please Games Workshop with thier plans for the game (we know how protective GW is), Games Workshop denied Blizzard (Blizzard wanted to modify too much of the lore). After being rejected by Games Workshop, Blizzard simply relabed and changed the content they had already created in the Warhammer based game, and thus you have "Warcraft".

That is actually my main concern with WAR. I am petrified that it will be nothing but kill x quests, or delivery boringness. I play DDO currently and could never do another Fedex quest for the rest of my life and die happy.
RVR will definitely define WAR's success, or lack there of. I played Daoc for a few months back when it first came out, and loved that aspect of the game. My fear is that there will be a lack of meaningful World PVP in WAR, as they are going to have instanced scenarios from early on.

I think the reason WoWers are posting in this forum is because either...
a) They are scared this game with take over (it will).

I played WoW for a year and a half, reached level 70 with a Gnome Warrior, and made many good friends in the process. You are right, I do believe the game is a waste of time.

OK Warcraft uses the lore of Warhammer. But any game, even WAR, can be a clone of WoW if is uses its mechanics.

I will say this though, WoW's quest delivery system was in it's time very innovative, and for that I will concede that most games are cloning that one idea. I've played pretty much every MMO to day, aside from EVE and other sci fi games, and none before that I had played had that quest system.
(I have a sneaking suspicion that this conversation will soon turn into an infamous WoW has 10 million subscribers attempt at an auto-arguement-win).
Regardless, if you would like for me to point out the obvious, I will introduce the the ideas stolen from the World of Warhammer in the form of pictures (followed by an accompanying explaination).

Maybe they did rip off warhammer and god bless em for it! Seems to me GW's refusal to provide their IP is the best thing that could have happened. Maybe the fact that they did so well dispite that is what has warhammies all worked up. What has warhammer given to video gamers that comes even close to what blizzard has? If your ire at blizz is so terrible that it keeps you from having fun in some great games then you get to be a nerd. Why don't we just hold off for now. When warhammer is released we can actually compare game to game. So far you have nothing to show but some decent animations and I guess some lore that got matched and given to the masses in the form of some great games.

I say "poo poo" because I wouldn't want to be accused of pseudo intellectualism. Besides, his only beef is some obscure corporate history as if that should turn people from wow. I don't think he had any right to assume anything about you, but it's the constant cries of "WoW-clone!!!1111111!!!1 ZOMG!!!" over and over and over and over and over again on these forums that get these guys so angry.Plainly put, and without any bias (as I was once a subscriber of WoW and personally have no issue with the game or with Blizzard), WoW's visual style is a derivative of Wahammer's art style that has been around since before Blizzard entertainment was a twinkle in it's creator's eyes. You cannot clone something that is in and of itself a clone of your own product. That would be like cloning yourself, and then cloning your clone, but hating the second clone because it is too similar to the 1st which was in fact similar to you in every way.
Personally, I've always loved WoW's graphic style, and the way that the entire world lives and breathes in one cohesive art style. Every blade of grass is Azeroth, and I love that so I am personally ecstatic that Mythic kept that art style in their depiction of the Warhammer world. I am, however, glad they've upped the poly count, and made things a bit moodier, but thats just a personal preferrence.

When the first warhammer screens and vid game out I was impressed by the darker, grittier characters and atmosphere. I've been less and less impressed with consecutive media. It seems lifeless. I can get more detailed but don't want to bore you if you already know what I mean. All that aside I think they could pull enough people from wow mainly with a better pvp system. If the gameplay though seems too cloned it will not do well. This game needs people from wow as much as we hate to admit it, as well as new players who will likely be comparing the two and chosing one over the other. Just please god don't ask me to order EAgame's site. Never again.

That is actually my main concern with WAR. I am petrified that it will be nothing but kill x quests, or delivery boringness. I play DDO currently and could never do another Fedex quest for the rest of my life and die happy.RVR will definitely define WAR's success, or lack there of. I played Daoc for a few months back when it first came out, and loved that aspect of the game. My fear is that there will be a lack of meaningful World PVP in WAR, as they are going to have instanced scenarios from early on.
