Yes it is worth a try there is no harm i like it alot other ppl like it and alot of other people hate it pretty, much the same with most MMO's a love hate relationship.
lotro is sittin on my shelf collectin different species of dust. slow combat, predictable quests, runnin back and forth over the same territory... woo lemme pay every month for this please!
my answer is no it's not worth buying the game, try the trial see if you like it.

Most of your arguments against LOTRO hold true for nearly all MMO games at the moment.
The combat pacing is a debatable issue, it is slower than in some games but for some classes I've found the pacing to actually feel a bit more immersive and enjoyable. That being said LOTRO is a game I can only take in medium doses.
so if you've played other mmo's, you've played lotro. nothin new here. and it sucks cause only one person get's the ring and he owns everyone. jkin lol.. would be funny though.
well if you solo alot it's tollerable... As you have to put your character on Hide or be spammed every 2 minutes. and Turn off chat(s) in town or be spamed to death. One of the reason's I left was way to much spam! I mean whats the use of playing an MMO if you have to hide from everyone or be constantly spammed? Even game mail= spam
You must be maschocistic because there may be some spam in the game, much like there is with several other MMO games out there, but there are ways to eliminate it completely.
Shows that you haven't been online in a while, because /tell spam has nearly ceased with me, and no my level 39 Lore-Master isn't anonymous. E-mail spam can easily be reported now using a new feature that was implemented not too long ago, and I believe in my entire time playing the game I've only received ONE.
Bree spam is still an issue, but again there's a new way to easily report a spammer and place them on your ignore list.
The spam isn't nearly as bad as you'd like to describe it to others, and it's more on par with other MMO games out there that rely on gold to fund their economy.
The only person that can truthfully and completely answer that question, is YOU.
Go to lotro.com and download the client, sign up for the trial. Play the game and see how YOU like what it can offer YOU.
A lot of the nay-sayers around here like to hang around and solicit doom and gloom while they patronize other games, hoping to turn your interest towards what interests them.
