ok so i found another at newegg that has the same duo core as the cyberpower pc (3.0ghz intel duo core) running vista 2gigs ram but dual 8600gt's and i dont know if thats any good http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229009 same OS vista ultimate 64bit
I think what people are saying is that you "will" have trouble on some applications with the 64-bit Vista OS and won't get the full use of a quad core right now, therefore (atm) a dual core (e6000 and above) would be better paired with a Vista 32-bit OS. As for the graphics cards, get a 8800 GT or 9600 Nvidia card. They are great cards and don't cost much anymore.
So while the 64-Bit Vista OS paired with the quad core is best in the long run, you "might" be hating it until games catch up to that technology. In the meantime, you will have a better experience with the 32-bit Vista OS paired with a Intel Core 2 Duo.

ya but think about it this way; even if the game only makes use of 2 of the 4 proccessors, you'll still get better performance overall because of the 4 gigs of ram and dual graphics being better then 2 gigs of ram and 1 8800.Plus, you will be much better future proofed then the cyberpc one.Plus, since the newegg one has vista, you can play age of conan with directx 10, so it'll look better too.
BTW, w/e one you choose congrats, cause they are both nice.So eaither way, you win :P
Not sure if it is true or not, but a friend once told me, using the onboard sound takes away from your processing power. I have no reason to doudt him.
I still use windows XP. I see no reason to go for dx10 yet.
I use a e8400 3.6Ghz. 4Ghz helps on benchies but does almost nothing for real world games.
I use 2x1gb XMS2 DDR2-800 running 1:1 with my processor. 890mhz to 1:1 4Ghz OC
Gigabyte X38-DS4 Mobo for the PCI-E 2.0 since GPU's are going X2 more and more.
8800GT 512, running 700/1756/1950 24/7. I dont game past 1600x1200
I am unsure who told you these things, but any DC or Quad running 3.0Ghz in 1280x1024 with 9600GT or 3870 will do just fine and run AoC just fine as well. If your going for 1600x1200 go for a 8800GT. If your alittle higher go for a ATI 3870x2 or a 8800GTX.
The entire debate about the 3970x2 being iffy is because it is a hit or miss card. If the game is optimized to run and take advantage of the 3870x2, then it will meet or beat the 8800Ultra which is more expensive. If the game ISNT optimized to take advantage of the x2, then it loses alot of performance. Whether just the driver updates will stop this issue, or if it will require a combination of game patches and card drivers is still unknown.
You only need 4gb of ram for Vista if your using it. You dont need 4gb for gaming on XP. Not even EQ2 at EXTREME QUALITY uses all of my ram, and only uses 1 of my cores. Crysis at 1280x1024 with ALL settings on High, averages 31 FPS in DX9 on my rig. But i am OC'ed alittle, so that helps things. CoD4 is maxed with 4aa and runs like a champ.
For MMORPGS, especially western, it is the PROCESSOR more than the graphic card. A 8800GT, which can be had for 200 on newegg, will run AoC very very well at 1600x1200 or lower. However your issue will be a slow processor. If you can get your DC or quad to 3Ghz base, then you wont have any issues.
If you dont OC, and your doing this to game, get the flipping e8400. They will be refilling the online stores in the beginning of april at the latest, so that shouldnt be a issue. Dont get a q6600 to game unless your going to OC and your just wanting to game. Dont listen to the fools who say its future proofing, when the YorkField is the Quad to be had right now. You want a quad and to be future proof get a yorkfield.
Run xp. Get a wolfdale processor, get 2 gigs of PC2-6400, get a 8800GT and be happy. A good p35 gigabyte mobo can be had for 80 bucks and serve you well. When you build on a limited budget, you focus on your main objective only, and for the next 12 months. Go with the setup i told you to, and you will be gaming happily for a long time.
THEN:
Save money as you can. At the end of the year buy a cheap Yorkfield. Buy the next generation GPU, skipping the GeForce 9 series, and buy another 2x1gb stick of the same model you got, or a new 2x2gb stick and go to vista which should be better by then.
I would suggest a Good mobo for future upgrading. A x38 mobo is a excellent performer, and I think intel chipsets are better overall than nforce chipsets for stability. That it seems X2 graphic cards are the new FAD and only need 1 pci-e 16x lane. PCI-E 2.0 is a good thing to go for because the next gen gpu's might make a big leap and surprise us by the bandwidth consumption with the X2 getting more attention.
whats with people telling him to build his own comp?if hes asking for help on what to decide, and based on this thread, i think its safe to say he isnt proficient enough with comps to build his own. Most people arnt.anywauys, looks like the other one is gone, so grats on the cyberpc one.a little expensive, but it'll run any game out there fine, esp any mmo, and will be stable as it isnt quad core dual graphics cards on vista 64 bit.so, worse deal and slightly less performance then the newegg one, but itll be nice and stable and compatible with almost any program.so less headaches for you I guess.
oh, and I suggest spending a little bit on a real sound card.i woulsnt use the onboard one.Just buy a cheap sound card for like 30 bucks or something.
That was why i suggested the 80 dollar LGA775 gigabyte. Their realtek audio is above the normal onboard audio crap put out there. My x38-DS4 comes with ALC889A with DTS Connect and runs like a charm. My wife's friends know nothing about pc and they come in and love how it sounds.
i dont really care to much about having onboard sound but if it really takes from the cpu which i notice my windows media player does to mine
but pinkfloyd ur wrong the pc im using now was built using a barebone kit i bought 2 years ago
i do know how i just dont want to do it all again
i also have an hp which i upgraded the psu and the graphics card from onboard to a 7900gs ko which can pull off crysis at med settings i just dont feel lke upgrading the 4200 x2 proccessor some im flat out buying a new comp

Its not vista 32bit paired with a duo the one from cyber is an xp paired with the duo
and the other one from newegg that i linked two replys ago was a duro paired with 64bit

ok i found this chart which compares both the intel duo core3.0gz which is the 3rd one down on the chart!!!!!!!
http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/11/19/the_spider_weaves_its_web/page26.html
the phenom is further down and i think that game takes advantage of multiple cores!!
atleast its better than my am2 4200+ which is even further down -_-
but yea im not scared of the vista 64bit anymore the only thing thats still bugging me is this quadcore
hmmm looks like the newegg pc is gone!!!!! looks like im going with the cyberpower pc then!
