Review and comments on the game

This is my first MMORPG.  In the past I've played first person shooters and in particular play Unrealtournament including Unreal Tournament 3.  Having recently signed up to the MMORPG site I noticed the closed beta offer for Requiem: Bloodymare and decided to try it.  The intenseness of the combat is less than a FPS but that is expected.

My character is currently a level 12 character.   I have another character who is stuck at level 9 with 100% as I cannot seem to get the templars to offer a job to enable the upgrade to level 10.  I did not follow the standard path of quests but did do all the quests necessary to upgrade including the finale.  Perhaps I've missed something during that character's development that precludes the upgrade but I've looked and looked and gave up hence the second character who is now at level 12.

I am happy with the game.  The end game animation of the creature deaths could be improved but there is variation so that's not too bad.  It would be nice if there were a more general teleportation system to minimize extensive walking.  I know this is part of the realism aspect of being in an immersive world but it would help take the boredom out of the gameplay.  Perhaps an unrestrictive teleportation once every hour.  I know the teleportation to a registered location is enabled and I use it when I can but it doesn't help for random quests.  I know the plane ride serves part of that function too so I could utilize that as well.  Just a thought.

It would also be nice if one could call up a detailed map for the whole island at anytime.  Currently the minimap in the lower right is quite limited.

I would also like to have the quests indicate both the location to report and not just the individual.  A description of where they are located would be nice.  I tend to have multiple quests at any one time to minimize travel.  I once spent some time trying to figure out where the agent was that I needed to report to.

In general I am happy with the game play and feel that the additional skills as you level up are balanced.  I am a bit concerned that the max levels will be boring after a point but I have a ways to go before getting there.  I hope the developer continues to add upper level tweaks to keep the game interesting for those characters.

I am a newbie to MMORPGs but hope that my opinion helps.

I enjoy playing to date and haven't run into any other issues other than the problem with my first character which may be a problem with me.  But I successfully transitioned to level 10 with my second character so I am not certain it is me but may be a bug with the game.  I am playing on a AMD Athlon dual core 3.2 GHz 64 bit machine with Windows Vista Home Premium installed and 3.25 G Ram showing as available. I am connected to the internet via Verizon FIOS with an upgraded speed for download.
