CCP has announced that EVE Online may be in for a period of extended downtime because of a database issue that was discovered during the deployment of the latest patch.
While monitoring the progress of the patch deployment, a database issue came to light that we felt was important to address as quickly as possible. In order to ensure the best quality patch possible for our players, the estimated time for the downtime has been potentially extended as we correct that issue. Restoration of service could happen as late as tomorrow afternoon but may be as soon as this evening. Please watch the MOTD and our website for more information as it becomes available.

As expected...
Also the "Read More" link does not appear to be working.
Sucks for me if it lasts until tomorrow afternoon because i would have lost about 12hrs of skill training time... I actually had hope this time on a timely patch... but as always, my faith leads me astray from reality.
No surprise.
And yes, the "Read more" is a dead link.
Yeah, really sucks. The skill I am training now is supposed to be done around 5:30pm EST today... If it doesn't come up until tomorrow afternoon like CCP said COULD happen.. that is nearly 24 hours of no skill training...
I'm in the same boat... My skill ends at 4:30pm EST. Thought I set a long enough skill, but I guess not
One of my characters got caught last night with a 4 hour training going, daylight savings buggered my GMT calculation and I was an hour late in tryin to log and switch it...
Another character has their skill ending in an hour...same reason as the first. The third ends in 6 hours =/
Usually a patch bones me one one toon...I think this one will catch all three :P
Always fucking extended downtime with this game : Makes me wonder why they can't patch the game easily like everyother mmo i've played? Put that with the insane amount of lag in most of the high sec space and then if you're in a fleet battle which the game is designed for it lags like crazy or the server dies. Then the freak lag moments and after it's finished you find yourself in a pod in a station and you ask to get your stuff back because it wasn't your fault that you lost it and they say no..........
They really fucking need to make MORE SERVERS!!!!! It's quite clear that the one they have cant fucking handle this many people.
Hmmmm it seems to me that you all knew that there was a patch coming and yet you complain about the fact that whilst patching they stumbled across a database issue which they, of course, would like to rectify. I'm pretty sure that they always warn us to ensure that we have a long skill training so as not to waste any time... If I'm honest it's nowhere near as bad as SWG in the early days, I remember patches taking days to rectify... Just chill and go watch some pr0n or something...
1. I have played many MMOs and it is not uncommon for them to experience extended downtime. Why don't you learn some patience and accept that there are hard working people dedicating their lives to entertan you. Don't be so god damn ungrateful. Your $15.00/month does not entitle you to carte blanche complaining whenever you don't get your way.
2. About the lag. Name me one MMO that does not start to lag when large groups of people congregate? Have you ever played Second Life? It cannot have more than 100 people in an particular grid. Did you attend their Second Fest? It was the world's first virtual music festival. Once the headliners came to the stage and the grid became full, a player was lucky just to be able to receive the audio/video stream. Forget about moving.
Why don't you educate yourself as to why there is so much lag. This is the nature of our technology and the Internet. Simply put, most MMOs cannot handle large groups of people. It isn't all about the server of the company hosting the game. You must also take into consideration your own Internet connection, the route that your connection takes to connect to the server, the power of your computer AND your video card. How many people bitch about lag during large fleet battles and not even consider that maybe their computer can't render that much stuff on the screen at on time? I'm sure more than a few.
Lastly, if you've paid attention to Eve Fest 2007, CCP is trying to convert from traditional servers to super computers. This should vastly increase network connectivity but is still not a guarantee that lag will be 100% gone. What I don't get is why so many ass hats like to hang out in Jita when they know it is going to cause lag. And, as one developer mentioned, every time they are able to increase the capacity of Jita, that much more people come in and it is back to square one.
3. Eve-Online will always be a ONE SERVER game. This does NOT mean that the game is only run on one actual machine. There are many machines working in the background that make up the one server we all play on. All of us being part of one universe together is a HUGE MASSIVE appeal for playing Eve Online.
Again, appreciate the fact that you live in a modern society where nobody is actively hunting you down because of your skin color or religious beliefs. Appreciate that you are able and have the means to play a game such as Eve. Eve is not a game for complainers. Either suck up technical glitches, limitations and down time or go play WoW.
Good day.
Currently playing: No MMOs. They all suck.
Bloody well said! That post was made of pure Epic Win indeed.

blah blah blah....
All this extended downtime and no refund back and all the lag isn't acceptable and FYI I've played with over 100 people in one area on WOW and it didn't lag abit.
Wonder if soe ever met a deadline when patching everquest, likely not.
@ Vicky
If it's unplayable for you then that just sucks. There's still a huge difference between 100 in WoW and 2000+ between jumpgates and Jita IV Navy during peak hours.
I played off and on since 2005 and I realize what your saying about the lag in that system. I just got back on a trial to decide whether or not to re-sub. my accounts on a new PC and the jita lag has been non-existent, so far.
Again, if it's unplayable then it's just that. Only you can decide stay or go but as for server DT's; I've never played any MMO that doesn't have them frequently. They come in all flavours- scheduled, extended and some due to staff hitting the panic button b4 things start falling apart. It's the nature of the beast. I'd much rather wait for a stable server startup in any MMO than risk a melt-down of any kind.

Well Put
Then if it can't handle 2000 odd people round Jita then frigging fix the problem :S I mean is it so hard to make it so Jita isn't the center of everything? I mean all these fanbois can give me excuses all they want, i'm not calling you a fanboi but sooo many people keep defending it. Yet I look at it as not acceptable, this happens every time theres a patch and other mmorpgs i've played it only takes a few hours and it's backup and running fine.
I mean arn't games meant to be about playing it? With EVE everyone seems to think playing the game is about logging on and training a new skill then logging off......
Also he must of forgetten how making more than one server wouldn't make patching earier at all and they are completely unrelated.

they found a problem, they have to fix it. I played wow day 1 and it was unplayable for a week. but that's ok I still liked and played the game.
Also you must have never played an mmorpg before if you jita is only a problem in eve. it's trade hub, CCP didn't make it a trading hub, the players did, this happens in every mmo, one city becomes the point of ne return. I still remember that one city in EQ that was like 2 fps while you tried to get out of that damn place.
Also the WHOLE POINT of training skills over times is so that you can play eve without caring about leveling up, there is no point to levels in eve other than to fly a new ship. I love eve becuase I can PvP without caring that I'm getting no exp. in WoW for example I loved to PvP but I got nothing for it.
In eve every kill I get I'm training up sp without caring about it, I'm getting loot off of players, I'm slavaging thier wrecks for tech 2 slavage, I'm ransoming people for isk, I'm podding wartargets.
I don't want to grind for my next level I just want to go out and shoot people. If eve had a grind to level faster no one would PvP, because everyone would be busy leveling up. untill they were maxxed out then tey might fight. that would suck, I think every mmorpg based around PvP should used the eve system. even if it was a ssimple as only when your online to give people a reason to stay online, but the point is, eve is fun for the game play, not for the skill system, if you have to level up to have fun your not playing eve for the right reasons.
every patch the advice is given "set a long skill". all the vets do exactly that, most setting skills with a week or more to go, all the newbs dont. then they cry when the forums come back up.
as far as the whining goes about the extended downtime, would you rather they brought the server up now, only to take it down again later on to fix this database issue? take some time off, read a book or something.
internet spaceships. serious business.
Hey Vic,
Again, I understand your point and I do remember that Jita is always something that CCP tries to deal with. I don't know if they've tried, but I heard they plan(sometime) to shift the game from regular game servers to super computers. This is supposed to help but not cure the issue. In their opinion/experience, they have tried several times in the past to add servers as nodes for jita and other areas. It seems to help for a bit and then the population quickly eats up the extra server benefit as more players migrate to the area. Then the problem starts again. So, I know they try fix it.
As for the log in/off for training I'm guilty as sin. I used to double account on a single pc, so I'm guilty. They're a lot players with multiple accounts that do the same. That would be part of that issue along with 100's of things in a day that might limit plp's game time, ofcourse.
I take EVE as seeing where you character is in it's development and where want your it to be. So for me, if I'm limited in time over a couple weeks, yeah I'll do the log in/off thing. The mix between RL and game time management is one of the things I've liked about the game.
I admit, I've worn myself out playing the game a couple of times already but it's like addiction and I seem to find my way back to it eventually.
P.S.- I have to check the player toon/avatar in stations when that's released.

ahh its the curse...i just downloaded this game today...and its down..dam it..happens to every game iv ever played
This fantastic type of deployment of patches was just one of many reasons I decided to take my leave from EVE. Hang in there people the server should be up sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon
HOUSAM nice rig dude, i just checked out those specs, looks like a killer machine you have for yourself!! I'm jealous.
Funny though, they complain about EVE.. Yet WoW has had much worse patches.. I played WoW for 2 years and 6 months beta so I do know.
Also, 100 people DOES lag the hell out of WoW.. Some time ago angry players did a 'sit-in' in one area. It attracked around 1000 people, the servers went 'POEF!' .
It's when people start to compare EVE with sharded MMO's it gets funny.. they don't even know what they talk about. It's when they complain about the 'reimburse' it gets really funny.. Just count the ammount of expansions EVE released and for how many you needed to pay? Compare that with WoW.. trust me, I am happy for some days downtime with no reimburse compared to the €40 expansions Blizzard releases and 4 days reimburse I get from them.
I've only been playing EVE for about a year and a half now...
In that time i have made myself 4 accts tho cause i really enjoy this game!
I've nvr played any other MMO's but I've watched my son play many of them...
So I know what the one player was referring to about leveling up...
Talk about BORING!
The one big thing that makes me really love this game is the One World for all system...
I also know that it does cause some issues with LAG but, I still like it...
I also realize that if your System isn't up to the challenge then its going to be worse...
I've been in a few of the semi large fleet battle s also and yes it gets very laggy for me but, I can tell that it can't be that laggy for everyone or they couldn't manage to kill me ...
So obviously part of the issue is my system...
I also avoid "Jita" like a plague unless I simply have no choice...
In fact I spend most of my time in 0.0 space now...
I also got caught with my pants down on a Chars skill switch today but, I knew the risk and took it anyways...
At least I have 3 others still on track with their Skill Plans..
So in conclusion I'd just like to say, Get over it or go back to WoW or something...
Might reduce the lag a little for the rest of us!
P.S. I cannot figure out why my lines are double spaced...
At least they appear so in the PreView area...
