World of Warcraft is an extremely fast leveling game, which is probably why it has 10million players.

Maybe try Guild Wars?  You can start at the max level for PvP.

Is there an MMO called Boring Online?  Because that's what fast leveling games are, imo.

  • RecantRecant Member UncommonPosts: 1,586

WoW only seems fast because you can level up by yourself, you don't need to wait around for hours to form parties like the Everquests of this world.  EQ2s low level population is pretty much dead compared to WoW and so you're forced to endure a slow solo grind in a game that was designed with the group in mind.

It's not like there's more content either.  Oh sure, EQ2 has so many filler quests, utterly pointless and boring things.   Those book quests for example - take forever to get all the pages, you get some badly written fiction, a stupid house book, and poor experience.   Collection quests - boring - just buy em all on the broker.  And Lore and Legend quests... bore and legend quests more like.

Speed of levelling makes no difference, it's the quality of the content that matters.  And Blizzard is synonymous with quality.  EQ2 is... SOE.... mediocracy all the way.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

Wow, that was a harsh statement. WoW's quests are just as boring as EQ2's quests. Both MMOs have 'filler' quests, and both MMOs have quests that are quite interesting, so please don't bash a game until you're willing to have a balanced review.

    Blessings,

    MMO migrant.

I was being objective.  I have nothing against EQ2, played up to level 70 with my Templar at the time, when that was the level cap.

You can't honestly tell me those book quests are fun?  Many quests in EQ2 require you to kill an amount of mobs that is more than the amount spawned at any one time.  So you have to literally wait for mobs to respawn to complete it - it's ludicrous, counter-immersive, poorly designed and demonstrates a huge lack of effort on the quests designers.

Many of the quests in are not balanced for time-spent vs experience gained, there's an inconsistency of risk vs reward.

Now don't get me wrong, WoW doesn't do anything dramatically different, but it does get everything right.  It's balanced and fun, and fair.  Many quests end with scripted animations and they all seem consistent and self-referential.  EQ2's quests feel like they were written by a dozen different terminally bored assembly programmers with self-diagnosed aspergers syndrome.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

No, it just came out at the right time, no cash makers have been released since the release of WoW. You might be able to level in WoW at an ok pace but when it comes to the game its a hardcore grind. You need to be in a guild that is extremely organized for raids and PvP to get the best out of the game and that takes a very long time. You also need to build crafting skills, fishing and so on. I hate WoW btw but my GF plays and it took her well over a year just to get her max lvl PvE and PvP sets. The big problem was finding a hardcore guild since the guilds she had joined are all kids. She also had many people in game get the ban stick for sexual harassment in some of the guilds she had joined.

If you are not dedicated to many, many hours each day... then WoW is not for you. The game makes me want to rip my eyes out and flush them down the toilet!

If you want to level fast, I would say play Shadowbane. Max level in Shadowbane is 75 and you can reach it in just 2 or 3 days with a friend or three, maybe less if you have a good power leveling guild.

    Shadowbane if you want pvp,

WYD if you want a game that has probably 400+ lvls, of course, you level to scale, I hit level 25 in the 3 minutes I could stand to play it. I don't recommend it.. it's so bad that they let you legally bot to assuage the grind.

Uh, yeah...every game has quests that don't have large amounts of mobs that are spawned and sitting there waiting for u to kill them!  Thats just horribly boring if everything u have to kill is spawned in one spot just waiting for a player to come kill them then leave and turn in the quest!  There is no fun if u don't have to look around for them, or ur fighting other players for spawns, heck u can even team up with other players and talk to them, gain a new friend in the process!

If its all handed to u on a silver platter where is that fun!?

Sheesh, they really should just make an MMO where u kill 1 mob, and ur suddenly max lvl and you can just sit around complaining that there is not enough end-game content.

I have to disagree with almost everything Recant is saying. First I been playing WoW since beta and still play. I also been playing EQ2 since first day of release and still play. They are different and offer different experiences. That is why I play them both and love them both.

EQ2's population at least on my server (mistmoore) does not have a low poplulation. I find players of all levels all over this game. EQ2 is far from dead Recant's statement is simply untrue on this issue. I never have a problem finding players to group, RP, or chat with. In fact at prime playing times on my server I feel like there are more players then in WoW. Also the player base in EQ2 is a mature extremely helpful community compared to WoW. In WoW I stick to my guild for that reason.

EQ2's quests are not boring I find them more fun and interesting then WoW's. If you actually read the quests they are interesting and well written. You want to read them in EQ2 but very few players do in WoW and you really do not have to. I enjoy many of the quests in WoW but I find the ones in EQ2 more engaging.

The book quests are hard to complete and the books for your house are really cool if you like to read. That is the point they are hard to get that is what makes them special, I have a large library in my mansion that many players love to come visit and checkout. If reading is not your thing then of course having books as a house collectible will be boring. With this said EQ2 has fun housing for all levels of players and the wealth they have accumulated. Simple one rooms to large mansion.  Housing is none existant in WoW which I wish they had added. Some players do not care about housing but I love it. It connects me more to the game world.

Collections quest are fun and give really cool items. Sure you can buy needed items on the auction house if you want. I don't, I love hunting the items and making money selling the ones I do not need. You also can get some really fun pets from collection quests. The race bone collections give you an eye that you can use to turn into that race I have a bunch and can turn into a Troll, Ratonga, Froglok, etc, etc, etc. It is fun to change your appearance. Especially if you like to RP. If you do role play EQ2 is a much better choice then WoW. I do not know how many time I tried to RP in WoW and get nasty tells saying"Dude this is just a game, NOOB!" Yea I'm a noob I guess if playing a game since beta for years makes you a noob then I am one. I get noob tells all the time in WoW. I never got a single one in EQ2.

I also totally disagree with his comments on legend and lore quests. I have completed everyone in the game and am proud of that feat. I loved figuring out where to get the book to start the quest many were very hard to get. The rewards are really cool you get very interesting weapons to display on your house walls as trophies. I made a museum room in my house for other players to come visit and enjoy. I get comments all the time on my house and how I have decorated it.

One strong point of both games are mounts. Both games have fun mounts but EQ2 excels in this area. My main toon has two horse one is a ghost like spirit horse the other a beautiful armored horse. I also ride a really cool Warg and a big fat rhino. Oh yea forgot my cool flying carpet.

WoW is indeed quality I totaly agree with Recant on that one. EQ2 is also quality. Both are great games. Dispite what a few will think I play both everyday and have for years. Overall I like EQ2 more then WoW especially for all the collection stuff that Recant seems to find boring. EQ2 is not for everyone but it is a quality, engaging, fun, smart, and populated game. There is simply a lot more to do in EQ2. It also allows those who are creative to actually use it in the game in many ways. If you want a simple directed quality game then WoW is great. If you and a more creative game that allows you more freedom of choice EQ2 is it. I will say it one last time both are great games.
