Just wondering how you think my laptop will run AoC

Hi all. Just after a little help. Got a brand new laptop which is running some of the latest games really well so I am really happy about that. However the main reason I bought it was for AoC, so I really want the game to run well  on atleast High settings. The gaming laptop is a Dell XPS M1730 and the specs are as follows:

Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit

2.6GHz, 4MB cache, 800 MHz FSB ( Not sure what this means but think it's important. Also I think the 2.6GHz is doubled or something. 2.6GHz x 2 Does that make sense??? lol)

Was told before I ordered that it was 4GB ram, but I have learnt that Vista 32 can only handle 3.25GBram

Dual NVIDIA Geforce 8700 GT graphics with NVIDIA SLI tech

AGEIA PhysX mobile technology (Not really sure what this does, if anything hehe)

Intel Core 2 duo processor T7800

As you may have guessed, I'm not great with pc tech stuff. I think thats everything important. If I have missed anything, please let me know. Also I have already read some of the other threads regarding pc's and whether or not they can run AoC, but I just wanted to be sure. Im sure you would agree that a lot of games, especially MMO's can behave very randomly and different on every kind of pc. Any help would be much appreciated and I look forward to hearing back from you. Hope the post wasn't too boring haha.

Not sure how well it will run, but one piece of advice with Dell laptops, buy the 3 year extended warranty

I had one of the original Dell XPS laptops and during its 3 year life i replaced the video card, motherboard, keyboard, screen hinges and a hard drive.  In fact, I had just sent it in during the last month of the warranty for the keyboard and hinge repair and gotten it back. (Yes, despite onsite service, I had to send mine in twice, and it gone from 5-10 days each time)

I no sooner get it back, (warranty expired by one week) and the power connecter developed a short which would shut the computer down if the power cord was moved the slightest.  This went on for 2 or 3 weeks while I contemplated my options, when one of the sudden power outages murdered the hard drive (for a 2nd time).

So when it ran, it ran great, but w/o the warranty I would have been sitting on an expensive doorstop after about a year of use. (when the video card blew out)

My next computer will be one of the new Gateway FX boxes, with the 3 year warranty of course

This laptop surpasses the recommended system requirements for Age of Conan. It should run it very well.

Oh, man that sucks. Very interesting read but now I'm already worried about my laptop and how long it will last!!! hehe. These things are friggen expensive. Plus I think I have only got a 2 year service repair warranty. I'll have to double check that. Thanks for the reply. At the moment, if the game is released in a good/quality state, I think it should run fine. At least I'm hoping. It's all so random and confusing. EQ2 runs pretty much flawlessly on max settings, whereas VG still runs like junk just on high settings. Have yet to try any other  MMO's on my new machine so who knows. As long as AoC is done right on release, should be fine

heh if you can run EQ2 on max...AoC will be a breeze!

Well thats what I'd like to think but it's all so random Actually I'll be honest, I was exaggerating. It runs EQ2 perfectly on 'VERY HIGH' settings. But I dont think it's a huge difference. Sorry about that. Thanks for replies!!!

You'll run it fine, maybe not max settings, but I don't think you'll be too upset.

 

As far as the other poster.  Do NOT hook your rig up to power strip or wall outlet.  SURGE PROTECTOR.

NEVER try to run your pc with faulty wiring.  You will cause exactly what that poster described, shorts and quite possibly the destruction of several pieces of hardware within.  It is much smarter to simply replace the power cord and power supply than to have to replace half of the items inside.  Most of the problems, and this comes from experience, are because of the user.  If you don't know much about computers, don't take chances.

Thanks heaps for the information DAS1337. Very good to know, Im a little less worried about it now.   Well I'll just be happy if it run well, and if it runs well on high settings, well that's just a bonus. Thanks again!
