Because it's Warhammer, or because it's an MMORPG by the devs that made DAoC?

I don't care anything really about the Warhammer miniature game. I admit I did like Warhammer 40K RTS game. That was a lot of fun, and also had good cut scenes.

But honestly, if this game had nothing to do with the Warhammer franchise, but was a new RvR by the DAoC devs, I'd still be waiting on it.

I suspect that's mostly the case on this forum, since it's an MMORPG forum, and perhaps a lot of the  Warhammer fans that play the table top game will just pick up the game to give it a go once it's on the shelves.

I never paid that much attention to the Warhammer IP. Never played DAoC. So, I guess my answer is  .  . . none of the above,

I am 50/50 on the subject.

I look forward to the game because the Warhammer IP is perfect for an MMO setting and has endless possibilities for expansions, as well as a wide selection of races and classes to incorporate into the game in the future.

I also look forward to the game because Mythic has a good crew, and I trust them to create a good game. Dark Age of Camelot is a classic, and one of my first MMORPGs. If Mythic can deliver an experience similar to old school DAoC RvR, Warhammer will have no problem becoming the next big thing.

In my opinion, 60% of the reason its hyped so much is the fact that its warhammer...

Maybe 20% because its by the creators of DAoC.

10% because it looks so good.

10% because there's nothing else better coming out there (Other than a few upcoming MMOs)

I personally am waiting for warhammer, I hope its good.

The only reason I still glance occasionnally at this title, it is because it is Warhammer.

These devs are wackos and I won't be playing their game unless they change CORE aspect to make sure someone can be happy in PvE.  But they won't.  They want everyone with a focus to RvR.  They can't change my focus in games now...

I don't care if 5% of their game is geared toward PvE...it must be FREE from RvR(and raiding) and then I will support it.  Without such a freedom, I won't put on shackles willingly.

Good topic OP :) I was never interested in the miniature Warhammer game either. I have only played a few of the pc games which I really enjoyed. I really love the theme of Warhammer. Im not heaps interested in buying WAR online when it arrives but im definately thinking it's going to be good and popular because it's from the creators of DaoC. Being WAR has a tiny bit to do with my interest but not much. I am sure for the yound ones it's a whole different story and being a Warhammer game is the ONLY reason they are geting it. It's always good to be careful though. We have seen many games released that were supposed to be awesome beacuse of their theme, but were not so great in the end. No MMO's that I am aware of but games such as Fallout: Brotherhood of steel on the PS2, and also Warhammer: Firewarrior on the PS2. Just my thoughts.

I don't care for War Hammer lore and miniature personally. Never played with it. I follow this game because i love RvR, and Mythic have shown in the past that they are the best at making a great RvR experience. Daoc was my favorite MMO to date, and for me, War Hammer could be called "Daoc 2". It certainly feels like it game play wise. (Just won't with the art work)

I tried to get into the tabletop world before but failed. I really loved the lore and atmosphere of Warhammer. When I first heard about the game I didn't care at all because I thought it would just be "one of theese games". But when I saw Paul introduce the game in his special way I started laughing uncontrolable and that made me do some research about the game. Then I realized it's true potencial with what they were aiming for. An easily accessable PVP (oops! RVR) game. It's gonna be great!

    { Mod Edit }

I'm looking forward to this game because it's from the same people who made DAOC, my first MMO and still in many ways my favorite.  RvR combat was epic in a sense that I've never seen matched in any other MMO.

I will be honest and say that prior to learning about the development of WAR I had never heard of Warhammer, so I was definitely drawn to it because of Mythic. I played DAoC for quite a while and enjoyed it a lot. I took a break to play WoW and now I am really itchin' for some RvR!

Yeah 50/50 for me too, the Warhammer lore is so damn enormous and badass. Plus the devs of DAoC are incredible to say the least.

I don't find the Warhammer IP that interesting, but I will be trying it since Mythic is making it. I started DAoC in 2002 and played it for 3 years straight. I just resubbed to DAoC this past week, because no company has made a better game since then. It also says a lot about a company when they will show their subscriber numbers without shame. Mythic is also very open about things and communicates with their community every week.

MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW

    Currently Playing: WAR
Preferred Playstyle: Roleplay/adventurous, in a sandbox game.

Sure it has daocs rvr, but the actual gameplay is nothing like daoc. In Warhammer you have  cast bar.. which means there is no dex that effects your spells like daoc... which is really really stupid. I think this is a let down for all the people who hoped it would be like daoc. I couldnt stand rvr when i didnt have a good 8 man to run with. might be because i started on mordred though..

Besides everyone knows the best part about daoc was bombing ml raids on mordred..

Add to that that WAR only has 2 realms, lots of instanced PvP, very little mass CC compared to Daoc and people should realize it's nothing like Daoc really.

Neither. I didn't play DAOC and never was interested in Warhammer table top stuff. What attracted me to the game was the idea of meaningful OPEN WORLD pvp (RVR in other words) The thing is, I had never heard of RvR before reading about WAR.

What keeps me here is he Warhammer IP that I learned about when I read up on the game, and of course my original wish for pvp that effects the open world (like city siege and taking territory/resources)

Mostly because it's Dark Age of Camelot.

Don't get me wrong, I am (or rather was) a big Warhammer fan, but it's my hope that this game will play similar to DAoC that draws me in. The Warhammer setting is just a very nice bonus.

And with "playing similar to DAoC" I mean have fun PvP as an endgame, rather than a tiered gear-grind.

I played DAOC for so short a period, that essentially I could say I never played it.  I never played Warhammer pen and paper game either.  However, what you said is exactly the reason I will be trying this game.

It has to have meaningful PvP where you actually feel like you have a real purpose, can accomplish meaningful goals, and have territory that you can take and hold.  If they don't have those things, and do it well, then they will get my money for the box, my money for the first month's play, then never get another dime from me again.

If I play WAR it won't be because Mythic developed it.  Considering the DEVs have demonstrated the ability to totally ruin a MMO.  Also considering they now fall under EA It has two big whammies going against it not for it.

I'd say add a third option.  Play it because its a new MMO.

Although I have being paying attention to dev interviews and it sounds like they have learned from thier mistakes.

DAoC all the way. I may not have played it much, three or four month total, but it was a solid game for its time and Mythic has that experience to help Warhammer.

What game have the Devs ruined? What is wrong with EA?

I am waiting on war because of it being developed by Mythic. DAOC is by far the best mmorpg out now in terms of pve and pvp aka rvr. I would still be playing it now but I have played it for many years and look forward to something new to play.

  • sirslayerrsirslayerr Member Posts: 128

I looked at it ages ago due to it being a new MMO, and I usually start looking for a new one once I get bored with my current. At the time, it was WoW and I wanted something different. After some research, I found out it was going to be an RvR game, so that gave it two marks up. I remembered how much my friends liked DAoC, so there's three. Lastly, after I started reading the Warhammer lore, it really did interest me.

  • MalakaiMalakai Member Posts: 147

Part of it is because Mythic is developing the game but most of my interest is because of the Warhammer setting.  Keep in mind also that Warhammer is more then a miniature game.  They also have a good pen and paper roleplaying game.  But anyways back on topic.

I like the Warhammer setting because it is a much darker fantasy setting.  Everything is not all bright and campy.  The forces of good are fighting for there lives and are in many cases underdogs.  Warhammer is very dark and grim at times.  That is the big draw for me.

To be honest I was interested in Warhammer online back when Climax entertainment was working on it.  It also makes me feel good to know that Mythic knows how to make a good and stable mmorpg, where I was hoping that Climax would do alright.  I can't wait for this game to come out this year.
