I just thought I'd post this in a seperate topic, since the other one just became a mess. Sci-fi did, in fact, renew Stargate Atlantis for a fifth season late last year. It won a people's choice award, and apparently has quite a good viewership, so it won't be going away just yet.
Here's the story.
I know this is a bit old, but it's worth reiterating.

I cant wait till the 3rd series comes on television, Stargate Universe. The guys at mgm said this show will reveal where the 9th chevron on the stargate will take the new SG team to. They also said its going to take them to a place thats very interesting. The show will not be in the distant future but in the present like SG1 and Atlantis.
I think its going to be another demension. What you guys think?
It should take somewhere in the near Future i say, specialy since the SG1 Team got the Asgard Tech. I would like to see some realy fancy Ships and weapons with Ubar Halo like Combat suits and so on :P.
I think they will be using more advanced tech in the 3rd show which leads me to think that the suit the SG soldier was wearing in the premier trailer for the game is actualy going to be in the 3rd show also. I am not sure though. And in the game, its prolly more of a prototype since the game is based off of season 8-10.
WOOT!!!!
I hope Atlantis has another 4 or 5 years ahead of it. It's become my favorite show on Television!!! I think its much better than the old SG1. It wasn't that good at first, but it's gotten a LOT better.
Ive been watching SG-1 since season 4 and have seen most of the three season. Becuase of this imo SG-1 is way better. In fact after SG-1 ended my family just kinda stoped watching SG(my parents have been there since it was on HBO) i really only liked the first 2 season of Atlantis and 3 was egh didnt even watch 4.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

characters in SG1 was lame? The funniest character has always been Jack O'Niell. Shepard and Mitchells characters were pretty much designed after Jack. Atlantis ruined Sam Carters charcters by putting her in a position where she doesnt use her real skills like she used to in SG-1, which was figuring all the science stuff up. Teyla is pretty much the female version of Tea'lc. Ronin is too bland and dumb, hes more like a seat filler. Rodney is ok. The only characters I do like are Tod the Wraith and Weir who is dead now. Even though they are bringing her back but just as an Asuran with her face.
But a lot of these differences may stem from the fact that I just never got into SG-1 and it took their second try at Atlantis before I felt the series was good enough to watch... so that's where I started.
Interested to see about this "third" series.
YOu do realise that sci-fi channel could honestly not care less what the viewers want. they proved that when they screwed the winner of Who Wants to be a Superhero out of his movie. Then when enough people complained about that, they just decided that they wouldn't do anymore seasons after the second one. Sci-fi has a few good shows, but most of what they show are movies to bad to even be called B-grade.
QFT.
I believe Sci-Fi really got off track with the wrestling show.
Anyway, I've grown to like SGA since the cancellation of SG-1. They did a really good job on the end of the last season too. It's good to hear they're gonna be back for another round.
..............
I started watching Stargate Atlantis thiis year and more recently in the last 2 months. Now I'm trying to catch up on Stargate SG1 to fill myself in about the mythology. As for Jack and his jokes, well they aren't really that funny, little to simple for my taste.
I agree, SG Atlantis characters do have more depth. When I first started watching Atlantis I thought Mckay was annoying, with his huge ego, but now I'm finding him much more interesting to watch. David Hewlett has really put a lot of personality into the character.
I mostly want to play Stargate Worlds because I've been able to watch the back story on my sofa in HD (rather than sitting at a computer screen reading about it forever) and get caught up in it. Now that I am getting more familiar with the enviroment it makes this game much more interesting to play.
