If We can Change Anime to MMO(Part I)

i'd like to post this here its useful thread we can talk about it too much ::: lets start

The anime always reminds MMO developers considering to make the MMO of same heady storylines, because of its huge number of fans. Nothing can prevent anime fans who have great enthusiasm enojoying their favorite anime. There is never a gap between MMOs and animes, and many fans are eager to play in the world which created by kinds of animes. We saw the buoyant spirits of this from our MMOsite Forum. Now let's talk about which anime you would like to change it to MMO.

Example: Naruto

That stands to reason, the Naruto makes more and more young people to be positive and start their own journey to achieve ultimate goal in real life. It's a real pity if there's not a Naruto Online in this world. Ninjas in Naruto need to achieve 4 levels of quests. The life of a MMORPG is none other than quest system, isn't it? You should win honors and stick your way to protect your village. Of course, you can't become Hokage easily in game. Every things about Narutos Online seems to be realized as naturally as a ditch is formed when water flows along. Let's keep an eye on it!

Screenshot from "Next-Gen" game

The series begins with Naruto wanting to pass his exams to become a gennin level ninja, but failed because he is never studying or practising, but playing practical jokes to gain attention from others. So with a last effort he was told that if he steals a scroll, and learns forbidden techniques then he would become a gennin. However the person who told Naruto to steal the scroll was in fact after it himself and set up Naruto. Luckily Naruto's teacher came to the rescue which set Naruto straight. His teacher was about to be killed then Naruto ended up saving the day using the one forbidden technique he had learned.

Naruto, for the first time in his life as a result of this was acknowledged by his teacher Iruka, and was awarded the forehead plate of the hidden leaf village. Now being a Gennin, Naruto began his journey to achieve his ultimate goal, become Hokage

Dragonball Online

On Feb. 14th, 2008 (Seoul local time), Bandai Korea and CJ Internet officially announced the Dragon Ball Online project at a press conference held at Seoul Plaza Hotel. DragonBall Online is expected to be launched in Korea before the end of 2008 at the latest and is set for 2009 launch in Japan. The players gave the new play a mixed reception, ie one of criticism and praise. Some of them said that the very person who creat Dragon Ball Online is not the main directer of this mmo. It means you may lose something with original anime in DBZ Online. Anyway, we can try it and it's a good start, isn't it?

At the press conference, a latest DragonBall Online CG Trailer and a lot of DragonBall Online related information were made public. Staying true to DragonBall Z, DragonBall Online has been enhanced a lot in terms of story. In the game, players can join PvP at the World Martial Arts Tournament and take on quests with the goal of collecting dragon balls. Closely related to the original work, DragonBall Online will make players feel immersed and present.

Bleach

Bleach follows the lives of Ichigo Kurosaki, who is a high school student with the ability to see ghosts, and a shinigami (Soul Reaper or, literally, "death god") named Rukia Kuchiki, who crosses paths with Ichigo while hunting an evil spirit known as a hollow. Rukia is wounded during the ensuing confrontation with the spirit and is left with no choice but to transfer her powers into Ichigo.

Bleach
Bleach
Thus the adventures of Ichigo and Rukia begin. Together they search for hollows and perform soul burials on wayward souls, cleansing the spirits and sending them to Soul Society. The early parts of the story focus mainly on the characters and their pasts, rather than the actual occupation of the shinigami. As events unfold, the story begins to delve deeper into the world of these gods of death on the "other side" called Soul Society.

A good anime MMORPG would need to be an action RPG, that is to say, an MORPG that plays a bit more like an action game.  Animes tend to be extremely action-centric, and the stoic nature of many MMO playstyles just simply wouldn't mesh with something like, say, Naruto.

    Naruto

Speaking of the little ninja-based series, I have a number of ideas as to how this series could work as an MMORPG.  I can easily picture the MMO starting in ninja training, in which your character learns the three basic ninja techniques as well as using basic attacks, throwing kunai, and even practicing your own personal technique (a very simple, fairly weak version of it anyway).  After graduation, you're able to take missions from various sources (although group missions, particularly for three-man groups or larger, would grant more experience then the simple single-person missions).  You'd slowly improve your ninja skills, gaining new techniques and becoming better at using your skills at the right times.

All that said, I would expect the Chunin Exams to be fairly rare.  They would be lengthy, difficult, and more then just a simple class advance.  There would be various forms of tests, written exams, team exams in which trios would have to work together against other trios over a span of a few days, and of course the one-on-one fights.  At the end of the exams, a few moderators would be tasked with choosing those that would become Chunin, and that person (or people) would not be based simply on power level.  If a player simply charges in and attacks mindlessly, then they could be passed over even if they were to win.

This class advancement thing wouldn't be simply based upon levels, but on an accumulation of feats.  A player could reach a high level without even becoming a Chunin, and also, a player at a relatively low level could become an Anbu or even Hokage-level, based upon their level of actual gameplaying skill.

    Dragonball Online

It appears to me, from the pictures posted here and those others that I've seen, that Dragonball Online may suffer from the same stoicism that I mentioned up top.  It's a series like this practically requires the ability to at least strife quickly from side to side, and I am very, very worried that the fighting style in this game may be made up of "stand still and trade punches until one person's HP is gone" combat.  I really hope that this is not the case.

    Bleach

Bleach has an interesting setting and gameplay could be fun.  But the show itself has a number of large flaws in it that could cripple gameplay.  Not the least of which is that, in the actual show, the person with the most power, without fail, always seems to win.  Alot of people don't have a problem with this, but I personally think that it makes gameplay a little dull if higher-level players will always beat lower level players simply because they are of a higher level.

So, to fix this, I suggest a fluxing power meter.  A player's power level would rise and fall depending on a number of factors, ranging from how much damage they've taken, to how much stronger their opponent is then them, how much damage they've taken, and even fluxing mid-attack (weaker on the wind-up, and stronger as the attack strikes).  Coupled with a more skill-based fighting system, it could easily be an amazing gameplay experience.

The various giant mecha anime would, naturally, make wonderful MMORPGs.  I don't really have anything to add to that, though, even though I think that Eureka Seven may be worth looking into for an anime-based MMO world.

Anime is strictly a fad and will soon die out.  Kind of bad for all those anime MMO's already out there, but serves them right over saturating the market with such games.   I doubt you will see any US companies getting involved in the amime marketplace, they know how short lived fads are.  At least any company that wants to be around in a few years.

anime ....is a fad? dead? ...i dont think so dude...its only just started coming into north america and become more popular mainstream wise*....im afraid your gonna have to put up with lil kids running around pretending to be naruto for quite some time...

ah, more ignorant crap from Ciredric..I mean, ozmodan.

Anime has been around for many, many years now, and it's influence on games is undeniable. Only companies who wants to be around for a few years put effort in anime? That's laughable, as I'm pretty sure Ubisoft will be around longer then you will.

Anime in the US is doing great, an anime MMO's are doing quite good as well. So yeah, anime is here to stay. Sorry Ozmodan.

85% of anime is pure crap. 10% of anime is decent or so bad that it's hilarious. 5% of anime is extremely good.

There are few shounen anime that fit into the top 15% (shounen anime are made for teen boys ex: DBZ, Gundam, Naruto) but they are by far the most popular so they would make the most successful games.

So while people like me only care for that top 5%, the thousands of teen boys are going to want a classic shounen anime so something like Naruto will be hugely popular. (Just not with people like me)

#1 Anime is it's own self producting Monster. It's a Larger Market produce cheaper then cartons and comics we can make following a simple formula.

Succesfull Mangas ( Black and White comics) are turn into Anime series.

Succesfull Animes that can pass under what's Acceptable in the Normal Media are exported.

So it's not just a Fad. The little we see are the edges of a realy Big Market and we only get what's passable. It will grow and shrink whit time, but it is here to stay.

#2 The Macross VS Robotech Lawsuit would prevent the development of en MMO, so forget about it. I hope Robotech Finaly losses, I'd like to be able to watch Macross Frontier Legaly... Or any other Macross show for that matter.

    Keep it Simple

I would probably play a Bleach MMO but it saddens me that if they make one they will mess it up. It's 100% gurantee. Every single video game ever based on an anime has sucked horribly because the people who made it had no idea what the hell they were doing.

The translations are generally so bad that a first grader with a Japanese dictionary could have done a better job. Also, the abilities of the characters in game never quite match up with those of the characters in the anime, for no apparent reason.

So I probably won't play any anime-based MMO, because I know it'll get messed up. Maybe someday there will be hope.

Animes like Naruto and One Piece could work really well into MMOs due to their nature, devs wouldn't need to tweak the story much in order to make those MMOs, im just trying to figure, for example, how would bleach explain the mobs grind, or the amazing quantity of shinigamis appearing out of nowhere, while Naruto world is a factory of Ninjas, where clans are already in, and where you can develope unique habilities, and that alone seems really cool, now, add possible national wars in a RvR system and there you have a MMO.

One piece would also be cool due to the bounty systems within the series, and the fact that everybody can get one of those fruits that give you a random hability, now that would be hard to do, but hella cool. Just a game where you advance your bounty quantity instead of advancing levels, and  where you can loose your status easily by being caught by the marines with the colaboration of other players, building your boat so you can have your clan traveling, now that would be great.

Dragon ball, well, it might work properly, let's hope they work well since Bandai controls One piece also, and I would like them to keep going on.

Give me Ghost in the Shell Online with art direction from Production IG, engine code from Blizzard, design from the Square Enix team that did FFXI mixed with the Deus Ex dev team.

Make it one logon server with shards or some way to allow all players forever to play together.  Hardcore rules, full PVP with consequences, sandbox ish with player generated content, and extremely in depth robotic engineering.

This would make me a happy person.

this would be an interesting concept but like many others have stated its a fad, well at least in someways.  I mean as new ones become available sure you would always have a fan base but ppl move on to the next big thing.

For instance lets take DBZ , that technically has been on US soil or a long time since ealry to mid 90's i remember waking up early to watch it on fox saturdays 530-630 am and they stopped right at the end of frieza saga, even then anime was said it wont last, though now its become very mainstream. Sadly the franchise is just now beginning to see a live action and a possible MMO, in some ways they waited to long and should have done it while dbz was hot or part of the marketing ploy as it was growing to its success here.

Now robotech / macross has a huge following as does gundham which has been airing since 79 originally so it covers alot of mech lovers thru the last 20 yrs, these i think would be rather successful for years to come. As we step closer to this in realistic senses.

Of the new ones like One piece, that would make an interesting one no doubt, and im sure some would even add Avatar to that.

My suggestion would be NINJA SCROLL,  I know it sounds a bit crazy but it could definitely work including bringing raids and seiges as well as possible RvR  [long shot on RvR but still]. u can have freelance side[jubei], a government side [ could serve as NPC faction] and the Devils of Kimone and the Shogun of the Dark [chaos] and u could choose from those since Ninja scroll is a tale of deciet and intrigue. Territory control, poisoning your enemys water supply, etc. just some thoughts.

as i was finished w/ this part the next crazy thought actually crossed my mind and this is where the reply was suppose to end .. but then the thought made sense

I know i ll be flamed for this but the one im so surprised especially given the success over the years that hasnt been made into one is Poke'mon and is ideal to be able to be made into a sandbox MMO style game. I mean the whole idea is ot catch them all , and the idea of an MMO is to never allow u to truly finish a game and always have something to play for even after u finish the main story behind the game. And they continually add new pokemon regularly. Sounds like a win win situation to me plus Nintendo definitely has the money to back such a huge development. Pokemon pretty much held down the handheld market for nintendo for yrs. And i ll be flamed for this comment as well , of any ANIME available today,  Pokemon would garner the biggest return on an investment given the amount of time its been in the industry as well as its popularity.

Now dont get me wrong im not a fanboi of nintendo or pokemon but as far as discussion goes i thought it to be an entertaining thought.

I assure you, you havent seen 85% of anime, because less then 5% of it has made it to North america, and if you arent an anime fan you dont watch anime with subtitles so you know as much about anime as those ignorant clowns who trash all korean mmos.

Anyway to the OP, Pokemon and Digimon should make that list, they have more depth then Bleach. While i love bleach i dont see it translating into a good MMO, Naruto would make a great MMO however.

I think Anime will be around for a long time, Hell my son & I seem to spend a small fortune on it.

Anime worlds could make great MMOs & most already have very stylish artwork.

Excluding the obvious ones, 'Full Metal Alchemist', 'Ghost in the Shell' & 'Kurau' could be fun as they don't feature stories where only the central characters have special powers.

One of my favourite Anime's was 'Angelic Layer' which is sort of tournament based already, so that might be good for PvP but is probably more suited to a console game.

'Trinity Blood' might be good for 'Realm vs Realm' since it was SciFi based on 'Augmented Humans' vs 'NanoTech Vampires'. 'Witchhunter Robin' could be good for similar reasons as it is a Sci-Fi Witches vs Inquisition.

'Gunslinger Girl' Anime might be fun, if a little odd since everyone would be RPing girl assassins.

There are so just so many great titles, I hope a good one gets made into an MMO soon.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
