i have loosely followed the game and funcom is a good company...i hope this does well for them but i never had that "omg" feeling from this game. what do you fans think of it so far? will it have enough new features to break free from the world of warcraft clone world we are in? on a scale from 1 to 10 with wow at 1 and eve at 10 how much freedom will it have?

Well, for me,
-VE and PVP levels are separate (which means they can balance one without hurting the other,
-New take on combat
-Actually launching with Player Cities implemented
-Promise of player housing after launch (no date yet, but it is in the plans)
-Mounted combat
Those are a few reasons I'm interested. I will admit I am less than happy with their not being RP PvE servers at launch (yet there are RP PvP server for people who want that experience) and I personally feel more could have been done with the Crafting system. That said, the Crafting system could very well grow after launch into something larger, especially with player demand.

What you are describing is basicly the same thing EVERY MMO coming soon(tm) will be doing. The classic clone of EQ1 (which WoW was a refined version of). With a few things changed slightly to appear "new".
You aren't going to see much freedom until somebody "clones" Ultima Online... 1997-Early 1998 version.
That's just my opinion... obviously.
Now ive played everquest, ive played WOW, and Ive played StarWars back when it was still worth playing. I loved having a sword and cutting down people with everquest, killing stormtroopers, and fighting orcs with my felguard, but this game will top it all. you can swing a sword... in real time... even on a horse! this is new and will be very great for an mmo in my picture. you can shoot an arrow in first person. decapitation looks fun, you can sneak around and stab, the environment actually plays a part in this game. these are features ive never seen in many, no all mmos ive ever played. Siege combat is looking well and the player city vulnerability timeslots make it so that having a player city will not make you want to give it up. mainly what i will like about this game is the first person feel and i think this will be a great game. ive got my copy preordered alrdy
PS beta plz:)
thanks for the reply. if i get in the open beta i will give it a fair chance. my guild is bored with lotro.

Conan is offering some new stuff, and some that isnt new but has a nice new take on it. Sometimes i fear it is offering more then it will actually have but we shall have to see if that happens.
Now will it be a totally different game then WoW, no, im sorry to say that i dont think it will. They have a new and way of fighting that sounds interesting but from what i have heard leveling will be about as fast as WoW (which i sick), DP will not be much if any and crafting is less then great. Crafting could be good but it seems very basic.
I have seen you on the SWG Vets page so i assume you are desperately hoping that someone will make another open world skill based game, this is not it.
I am hoping for a game that is more reminisent of the early days of EQ, again this isnt it.
If it delivers what it has said it would AOC should be a nice game and a suttle change from the WoW clones.
I'll rank it as a 4 for freedom. I don't think it will be all that different from the other well-known fantasy MMOs(minus the elves and such). But I think the mounted combat, player-cities, sieges, hack-and-slash combat earn it a few points up on WoW and the medium.
I think it's a step in the right direction, away from the common grind-mess. It's setting off on a different path, but its path is still travelling parallel to WoW's.
I don't remember the specifics, but Athelan described it that if someone is level 60/0 (PvE/PvP), someone level 50/20 would probably have the advantage. While someone 60/20 would be beaten easily by someone 80/20. They kind of add on to each other, but PvP levels don't affect PvE gameplay.
That being said, there is PvP and PvE stats on gear, which will be balanced separately.
