It's not the fantasy genre, it's the boring linear level mechanics and the treadmill where the last 20 levels are just like the middle 20 levels, only they take tons, tons longer. If we introduce a non-level non-class based system with more organic mechanics and a world where we go out an adventure in instead of grind, then it won't matter what genre it is, even typical fantasy.
Thats pretty much how I feel. I'm not burnt out on the fantasy genre (I actually prefer it) its every thing else that I'm sick of. Class/level based, linear gameplay, static game world...
Here's a suggestion...maybe MMO's arent your cup of tea?? I've been playing them since U.O and Asheron's Call days and I still enjoy myself. Now granted, every now and then I NEED to take a LONG break from them just because they're to addicting and become boring/frustrating after a while.. But I will always love MMO's..
Now the things u said about EQ1 makes me think MMO's just arent meant for you. In my opinion EQ1 was the greatest MMO ever created. Most people who experienced the wonders of EQ1 in it's glory days wouldn't ever say how boring and crappy the game is.. Those that do are obviously not true fans of MMO's.. These people such as yourself should stick to FPS games.. Mixing FPS and MMO together is what I'm turned off with some of the MMO's out now.. It seems the devs wanna please many FPS battlenet whiners by trying to evolve traditional MMO's to play more and more liike FPS games to give it that action packed FPS style while maintaining the MMO fantasy themes.. Personally, it doesnt work to well.
So my suggestion would be to stick with the genre of games u enjoy most and stop playing MMO's. It's just not meant for people with low intellect.

How do you WAIT for an MMO?
play other MMO while waiting
Duh, not all people likes the same kind of games and just cause someone doesn't like a genre don't mean it sux.
I do agree that a bit too many games copy EQ but there are games that don't like Eve online...
My theory is that your are a troll and just want a long worthless discussion about taste. And if you don't like MMOs you are on the wrong forum.
