The darkfall devs can learn something by watching this vid and see how to properly do lighting since there's looks god aweful in every screenshot.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noKX_BowPeo
It is amazing how people are basing how good this game will be based onthe Graphics when the Most successfull MMO to date WoW has some of the Crappiest graphics i have seen? There is nothing Wrong with the Graphics in Darkfall these HateBoys as i call em (i know not ver original lol) are just trying to find something else to try and crap on about to amuse themselves. DarkFall will be a hit when and if it releases and this is what is really getting these HateBoys nickers in a twist cause they dont want to be Proven Wrong.
Honestly, Darkfall's "MMORPG" graphical level is at around 2005 - 2006. Which is perfectly fine. However, I'm going to also keep things in perspective here. For me to say that Darkfall is going to be the best MMORPG gameplay wise is very premature and unwise. For all we know Darkfall may simply suck. It could be a borest or it may even be so bug ridden that any of it's more important, hyped features we want may turn out to not work properly or be counter productive to the rest of the game. We just simply don't know at this point. Having said that I also must say that i see the point people are making when they say that people shouldn't put some much faith and hope into Darkfall. On the flipside though I must say that Darkfall sounds like the MMORPG I want to play and many more people want to play. Why do people have to come in here and try to beat people down for wanting this game? We already know the long development time. I remember reading about it when this game was first announced. I remember the original logo for Darkfall, the original crappy interface 'placer' graphics they use to use. That seems like an age ago because it has been an age ago. However, Darkfall is the only game currently that has a budget and is offering the features I want to see an MMORPG. That is true for many people. Everyone who swings on the whole topic of Darkfall is swinging at air at this point. There is simply nothing there for any side to really hit at. MMORPGs are relatively young and maybe Darkfall is the first of many that has a long development cycle like this due to initial funding levels or sheer design level and scale If you think it'll fail... fine that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. If you tihnk it'll be the greatest game of all time... well that is your hope and faith for the game. Remember though. I myself prefer to believe in the project because if it succeeds it only strengthens the MMORPG and shows investors/publishers that taking a risk can pay off. Anyone who is a true fan of MMORPGs should want Darkfall to be successful.
I'm sorry but your graphical assessment of Darkfall's level equaling something from 05 or 06 is just not right. Show me any MMOG that has released in 2007, forget 05 or 06, with graphics that are on par with the latest images we have seen.
I think I've also heard complaints about WoW's graphics; easy to see how that turned out. Graphics over gameplay never will work: you can ask Brad McQuaid about that or even John Smedly and the EQ2 gang .
If it run smooth and has good gameplay, nobody will care.
While i do agree with your statement i will never understand how WoW has OK graphics and terrible gameplay yet is so freaking popular.
You are right, graphics dont make the game (though i like good graphics). I would play a game with the feel of original EQ or DAOC right now with those same graphics and have no problem with it.
What is really sad is die hard PVPers have been wanting a game made for them for so long that they are willing to except Darkfall graphics (which i really think are bad).
Im by no means a die hard PVP but i really think you guys should have gotten an upgrade to Shadowbane long before now. And i will never understand people coming on and blasting Darkfall who have no intention of playing a hardcore pvp game. I dont know if it will ever release or not but i hope that it does. We need more games out that dont follow the CRAP WoW ,linear, quest driven, no challenge blueprint.

ok go into detail why you think there bad
there not top of the line there meant to be able to hold 100 vs 100 battles with out lag so there using some tricks to make it look good but still not be that good if graphics meant anything alot of games wouldnt be falling atm like gods and heroes was pretty good gfx wise but wait it got cancelled graphics dont make the game
please know it all tell us what is wrong with the gfx that make them bad with out being an jerk about it.

I understand completely why a lot of ppl think that Darkfall graphics and WoW graphics are bad, both have the same reason(the same is true for WAR and a lot think that WAR graphics are not good), both try to use as less polygons per avatar as possible. For Darkfall it is quite simple why they chose this, they want mass battles with hundreds of players. And for it you have to reduce the overall polygon count to make it playable. WoW did it, to be playable with almost every computer available, and is one of the reasons of the success of WoW.. only hardcore gamers will upgrade their computer with any interesting game coming out. The casual gamer willl play those games, which run properly with their computers.
But beside this point, the low polygon count of avatars, both game have good art style, and in the case of WoW(we cant discuss about this for DF, because we dont know enough) it is very detailed about the environment, and the world as a whole fit perfectly together and is believable. This is much more important than technically high graphic standards(high polygon characters and top effects like dynamic lighting, shadow and so on). As a counterpart to this, look at AoC, the graphic is technically perfect, but if you look at the environment and the character it seems that they fit not together(at least i think it sometimes).
On the other side, as the OP said, graphic is not everything, the gameplay is much more important in the long run, but nevertheless a game should have at least decent graphics for the time it is released. And in my mind the DF graphic is at least decent for 2008. So the last thing i worry about Darkfall are the graphics, i am much more worried about other things, is it polished enough, without much bugs, without a lot of lag, especially because of the FPSish character of DF, will they have all announced features, and will they work as intended. All those questions are much more important for me, and for the success of Darkfall when/if it release. But all those questions will only be answered, when we can play the game in the beta, and it release finally.
But for me personally is another point the most important, that as i tried to describe before the concept of a dynamic mmorpg will advance with DF, and maybe other developers in the future pick up this concept and even more advance it. I am bored from the EQ style gameplay and concept. And to boost this, the best is to have another successful representative, where other can build up from a concept standpoint, but also a business standpoint.. it will easier to find investors and publisher, if another successful game of those kind exist. So i really hope that DF will release as polished, as feature complete and as bugless as possible, with as good graphics and gameplay as possible. I hope it for DF, for the dynamic mmorpg concept, and for me as a player.
I think I've also heard complaints about WoW's graphics; easy to see how that turned out. Graphics over gameplay never will work: you can ask Brad McQuaid about that or even John Smedly and the EQ2 gang .

Ok, for the ....... time i try to inform you too about the truth of how long we been waiting for Darkfall and how long Darkfall been in development. Darkfall as a game were announced 2001 in Norway. So, most everyone sees Darkfall under development today as a game from 2001 which isnt right.
Darkfall restarted mid 2003 in Greece when the original development team merged with the Greece company Aventurine SA. Darkfall will have been under development 5 year this summer which isnt a long time for a game with Darkfalls magnitude. Imagine balancing all those features and remember that the world is all handmade for greater variation and uniqueness. If beta releases as i think summer 2008 then id say they did a hell of a job in a very short time.
Game developers changed from 4 guys in a cellar to 20-30 developers, better financial backup, new equipment, restarting programming from zero, new game engine, and devs themself have informed us they started from scratch mid 2003. Theirs ambition level increased since they simply had better resources then before Razorwax merged with Aventurine late 2002.
And i totally agree with you and the OP that we need more dynamic, playerdriven MMORPG games like Darkfall. Darkfalls hopefully real strength will be its gameplay not the graphics. Although i must say im very surprised by the really beautiful latest screens delivered.

I'm afraid no matter how many times you post the DF history lesson, for many of us they don't get a 'restart' pass when the team merged in 2003. From our perspective, the game has been announced (including a beta) at least as a concept from the 2001 date, and the total dev time is 7 years and counting no matter how many times you try to spin it differently. I hate to digress like this, but these attempts to rewrite DF's history always annoy me.
Now back on topic. I too am not concerned with DF's graphic quality, what I've seen so far is certainly enough for me. I'd love to see more though, particularly more videos that contain npc's, mobs and player characters in action. It is all about the gameplay and what they've promised is a game I'd really love to play.
But I won't put on the rose colored glasses or apologize for their actions. They've made major mistakes in promotion and marketing of this game so far, (IMO) and they haven't revealed nearly enough info about the game for (sorry, forget the screenshots, very tired of them) after being in development for so long.
Right now, I want to see them invite some major gaming sites (like MMORPG.com) to come visit and report on what they actually can put their hands on and play. Until that day comes, I'm just not going to get my hopes up.
Who the hell are you, and why should I care? Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!
Wheres the loot?=) Wheres the consequences if you live or die?=) Where is the open totally free world?=) Where is the dynamic player driven world?=) AoC is just another carebear game for kids that wanna play safe. Darkfall gameplay will be so much fun. Cant wait to play in another dynamic player driven world, just like UO but in 3-D.=)
lol i bet in the long run darkfall will hjave more subs than AOC
That's if the game ever launches. It's been 4 years and still no new news on the status of the game. I've all but given up following a vaporware product.

I rather believe what Tasos Flambouras informs me in his developer journals then some random guy on a internet website. 5 years this summer isnt a long time for developing a game like Darkfall.
They havent made any mistake concerning promotions and advertising. Its a mature choice made far back not too prioritate promoting nor advertising at all. All funds and workload is put on making as a good game as possible and let it speak on its strength. A good choice id say for a smaller company. And choosing not making expensive advertising campaigns will make them less vulnerable and need less subscribers to get arround financially.
Back on topic - Darkfall will if it delivers be a dynamic, player driven world like Ultima Online, EvE, Shadowbane. And Darkfall will move MMORPG:s to the next level. A dynamic world controlled by players to help story and content rather then the developer. A world that will not be constant but ever changing due to wars and territory changes. Its the players that controls the ingame, developers builds the foundations.
So in a game like Darkfall very little have to do with graphics. Graphics never were the main important feature.
Aragon100 let it be(sings silently the Song "Let it beeeeee.. let it bee.. ohh let it beee") it isnt worth your time, and it isnt important anyway. So now for everyone.. again
Yes, they have started even before 2001 with concept.
Yes say have to began to develop as Razorwax Darkfall Online, and announced a Beta for 2003 and a release short after it.(both in 2001-2002).
Then they merged with Aventurine and the Razorwax guys went to Athen(Greece) and canceled the beta and the release for further developing of Darkfall with now more funds and a greater team.. they growth to over 30 ppl.
Yes, the announced a soon coming clan beta took applications for the clan beta in 2005.
2006 they excused and but said it may come sometimes "soon" or with other word since 2005 the beta will be "soon" available.. they named a few reasons delay, but however said almost in the same sentence if some few conditions are fullfilled the beta will launch then soon.
Generally speaking Darkfall is over 7 years in development(with concept phase even longer) and they have pushed back a few times the start of the beta. All this is the truth and everyone can read it at the darkfall forum in the news sections and all available informations.
But.. where is the problem? I cant remember not one mmo, which was ever released without any pushbacks from beta or/and release. Also a lot got some revamp like Darkfall. And the developing cycle of a mmorpg is really long, so nothing special that a small team need a lot of time to develop a project like Darkfall. And i cant remember of a mmo with a shorter development cycle of 5 years.. granted major companies announce it the first time a few years after the concept phase and early developing.
Is their a reason to be critical? Or even sceptical about a project like Darkfall from a more or less unknown and unexperienced development team? Of course, a lot of mmorpgs(even from major companies) got canceled all the time, and a lot of(if not everyone) mmorpgs miss a lot of announced features when it get finally released. So yes.. there are enough reasons to be sceptical and critical about almost any mmorpg in development, and even more about a mmorpg from a indy development team.
But.. to all doomsayers, and vaporware trolls.. everyone knows this, it is nothing secretively, but as much as it is possible to fail, as much it is possible to succeed.
And to all over optimistic fanboys.. yeap, Darkfall can indeed fail, and it would not the first one. Be it with a buggy release and almost no announced features, or got even canceled for whatever reasons.
But what a lot of trolls like to hint is, that aventurine or darkfall is a scam, and therefore are zero evidence.
We know that aventurine is a real company, we know that they really work at the mmorpg darkfall online, that is proven and you can even look their office.(from some interviews with the DF team in the past)
And we know even more that they did not want our money, neither in the past nor will it be likely in the future.
So.. i guess everything is said about it.. now just copy&paste this shit, whenever you or anyone else need to do it.. maybe include some links for evidence. But from now on there is no need to talk more about it.. even more because everyone has heard all "arguements" from both sides, and mostly they are not even good or lack some details, or try to white- or blackwash.

Your right, i let it rest. All is said and its just forever timeconsuming repetition. I also like your point of view on the bigger picture.
Seems I hit a DF fanboy cord. Anyway, nice attempt at making an upset with the ever original carebear dribble.
I could call you a carebear for looking for an adrenaline rush, and some sort of accomplishment from a computer game... go join the military if you're so hardcore. What about kill anyone you want on a PvP server is carebear? That sounds a lot like free PvP to me.
I like to play games from established developers... not some random start up who hasn't a clue what they're doing. Imagine how bad the game support/balance/quality is going to be if they are having a hard time even getting it developed in the first place.
Enjoy Darkfall while it lasts... if it ever even exists.
My guess is that fanbois of AoC is going to feel pretty silly end of may. Based on what my friends in beta tells me, the game feels unfinished, the classes are not balanced for PvP and they haven't even tested DX10 yet. The zoning makes griefing exploits highly likely and PvP servers doen't allow combat in city.

I don't think the millions of people world wide playing it will miss you very much. Some psychologists should do a case study on the people left believing Darkfall is actually going to amount to anything anymore at this point..
My guess is that fanbois of AoC is going to feel pretty silly end of may.
That's ok considering Darkfall followers have been looking silly for the last 7 years now.
At least I'll actually have something to play between visiting these boards every few days to get my latest laugh from Aragons latest delusional postings.

Yes, Jusom, because we all know that Funcom has a stellar record when it comes to launches and subscription numbers...
Launches aside, Anarchy Online was a great game with tons of content from the start, and they added tons of content as the game got older. During the 4+ years I played, this game had the tightest knit community I have ever experienced. (sorry, had to jump on that, AO is my baby) Granted, that's when it was P2P, so things might be a bit different now.
I've got mixed feelings about Darkfall. I (and others) want it to be the greatest thing ever, and fully agree with the OP that a good game experience trumps eye candy. Great experiences are starting to seem like a thing of the past though, since our poor market is full of money hungry execs who don't know a +1 broadsword from a horses ass. It seems like most people (just an opinion here) have had their best experience with their first MMO (if indeed your first MMO was one of the 1st gen greats, including Anarchy Online, AC/AC2, DAoC, EQ, Shadowbane, Ultima, and Pre-CU SWG), and TBH I'm not sure if it was because it was our first, or because all of those games were great in their own rights. MMO's are in a sorry state atm, and hopefully this next wave will do a bit better than recent attempts (excluding WoW, that game's just not for me=).

Ok.. i watched both. And well, the AC2 movie is good for 2002, but not better than the vids from DF(far away from it)...
Than maybe you should watch it again without your darkfall blinders on this time because that AC2 video is still graphically many levels above anything DF has ever released in a video.

now we know your just a troll
It is amazing how people are basing how good this game will be based onthe Graphics when the Most successfull MMO to date WoW has some of the Crappiest graphics i have seen? There is nothing Wrong with the Graphics in Darkfall these HateBoys as i call em (i know not ver original lol) are just trying to find something else to try and crap on about to amuse themselves. DarkFall will be a hit when and if it releases and this is what is really getting these HateBoys nickers in a twist cause they dont want to be Proven Wrong.
I'm sorry but your graphical assessment of Darkfall's level equaling something from 05 or 06 is just not right. Show me any MMOG that has released in 2007, forget 05 or 06, with graphics that are on par with the latest images we have seen.

Glad you hope it comes out : )

Where's the game?=)

AoC will not provide much to PvPers, one exeption may be the borderlands but from what i understand that is instanced and for endgame only. This is however not problems problems just for AoC but for every levelbased themeparkgames.
