Best Solo Friendly?

tongtonktongtonk Member Posts: 6

Can anyone recommend a good MMO for solo players?  I have a lot of interuptions during gameplay that would hurt group play so I am looking for the best option to solo.  I've already played WOW and am looking for something else.

All suggestions appreciated.

You can easily solo to the highest lvl and make your own raid quality stuff in the following games.

    Lord of the Rings Online

    Vanguard

actually, those are the only 2 games worth mentioning.

City of Heroes/Villains.  You can even earn the best loot solo.  The purples IOs, can earn that in solo.

Have only 15 minutes, you can get good XP.  You can make it to max level in less than 150 hours if you are focused, but even if you are not focused, you will eventually make it to max level.

In LotRO and Vanguard, you will make SOME of the best gear crafting (although solo, someone could argue that crafting is or not solo)...but you will miss MOST of the best gear.  In CoX, eventually you can earn ALL the best gear (purples IOs and IOs in general).

Honestly most games currently released have the ability to solo to the max level. The issue is more with End game content...PVE games (Like WoW, LOTRO, etc)  end game is all about large group encounters. In general PvP games are more likely to be casual and solo friendly.

I agree with the suggestions for  LOTRO, COX. If you dont plan on end game raiding you can even solo to 70 in WoW.

Consider DAOC, Eve and Guild WARS for good PvP games where you can solo.

    Good Luck

1 shot crit items in lotro are arguably better than rift / pvp gear, and crafting is so simple in this game, anyone can do it.

City of Heroes/Villains could be your best bet.

It's less end-game oriented than most other MMOs. There's always plenty of players populating lower and middle level gameplay. Not an important concern if you plan to solo all the time, but its nice seeing a lot of other players around.

If you like PvP at all, the mid-level and high-level PvP areas are always a lot more solo-friendly than say, DAoC's battlegrounds where more often than not, grouping is your best bet.

PvE-wise you're able to adjust mission difficulty, which means boredom due to lackof or too much challenge will probably never be a concern.

Issues are another merit. "Issues" being the naming convention of CoX's patches. They're almost always geared towards offering content for all levels; rarely anything raid related, and usually include more soloable content than strictly group content.

In general, CoX is heavily solo-friendly, and high on replayability with all the different powerset match-ups and viability of EVER archetype's ability to solo.

It's definitely my MMO of choice when I don't have a lot of time and need an MMO I can have fun with solo without feeling like I'm gimped for not grouping.

Guild Wars is good too for a short-burst. Not a whole lot of replayability unless you're into trying different specs. Your ability to like Guild Wars though depends on how much persistence you require of your MMO and how much you can tolerate instancing.

thought EQ2 was very much solo-based nowadays?

  • fervorfervor Member Posts: 145

EQ2 is very solo friendly.  If it wasn't for the fact that the PvP is lacking or messed up, I'd wholeheartedly recommend EQ2 to everyone.  The PvE aspect of the game is very slick and as fun as it gets in this generation of MMORPG's.  Of course, the end game is raiding, so group oriented, but that's pretty much the same for every other game.

I agree with everyone recommending CoH/CoV.  It's a game that every MMO player should try playing at least for a while.  It's different enough from the standard fantasy grind that it's a great change of pace.  And for some people, it's the perfect game.

I'd prolly go with EQ2, although its been out awhile, since your solo it wont matter. Tons of content in there to chew on.

As an alternative,...have you considered the F2P (Free to PLay) games?  Games like Rappelz, FlyFF,..DoMO,..and the ,open beta Mabinogi( which I am loving right now). jus do a search for f2p mmo : p

I am prolly jus as time sensitive to interuptions as you and these games provide me with a guilt free MMO-fix.

    peace

Guild Wars, and the most other games nowadays, features very solo friendly content. Thanks to the heroes, which were introduced in the Nightfall campaign, and henchman you can run with a full group consisting of you and some NPCs and still be as good as the most other groups with 8 players. You can pretty much complete all campaigns, find out the most areas and acquire the most titles all alone.

If you are pressed for time I would have to recommend City of Heroes/Villains. You can solo in most games, but coh is just so easy to hop in and play for short bursts it is hard not to place this at the top.

Despite what some may say, Vanguard is one of the most solo friendly games.   Sure there are lots of dungeons that are geared toward groups and lots of quest, but there is lots of solo content as well.
