This whole darkfall thing

in Darkfall

ok basically i just would like to know what the hype with this game is about.

i have seen one or two videos and a couple of screen shots  and thats pretty much it.

so what features does the game boast that makes the game worth waiting for? i.e. crafting, pve,pvp,rp, combat, and so on.

 

the main reason for this are the MANY flame wars that i see between this game and AoC (which i am a fan of too)  thanks much .

    Darkfall is toted as a "hardcore" PvP game. Full corpse looting in pvp (which means that if someone kills you they can take all of your items and money), mounted combat, ship to ship combat, city building/sieges and all that good stuff. Oh, and I believe it is supposed to have an active combat system as well.

    Basically the hardcore pvp crowd's golden dream.

    The sleeper awakes...and rides his dirtbike to the mall.

    The game has been advertised as having ALL the stuff that every hardcore player has always wanted to have, since the early days of UO.

     

    I don't see this happening even remotely.  The game has been in development for up to 7 years if you count the frist company.  They have made beta announcements several times over the years, to just rescind on them.  They even re-issued old screenshots as new ones at times.  None of the newer stuff has any npcs, players or anything showing the mechanics of the game.  I could go on forever on what this company has done, but in the end people can only wait till you actually see something concrete.

     

    I would like a return to this type of game, as I beta tested Wish and it had the closest to this style.  Yet it like so many other games harkening to back to the old days of true pvp,  failed to see the light of day.  Darkfall has been in production for too long to be a real success in todays market which has totally exploded.  I don't see it ever coming to the light of day, and if it does, it will not garner enough strength to be even a niche game.

     

    The market is overflowing with too many MMO games and will soon crash, I expect later this year to see a crash and watch even some of the big companies come out hurting.

    Please try to stay on topic. That person was just answering the question that the OP asked, not bashing, just giving his opinion.

    Again, this game is basically the PvP gamer's paradise....IF and it's a pretty big if at this point it releases. I for one hope it does, and I think it has a decent chance at this point.

    I understand, but you have to remember it's all guessing right now you know? No one knows what the future holds for this, or any game really so it's all just guessing.

    Glad to see that you have faith in the game, and I truly do respect that, but I also respect his view as well.

        I'll agree with you that the genre is cerntainly going to crash, but you have to consider that this game has been in development so long for a reason. Anyone with game development experience can understand the how much work is involved in making a game like this come to fruition. The truth is most MMO's currently on the market are just re-itereations of older games with a different graphical style. MMO's were in their prime just shortly after being introduced. Since then the rest of the adopters of the genre kept the framework the same and deviated very little.

        You can be as skeptical as you want , but the facts are there if you look for them. The companies exist, and there have been many trips to their head offices where individuals have played the game. The reactions from those single previews have given me more hope for this game then any other game coming out anytime soon. WAR will just be a WoW clone, with minor changes, AOC may have promies, though in my opinion the combat doesnt look as responsive as Darkfall's. If you want to experience a real MMO with a persistent universe, real world implications, and freedom to live as you want in an alternate reality then Darkfall will definitley be the game for you. If you want a company to hold your hand through pre-determined content, jump on the WAR bandwagon.

    I understand, but from my perspective of being around the mmo scene since the days it was just MUDs,  I have seen so many games with promise that don't live up to expectations and from all appearances Darkfall is one of them.  You compared its long dev cycle to WoW and if you looked back at WoW's dev cycle it constantly showed the game mechanics, and everything you would have expected it to show the industry.  Darkfall has done none of this, yet they keep telling people SOON..........

     

    Well, because of the increasing competition from all sectors of the MMO market, SOON has come and gone.  Whatever they are doing, I believe is too late to make the game what it could have been.  You have many big companies entering the market with huge projects and still many more smaller companies with their own projects.  What has Darkfall shown to prove that they can compete at all.  I am not talking about still photos that could easily have been produced with any kind of photo editor, nor am I talking about videos that show nothing that could not be produced with video editors.  I am talking about concrete demos of combat, character creations, and the many other things that normal companies show to get interest in their games.

     

    If the producers of Darkfall prove me wrong and come out with a good game, I will be one of the first to get it and log in.  But it has been quite a long road with nothing to show but manufactured pics and videos.

    and to the poster that said war is a wow clone, its actually closer to the other way around blizzard tried to make a game using the warhammer ip first. when it wasn't alowed to it made two simmilar games warcraft and starcraft the rest as you say is history

    it does take a pr departmeant to show this stuff people visting have confirmed them telling the truth but no you dont want to belive other people

    The main features is: FFAPvP (friendly fire) and Full loot. No levels or classes, only a open skill system. Do whatever you want so to say.

    And the most important feature we are waiting for (in any MMO), player freedom.

    I've noticed that it's mostly AoC fans who decry Darkfall as 'vapourware'. Don't know why. Some of them may be thinking that Darkfall is threatening 'their' game so they crap on Darkfall at every opportunity.

    They really should be worrying about WAR instead IMO.

    The game is skill based with a minimal ammount of FPS, but other than that has all the right !! features plus faction. Not nearly as hardcore as people like to think. With a vast world easy to avoid conflict and solo and PvE.  Full loot won't matter people who don't care for PvP will play with NPC looted items.

    PvPers won't have the rich pickings and Gank fest they think ...

    Great design concept and approach small company with respect to games development and lots of hopes .. Lets just hope they do release will be fun.

    You take that back right now. You are just a fool if you dont know that WoW was the first and Best MMO ever producted. UO, AC and EQ were just cheap knock offs of the all mighty WoW. In fact, im pretty sure WoW invented the whole idea of Elves, Dwarves and Gnomes, not to mention swords and armor.

    10 MILLION PEOPLE CANT BE WRONG!!!!!

    Sorry, i just had to do that. And no, they will probably never figure out that WoW is the essence of everything bad in the MMO genre.

    I really hope that Darkfall comes out. I have never really played a PVP game let alone a FFA PVP game (i chose EQ over UO and AC) but the sandbox feel of Darkfall takes me back to the games of old. I really want that feeling back.

     No offense to you or Seggalian personally but... You guys need to get a life. Seriously.

     Let me tell you this. Ideas DON'T make a game. And screenshots are worthless UNLESS they are "actual in game footage". Let me repeat. New screenshots mean absolutely nothing, unless they were captured DURING actual IN GAME play.

    Not sure what you don't understand about that, but I've read several comments by you in the post regarding "new" screenshots and you were very excited. They mean NOTHING!

    And as far as the game having WAY more features, as you state above. Are you kidding me, or are you so immature you can't see the forest for the trees? Darkfall has NO features at all! Let me repeat for the weak minded. Darkfall has NO features at all. It simply has "ideas". Features are something actually programmed into a fully functioning game. If a game isn't actually functioning, these "features", as you allude to them, are nothing more than ideas.

    And that's the state of Darkfall.

    Lastly... I'm willing to bet that exactly this time NEXT year, you will be posting the same drivel over and over again. I'm not sure how many years will have to pass without Darkfall seeing the light of day for you to finally get it. My guess is that you and Segallian will NEVER get it. We'll all come back to this forum 10 years from now and you will still be posting about Darkfall.

    Not sure what you don't understand about that, but I've read several comments by you in the post regarding "new" screenshots and you were very excited. They mean NOTHING!

    And as far as the game having WAY more features, as you state above. Are you kidding me, or are you so immature you can't see the forest for the trees? Darkfall has NO features at all! Let me repeat for the weak minded. Darkfall has NO features at all. It simply has "ideas". Features are something actually programmed into a fully functioning game. If a game isn't actual functioning, these "features", as you alude to them, are nothing more than ideas.

    And that's the state of Darkfall.

    Lastly... I'm willing to bet that exactly this time NEXT year, you will be posting the same drivel over and over again. I'm not sure how many years will have to pass without Darkfall seeing the light of day for you to finally get it. My guess is that you and Segallian will NEVER get it. We'll all come back to this forum 10 years from now and you will still be posting about Darkfall.

    What you dont understand is that Darfall is a fully functioning game and because of that it has features.  It just has not released to the public yet.  The Screen shots are from in game footage. 

     

    Darkfall maybe ready this year but both AoC and WAR will not be ready. Both will be pushed back.  If AoC is not pushed back again then we will have another "Vanguard" on our hands.

    Lets take the time to think before we post next time, it might make you realize that you have no facts backing you up.

    We know Darkfall is development, we know they have a fully fuctioning game that they are currently de bugging the program.   We know this because of the countless screenshots of in game footage and in game video footage.

    Is Darfall ready for Beta yet or release? No idea but We all know based on the information at hand that Darkfall is being made and that they have a fully fuctioning game with more FEATURES then any other MMO out or in the hopper to be released.

    Please try again.  Thank you for posting but please  think before typing a post out, it might save you from looking stupied next time.

    You take that back right now. You are just a fool if you dont know that WoW was the first and Best MMO ever producted. UO, AC and EQ were just cheap knock offs of the all mighty WoW. In fact, im pretty sure WoW invented the whole idea of Elves, Dwarves and Gnomes, not to mention swords and armor.

    Sorry, i just had to do that. And no, they will probably never figure out that WoW is the essence of everything bad in the MMO genre.

    I really hope that Darkfall comes out. I have never really played a PVP game let alone a FFA PVP game (i chose EQ over UO and AC) but the sandbox feel of Darkfall takes me back to the games of old. I really want that feeling back.

Actually most people I play with in WoW have probably played other MMOs before. So what's with the hate? Can't you just accept the fact, that WoW is a good game for 10 million people?     and to the poster that said war is a wow clone, its actually closer to the other way around blizzard tried to make a game using the warhammer ip first. when it wasn't alowed to it made two simmilar games warcraft and starcraft the rest as you say is history

    I've noticed that it's mostly AoC fans who decry Darkfall as 'vapourware'. Don't know why. Some of them may be thinking that Darkfall is threatening 'their' game so they crap on Darkfall at every opportunity.

    They really should be worrying about WAR instead IMO.

    darkfall as of right now is vaporware. And i couldnt give a crap how AoC and WAR do.

    I don't see this happening even remotely.  The game has been in development for up to 7 years if you count the frist company.  They have made beta announcements several times over the years, to just rescind on them.  They even re-issued old screenshots as new ones at times.  None of the newer stuff has any npcs, players or anything showing the mechanics of the game.  I could go on forever on what this company has done, but in the end people can only wait till you actually see something concrete.
     
    I would like a return to this type of game, as I beta tested Wish and it had the closest to this style.  Yet it like so many other games harkening to back to the old days of true pvp,  failed to see the light of day.  Darkfall has been in production for too long to be a real success in todays market which has totally exploded.  I don't see it ever coming to the light of day, and if it does, it will not garner enough strength to be even a niche game.
     
    The market is overflowing with too many MMO games and will soon crash, I expect later this year to see a crash and watch even some of the big companies come out hurting.

    Where is this fully functioning Darkfall? No one has ever seen it. So how the heck do you know anything? You talk down to people like you are all knowing, when actually you know absoloutely nothing.

    And genius.... Get a clue... AOC is due out May 20th... Guess what genius? People have actually played that game and CD's are being produced with a fully functioning game and manual. Tell me genius. What has the Darkfall team EVER produced for anyone to see? Ever?
