New grouping tools could be SOE's undoing

The new grouping tools that are being discussed on the official forums will finally show how small the populations are. It looks like they allow for galaxy-wide searches for people both on the ground and in space so we'll finally be done with the arguments that there are thousands of players playing but they are just spread out.
For a company that is so paranoid about releasing population stats this seems like a risky move for them.

I don't even think SOE cares anymore at this point lol. I mean, you can talk to friends and see who is on without even being subscribed to the game. That was the only reason most people would resub, was to talk to old ingame friends.
i would agree on that. as it opens the looking glass on the world as a whole and view how many truly are on at any given time. id beckon a person who is playing, once this is implemented to do group searches in intervals of 1 hour up and until peak time and past to view what numbers tehre are at these times, and get a overall consensus on numbers.

Of course these tools will be their undoing.
They will be useless. Anyone who pvp's ALWAYS is set /anon.
Which exempts you from the current AND new search features.
The only people NOT set /anon are noobs. There aren't many (if any) of those. SWG hasn't gotten a statistically significant number of new players since the NGE, the majority STILL are pre CU vets, though 1/10th (or less) the number they had pre NGE.
Devoting a whole publish to a worthless tool pretty much proves that the management of SWG sill are... tools.
Improved grouping tools might help a game that doesn't already have a collapsed population and 20 of 25 empty servers. Won't do shit for the NGE though.
