Best Keyboard and Mouse?

EDekarEDekar Member UncommonPosts: 6

With my tax return nigh, I've been looking into doing some upgrading to my machine. Presently use a generic Labtec keyboard (all the keys are bare, I type a lot) and a G7 Logitech Mouse (very glitchy).

From what information I've been able to glean, it looks like the Razer Tachesis and the Merc Stealth are the best two for what I use my machine for (primarily Guild Wars, City of Heroes/Villains, and the rare FPS style game).

Does anyone have any other recommendations, links, and/or thoughts? The way I see it, if I'm going to upgrade I might as well see what the industry has to offer me as an MMOGamer.

Thanks!

The Lachesis owns face. Buy one.

It pretty much boils down to what feels comfortable to you or more importantly, what feels comfortable to you after 6+ hours of use.

My personal recommendation is the Logitech MX 518.   It's very responsive and accurate.  It's no longer cutting edge technology but I find the layout is intuitive and the shape is comfortable.  Then again, I am right handed and prefer a larger mouse under my palm anyway.

Using a G5 mouse.  I have had problems with wireless mouse before like constant battery replacement and signal being interrupted.  I am also using a Saitek Eclipse.  Its a pretty nice keyboard.

The problem I have with my G7 is that my system (more than one application) has been registering one click as several. This gets rather frustrating when, for example, in City of Heroes I'm trying to drag an Inspiration to a teammate or pet and instead it gets used. Quite pointless for me to pop a red when I'm a Mastermind. I liked it for the six or so months that it functioned without issue, but it's only gotten worse since then, so I find it time to upgrade.

Looking around locally, my options appear limited to the Logitech G15 Keyboard, the Razer Tarantula, the Razer Lycosa, and a few Saitek models. Everything else is standard office use keyboards, which I'm presently ignoring. I had hoped to find the Merc Stealth, but it appears to have been discontinued as no one carries it anymore.

I also use a G5, and its honestly the best mouse I've ever used.  The only one that comes close is my old mx500.  Mouse drag becomes a problem for me as well at times, so I usually end up replacing my mousepad once a month or so.  I own an Icemat, but i had a few problems with it, the moisture from my palm would cause movement to stall at critical moments.  So I've been using generic cloth covered gel pads for a while.

My keyboard is a g15, the first incarnation.  I'm not sure how good the new model is, but this keyboard owns face.  One of the best purchases I've ever made.  You wouldn't think it, but i couldn't live without the little lcd screen any more.  Once you get used to it... its essential.  It has 18 macro keys that can be switched between 3 profiles on the fly, so plenty of customization options there.  The keyboard I used before that was a logitech elite.

And logitech peripherals are built to last.  I gave my old system to my younger brother last year, and he still uses the mx500 and elite.  They're about 5 years old now I believe, and have been put to very heavy use nearly every night.
