I had the Atari and all that. I also had the NES, SNES, N64... blah, blah, blah. I loved em. But I wasn't able to get a computer till later on. In fact, the reason I got one was because I was obsessed with a little game called DIABLO!!! Totally started a whole slew of gaming. Loved C&C, that got me LAN-ing. Then it was Battlefield 1942... that got me on Ventrilo... which eventually led to MMO's. First one of those? EQ, BUT, it wasn't my first MMO love, yes THAT role is reserved for Star Wars Galaxies... Beta and up until SONY started SCREWING the fans.
The first game I ever played... I think it was DK & Mortal Combat on the SNES. Followed by Sonic on the Genesis. But the first game I ever LOVED..... The Legend of Zelda ocarina of time.
Zelda: A Link to the Past, on an emulator, is probably the first game I played and it got me hooked. From there I proceeded to Final Fantasy (whichever that one was), which confused me beyond anything thus ending up in me running in circles stuck on some quest; and yet I kept on playing. Zelda:A Link to the Past is however my favorite game of all Zelda games and I still consider it to be the best too, and probably one of the largest ones too; the game never seemed to have an end.
There was some dragon lance game i cant remember the name of where you rode a dragon chuckin fireballs and lancing all the other dragon riders...eventually working your way up to a gold dragon with a holy lance etc and it was you vs about 100 red dragons.
that one got me thinking computers were the way to go.
the only online game that put the hooks in me was SWG thus far, but im pretty sure EaB woulda hooked me too if i had caught that one.
i logged on today to find me a new game lol ....im still waiting since SWG
It's just refreshing to know I'm not the only closet "uber geek" who can say "I remember when or back in the day when systems didn't have hard drives..."
LOL! I remember playing AD&D games on my Comm 64. It used one of the big, old 5.25 floppies to save the game on. When I saved the game, it took soooo long to save that I could go to the kitchen, make a quick sandwich, pour a glass of milk, come back to the game and still would have to wait a few seconds before the game kicked in again!!
I played Mortal Kombat as my first game, I could beat everyone on my street. However my first time addicted to a game was Sonic the Hedgehog (This was the first one, you know.. BEFORE they ruined the franchise) I had it down so I could beat it in a few hours. Genesis was and still is one of my favorite consoles.
Probably Donkey Kong Country 2. I remember my bro got the guide and everything and we tried to pass the levels with those invisibles barrels. Good times.

Halo started it off...
Then runescape finished it off.
