Yeah, the fantasy genre has been beat to death. So what I'm wondering is what genre would you all really like to see in an MMO that hasn't been done before? What genre of MMO has been done, yet you would like to see it done better?
For myself, I'm interested in The Agency. I think the spy genre could be a fun change of pace. I'd also like to see a Road Warrior / Car Wars (if any of you remember that pnp / video game), developed...sort of a Motor City Online (if any of you remember this EA fiasco - had some nice features, but really fell short of the mark) meets Unreal Tournament.
As for genre that have already been done, but could be done better...a good pirate game would be nice. PotBS was a disappointment in beta, and I haven't heard much better about it, thus far. Also, a good futuristic MMO that includes space combat and ships, with ground exploration and combat as well. I know many people like EVE, but for me it was just very boring and highly repetitive. SWG is drastically showing its age, is clunky and has sub-par game play based on today's standards. (And no, we do not need another flame festival about how SoE sucks because the NGE killed SWG) =P

I think its time for some more Sci-Fi MMOs to be made (Star Trek Anyone????) not a fan of Stargate so that wouldnt be very interesting if I dont even like the show. Maybe Babylon 5 another Star Wars MMO perhaps, Battlestar Galactica or just something really creative and unknown and from scratch. Or better yet my fav movie saga of all the Alien Legacy, how about a Aliens MMO? Soldiers, Space, Corporations and Alien Races hmm and skill based as well. More sandbox MMOs are definetely needed
What about the Post-Apoclypitic MMO setting Fallen Earth?? Maybe a Fallout MMO????
What about a Grand Theft Auto MMO or APB?? Something new and fresh.
What about a Resident Evilish type MMO ?? That would be interesting to see if done right
How about some classics revived into MMOs? Like the old PC squad turn based game called X-COM series?
What about a real world military MMO, where politics, economies , and military control of their countries kinda like the SP game Superpower did?? Only less buggy and more content implemntation??
There are lots of MMO's that could be made into great games IF done right and are not rushed to the market.
Myself I hate fantasy game MMO's the old pen and paper games yes I can play D&D with the best of them but Orcs, Elves , and Knights are kinda getting old time to move on to something more creative and different and not try to clone WOW...
I would like to see a Fallout series MMo.
I would like to see an angels and demons mmo where you start as a lesser angel and try to become a lesser god and then a real god. Panthons are filled with wars among gods so it would give some nice pvp.
They would have to do something about the gear though. An angel in plate would look weird.
Quest would have to be different too. I don't really think that killing boars as an angel would be nice.
There's place for development. Quest could make peoples from lesser plans believe in us and these beliefs could be spent in abilities. It could be different.

Wasn't Dark and Light kind of like that?
Maybe, I don't know. I only tried it to level 5 I think and it appeared fantasy to me. Maybe the lore was more like it. It it had been playable, it could have been fun. hehe
Blackraist
City of Vampires vs City of WereWolves. (done a little like CoX, but with the experience of the past...and the vs thing is fully optional and not enforced in any way)
Or a City of Medieval-fantasy concept...again with CoX as the basic inspiration guideline.

Don't see it ever happening, but Shadowrun gets my vote.
not sure if anyone knows this rpg or not, but i would kill to play a Cyberpunk MMO. Based in Night City, was a talsorian game......but don't think it is any more.
A Harry Potter type mmo would interest me. That or one that is based around Greek or Norse mythology.
Mad Max or After Math post world type setting.
See firefly2003's post ... now paste it here ! Great reply !
I love these types of posts, posts that are not all about what /who /which is best ... flame wars and such.
* Post-Apocalyptic : After any type of war , Nukes , Non-nukes , Alternate History , Space war ,etc... We can mutate from radiation or fight for our soil back or whatever ...
* "Cyberpunk" / William Gibson's Neuromancer / Blade Runner: Love to have a gritty feeling mmo with dirty streets in seedy neighborhoods with underground implant and stimulant dealers - A LARGE majority of gamers CAN handle slightly more mature themes.
* Horror : Survive Zombie Apocalypse , Radiation leak , Germ Scare , 28 days later , Resident Evil
***OR just the OPPOSITE - which I would love - Allow the players to be the " Bad Guys " let us hunt down those silly humans and feast on them or turn them in to slaves or equals or piles of sludge to block up the drainage ditches... - this would work favorably in ANY genre in my opinion!
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy would be a blast - once an earthling , swept off just in time ...now what...
Tron ? Although it is still kinda sword and sourcery , what about Diskworld ?
I know there are greater minds out there with visions past my Elf fending off that big ol Dragon.
I still love the Fantasy genre, always will , I will always have an RPG Fantasy game going somewhere but ...
Right now against the reviews - I am having a pretty good time playing Tabula Rasa actually (it may not be as deep as it was laid out as but I think it is evolving into a very good game ) and instead of EQ2 I may end up playing Champions or the Agency.
ok enough of my ramblings. enjoy...
- screw Jack Thompson - I am sick of crafting - give me a Monty Python MMO - PimP the MMO ftw ? - Road Warrior / Mad Max MMO ??? I AM IN !!!
Old West or a good Sci Fi like Dune. maybe a cyber punk but that would take alot of work to do right . Horror would be to hard to balance. 3 games im putting alot of faith in Fallen Earth, Earthrise, and Stargate Worlds.
(1) Post-apocalyptic - hoping Fallen Earth or Earthrise will fit the bill
(2) Vampire - Bloodlines - I'd be there in a heartbeat
(3) Western - Something in me would love to survive in the wild west and I am really surprised no one has taken this genre and made a fortune with it !! Has great potential for PvP, PvE and a truly interesting crafting/economy. Ah well.

I see some one else wants the Western to , i'm so fore a old west game.
A western MMO actually sounds interesting. I would definitely give it a try.
Old west - hell yeah. It slipped my mind when I made the original post. That would be at the top of my list. If it was done well, it would be a great genre. If nothing else, it'd be a study in how many different variations of the name "Clint Eastwood" people could devise.
What kind of horror would you call games like Silent Plot 1, The Secret World, and the yet-to-be-announced World of Darkness online (Assuming it's based off of nWoD)?
What about a medieval assassin mmo? Kind've like assassins creed but every man for himself and staged in western europe. You maybe start on the streets as a begger/cut throat and can do anything to work your way up through ranks (kinda like levels but with names/titles) . You can also be lawful but you first start off at the bottom.
<---- Lazy
Horror or Post Apocalyptic (or both). Preferably not based on a heavy character-driven IP since those always disappoint.
RPG
Deus Ex
Not exactly FPS or RPG, but a good old fashioned Mad Max experience, with the Matrix thrown in for fun.
Now after that, I'm going to have to find a game, because if I talk about DX anymore I'LL GO INSANE!!!!!!

Western! I thought of that reading back thru replies, right before i read the one that mentioned it! I'd def. give it a try, thanks for the mention
Space-western, like Firefly!
EVE is cool but I miss being able to run around on planets and TR currently fails at sci fi.
1- (Victorian) Steampunk
2- Western Horror Steampunk
3- Post-Apocalyptic (

Waiting for: GW2
