Open PVP MMORPG's?

I am looking for some good OPEN!!!!!! pvp rpg's... not like Guild wars or LOTRO where the pvp is instanced, or even WoW where you have those lame teams... I'm lookin for a hardcore MMO with death penalties, pvp looting, and open pvp.

    Yeah gl with shadowbane. Nobody plays, and its completly hard to udnerstand. They dont give any tutorial what so ever. I downloaded it and it was terrible...

    Waiting for: Archeage, Darkfall 2.0, and Planetside 2.

    That's not the real issue for me on SB, rather it's the community. Now, in multiplayer FPS titles like TF2 there are jokers, but on SB they have them by the truck load. And often they seek to make your displeasure their treasure (as in they really do want to piss you off). That, in itself, is what killed SB for me and not the counter-intuitive UI. Once you get past the UI, it's a fairly nuanced game, but the players are not so as I stated prior. And I'd much rather take a single joker in TF2 any day over the retards they call the 'elite' in SB.

    Because open PvP with harsh penalties and open looting is such a dinosaur (tried in UO and does not resonate with the players) and no one wants it.

    There will be no AAA MMORPG with these "features". Good luck to find a niche one, if there is enough players to play.

    What you want is pointless.

    Open PvP should be a byproduct of the world's balance not something you say I want this gimme.   You've pretty much already defeated yourself because there is no game like that and NEVER will be.

    sure there will be lots of MMO's that are open PvP with looting and maybe even skill loss.   but there will never be the FFA PvP game where you just kill other players for the sake of killing.

    I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

    Vanguard, last I played, has a FFA pvp server.

     

     

    Hope you bought your computer at NASA...

    Oh and their PvP has no development or support. There is no organized pvp built in the game, though city raiding was fairly popular.  Classes are not balanced around PvP, so balance was a huge issue when I played.

    Your first sentence: What is OPEN (in your bold letters)?  Do you mean a zone in which everyone can zone in simultaneously and zerg?  In that case, LOTRo has one such zone, all the the odd implementations of PVMP in LOTRo.  If you zone into ettenmore, its FFA with keeps and caves.

    Your second sentence: You want not just open (undefined)?  You want death penalty and pvp looting.  Then you should not list LOTRo, LOTRo is a PVE game mainly.  There is EVE, there are PVP servers in many games from EQ2 to VG.  There are the PVP driven asian games (some grinders, some less).  I do not see why you have to post here to tell us that you are looking for "OPEN" pvp games.

    May want to try DAOC. The frontiers is open and huge. Classic servers really have a Lot of people on them thatmakes for good PvP

    Yep. Just recently returned to DAoC myself and I've been playing the classic servers' mid-level battlegrounds. They're very fun and open, and it only takes a day or two to reach your first open PvP battleground worth going to (Killaloe 15-19). 



    City of HeroesVillains is a lighthearted choice as well. Better for soloing and rarely ever having to worry about a team to go out and participate in open battles.

    DAoC - still a great PVP/RVR experience, tho not exactly what many would call hardcore. The endgame is mostly team-PVP, meaning group-vs-group or else zerg-vs-zerg, which is a lot of fun. Solo PVP is mostly found in the battlegrounds (PVP zones for a given level range). Known issues include buffbots and PvE grind to get the good gear. These two things however are less of an issue on the classic servers...but gear defenitly matters in DAoC.

     

    EvE: Only played the trial but from what I understand it is pretty hardcore in terms of PvP...

    You could try Pirates of the Burning Sea before they remove the PVP.

    As far as I know, Eve is the only game on the market currently with looting.  No other game has it.  ... Although I might be missing something.  The only other game I've ever known that had looting was old UO before trammel and the changes.  (when it was forced open pvp)

    WurmOnline as well.  Skill loss to boot as well, and the winner picking up affinities to mastered skills.   There's also the ability to completely smash down any structure/town, which can get pretty profitable since the safe storage/bank only lets you store 5 items.

    But in the end it's not the main focus, and you need to actually be a part of the community to survive comfortably.  So pretty much unsurvivable to the OP.

    I was just checking that game out again.  A friend of mine used to play it.  Man I wish they would update the graphics.  I would definitely play it.

    ac1  still has harsher looting than EVE

     

     

    OP: You're a few years too late to the open PvP world. It used to be that we had plenty of games to choose from. UO and AC1 had near perfect ffa pvp.  Unfortunately, WoW came along and the genre is far different today.

     

    AoC will be bringing back FFA in less than 2 months =)

    Mythos has just introduced open pvp with looting,but you should see the crying on the forums about it,its shocking.people just dont like that sort of pvp

    You would be looking for Lineage II then , it has death penalties, etc.

    Darkfall Online will have that and it looks to be great -- if it comes out.  Who knows when that will be.

      If it comes Hell will freeze over the next day. Open PVP is pretty dead , its never been a good niche to buy into. The most common place you ll find it , is in Korean titles , especially ones older than 4 years , when Open PVP was profitable.

         Shadowbane has the best Open PVP , most everything else will be Realm vs Realm , or completely broken like Vanguard , and Conan.

          best bet for PVP would be shadow bane (instant level up , balanced , crappy graphics and blood thristy people.) or a Chinese crapfest like Perfect World or Zu Online.

    What you are looking for is Lineage 2; it's everything you said and more, especially hardcore. You can plan to be staying at least a year or more in this game.

    Ohh man shadowbane PvP was fun for about 30 seconds its nothing but chaos now.

    EVE online is completely open pvp to the rim. Was flying in Empire space on my alt and noticed a huge fight right by the NEWBIE starting area in Caldari space. There is very few MMOs that had FFA pvp right at the start <edit- btw dont try to gank in high sec though unless you made a wardec or know how to pull off a caper before the cops arrive lol>


    Might be some others like Shadbowbane (didnt play), AC1 DarkTide server, and Classic UO pre-Age of Shadows patch
