Found it horrible, the quests were boring and felt repetative. The combat was an absolute bore fest with the "stylish" corny moves. The character costume AKA Trench coat and cowboy hat looked laughable. I'm not sure if it was good a few years back but when i tried it ..it was rubbish.I just want to hear anyone elses input in the current state of the game and what they think. I mean you can just go play CoX which offers more.

You are a tad bit late..
I don't think anyone cares anymore..
Yeah, i know but i'm just wondering how high is the sub base? Is it higher than SWG?
Another game with potential killed off by SOE. Everything they touch turns to shit.
Yeah...just another failed movie-game adaptation it seems.
I agree, quite a bit. I played the trial recently as well and it just got really boring. All the missions I did had no sense of urgency and were empty of enemies. I felt the combat was unique and for the most part, the animations looked good but some of the animations were a bit silly... the strangle and then punch one for example. The city was kind of cool but the enemies just felt all tacked on and considering most of the city felt cut off, that didn't help.
Yeah, i know but i'm just wondering how high is the sub base? Is it higher than SWG?
It's probably about equal. SWG has about 7 low servers and 3 that hit medium sometimes... Matrix has 3-4 servers (forgot how many) and I beleive all of them hit medium at some point.
City felt a bit empty, and you get the odd group doing a bit of pvp near a phone booth but that was about it.
I was a beta tester for MxO. Back in the first few months after release, the game kicked serious ass.
One of the big draws was the fact that the story played out around you constantly, via a live events team who acted as the roles of the major characters.
When Morpheus met us on a rooftop and told us to gather our crew for a secret meeting in a basement, we realised we were playing a different kind of game.
It had so much going for it....but it wasn't the "mega smash money making cash cow" that WB was expecting, so they sold it to SOE...who fired off the live events team, smacked the game with an NGE, then tossed it in the corner, weeping and violated under the watchful eye of a dev team consisting of ONE man.
Live event team sounded quite cool, it's a shame what soe did
one of my favorite PVP events in any game was when the "Truce" finally broke down in MxO.
Tensions had been increasing over a period of weeks, the event team had us keyed up tight with the events that had gone on.....Radio Free Zion (an old web-radio station specifically for the game, could listen to it with the games built-in player) kept releasing breaking news that had us all knowing it was going to happen....
Almost the entire server population gathered on the battle lines, just waiting for someone to say or do the wrong thing....
And they flipped the switch.
We'd been fighting each other in a cold war for weeks, learned to hate one another through events, and competition, and when the battle exploded it was simply awesome.
Little did we realise of course that we had been tricked into fighting one another, so that another could reap the benefits...
I had a couple problems with the game.
First problem, the interlock system: being able to fight only one adversary at a time was the lamest thing I had ever seen. It was a deal breaker. Note to developers, when you experiment with a core system, you are essentially gambling your entire enterprise.
Second problem, I wanted to look cool like in the movies. But instead, I ended up like in a lot of mmo's looking like a clown mixing and matching outfits so I could get their stats. Instead of putting stats in clothes, they should have allocated point stats per level or some other method, that way clothes could be purely cosmetic and you could look the way you want.
Third problem, got bored of the setting. City, city and more city. It would have been nice to mix up the settings a bit. True the movies only showed the city, but the devs could have been more creative and shown us other settings. It's the matrix after all, and they did say in the movies they tried other settings but that humans rejected them. They could have expanded on that a bit.
i played this game when it first came out, it was horrible even then. the combat was what killed this game. it was pretty much roll the dice to see who wins. the character customization was cool, but thats about it. but sure, lets blame SOE for ruining a game that was crap at launch. Live events? they had one every few months. nothing big to make this game unique. SOE bought it because WB was goin to close it, and SOE kept it goin for the ppl who did like it. Plus they got the licsense to make the DC MMO. As for a MxO NGE? i didnt notice anything different from the day of launch from the time i reinstalled it a year ago to see if it was any better. I actually think it would be better as a clicky fight game with combos like Streetfighter or something. This game was never good.
Live events every few months??? HAHAHAHAH!!!
check this out.
Interlock combat has always been one of the most debated things about MxO. Some loved it, some hated it. For those who wanted to be able to combat more than one enemy at a time, though, use a gun, or load up hacker progs.
And personally, between crafting and drops, I never had a hard time finding statted stuff that still looked cool.
The game had a lot of potential. WB was going to shut it down because they expected a WoW type playerbase, what with the huge Matrix fanbase. It didn't happen, for the same reasons that SWG never hit those numbers...not every fan even HAS a computer, much less plays MMOs. Blizzard built up it's fanbase on gaming....Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, Battlenet, etc.
So SOE was allowed to neuter the game.
And yes, there was an NGE for MxO. Go Google "MxO combat revamp".
ok, so tell me, what did SOE do to the game that made it worse than crap? the combat seemed the same when i returned. It was still the same boring look and feel.
Read above.
The firing of the events team and reducing the dev team to one person certainly had a negative impact on the game, for starters.
Ok, so they removed the live event team from the game. The game wasnt making good enough money to probably keep them. If WB still had the game, it would no longer exist. So SOE bought it, and kept it running w/o the live event team, id say thats better than no game at all. do u still play the game?
Was fun for an afternoon, but yeh soe wtf!! without the live team its just dead..
