i was wondering a few things about this game while i DL the trial.
1)i was wondering kinda what class captin can be compared to (like in EQ or FFXI terms)
2) at what point do u really want to start doing group stuff?(i love group stuff)
3) is there endgame stuff to do yet (ex: raids/land bosses)
4)i hear alot of WoW kiddies come here, is it true and is it like wow already where they shout in caps and stuff? also is the econmy kinda messed up by RMT yet?
Comments
2) You can group all the time if you wish but the first instance for group is in lvl 10 (elves and dwarf, I can't remember humans and hobbits)
3) End game in a MMO?
4) Could be true, but the community still mature
Err.... I don't think I understand what you mean... what the hell does a google search on EQ2/FFXI/LOTRO "gold" to do with maturity of playerbase? Or, even economy?
As someone who actually plays the game regularly, I can safely assure that there are close to none wow capstalk/I33t kidz in LOTRO (can talk about Snowbourn in EU), I don't see any of such crap in the channels. What I can see there as offline talk is players mentioning their wife/kidz most of the time so I'd say the average LOTRO players is much closer to say, 30 in age then, say, 15. Which is good.
As for economy, it is better to check the trial and see how the AH is. Prices are pretty much set and are rarely fluctuating. I can usually sell my stack of ingots/wood relatively at the same price level since months. A lot of players are maxed out, but the game is full of newbs in the same time, so need for low level items is also healthy.
Hope you found this info useful

Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is.

Now, now DB. Didn't you know that you can extrapolate any Google search given the number of hits and deduce an answer to fit your agenga? Heh... you must not have gotten the memo.
See look I'll prove it to you:
"LoTRo" and "gold" = 3,410,000 hits
"EQ2" and "gold" = 971,000 hits
"FFXI" and "gold" = 605,000 hits (this depends on if you use i, I, or 1... I used I)
So, you can clearly see that LoTRo has the most problems with gold sellers... in fact it's a more than 3 times as bad. And to prove that this most definitely works... let's use WoW as well.
"WoW" and "gold" = 10,200,000 hits
See, definitely works. Everyone knows WoW is a gold seller's paradise... so this is most definitely the best method of checking on anything you need info on. It's 100% accurate and can be used for whatever you want information on.
Hmm... I can sense that you are still not convinced. Here let me prove it to you with some more 100% accurate Google searches.
In this one I did WoW, LotRo, and EQ2 with "subscribers". The 100% accurate results are below.
WoW = 628,000
LoTRo = 128,000
EQ2 = 75,900
Hmm... the other 2 might be about right... but somebody needs to tell WoW that they are severely over-stating their subscribers amount!
Still not convinced? Boy, you sure are a fanboi aren't you! Everyone can clearly see these facts. Do you dispute that those figures are not clearly proven by using Google? It's so easy to reproduce... how can you deny the facts? This is not opinion here... it's 100% fact!
O.K. I see you need more convincing to make you see that it's 100% accurate. For this one we will use WoW, LotRo, EQ2, and "fun".
WoW = 8,510,000
LoTRo = 1,360,000
EQ2 = 378,000
See there it works. While LoTRo still has some catching up to do with WoW... it's easily 3 times more fun than EQ2.
Does the inverse work as well? Well, glad you asked.
For this one I did WoW, LoTRo, EQ2, and "boring"
WoW = 1,150,000 (a 13.5% boring factor... remember lower is better here)
LoTRo = 80,400 (a 5.9% boring factor)
EQ2 = 70,300 (a 18.6% boring factor)
So there we have it. Irrefutable Google proof that LoTRo is the most fun (having the smallest boring to fun factor). So... are you convinced now DB?
Well, I hope some of you got a chuckle out of some free time I had. Hopefully the vast majority of the readers saw the folly in putting words together in Google search and then trying to extrapolate any sort of meaning from the number that comes up.
If not, and you've made it this far... I've got one last search for you.
For this one I did WoW, LotRo, EQ2, and "best" "mmo" "ever". Here is the 100% accurate results.
WoW = 232,000
LoTRo= 408,000
EQ2 = 256,000
Huh... perhaps is does work after all.
That is the biggest load of BS I've ever heard That made my day. How very scientifically accurate of you.
Thanks... hopefully you recognized it for the sarcasm that it was intended as.
Dragonace, that was PRICELESS!
Thanks for the laugh!

For this reason if no other, it's good that openedge decides to continue coming back to LotRo. Otherwise we would have missed out on that nice laugh.
What other MMO is so great that even people that can't stand the game continue to play it from time to time and continue to read up and post about it? That truly is a rare MMO indeed!
thanks that helped so much >.>;
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
1) For EQ that would be Paladin. I have never played FFXI.
2) You don't have to group for a very long time and apart from a minor amount of chokepoints in the epic quest (the quest all your characters must take). You can group all you want though but I recommend that you group with people who haven't done the instance quests yet, because joining a player in an instance you have done before is a pain in the neck. Also note that XP rewards from random group exploration, farming, and just chilling out together is very near to zero.
3) A few, two real raids (game is only a year old, more might come along the years). There are other grindable instances for groups of various sizes. End game is spend crafting by a lot of players since rare resources require constant spawn camping.
4) Depends on your WoW realm and your LotRO server. On a general basis I will say that since the community is so much smaller in LotRO and the game difficulty is set so low, you don't get an atmosphere of competition and comparison between various groups (apart from a few hardcore kinships perhaps, but that's mostly on forums). General atmosphere is more relaxed in LotRO in my experience and less vocal.
The RMT filter is not very good in LotRO so the little RMT chat there is will generally reach you. There is no filter of the quality as is available in EQ2 or by one of the add-ons in WoW (LotRO doesn't allow add-ons). This is not a big issue as RMT is mostly an issue in the competitive and large MMOs. Turbine has instead closed off access from certain areas in the world to their servers (caused a bit of controversy since it hit as random as a buckshot but it was more or less remedied later).
Get the trial, fire it up and see if you like the game. No-one is a better judge of the game than yourself.
Good write-up there Yeebo! You are officially nominated as the answer-guy for newbies.

"the quest all your characters must take"
Really? You don't have to do any quests. You could if you wanted to level from 1-50 doing nothing but Deeds and Trait grinding. Not something I'd find fun... but there is no MUST TAKE quest in the game.
" joining a player in an instance you have done before is a pain in the neck"
How so? I've ran through the same quests and instances many, many times to help out new players/kin-members/friends. What is the part you're having trouble with? You do realize that you don't have to use the Reflecting Pool now... right? You just choose Travel Now when the pop-up comes up. Not very difficult at all.
One last thing. You tell him to "Get the trial..." Heh, you did realize that the OP started his post with this: "...while I DL the trial". Seems like he's one step ahead of you.
