Back in the old days it was a know fact that a single griefer is able to ruin a complete server if he only tried hard enough. Back then a PK was bad. Today everyone wants to be a badass. Actually its cool to be a badass killer.

Unless there are no laws and lawenforcers in a game, PvP will always be about mindless killing.

If you kill a person in RL the law is hunting you. You might be able to flee and stay free. But your lifestyle will be limitted. No game i know has any of those mechanics. You can be a PK and the guards wont hunt you and put you in prison. The merchands still will trade with you. Your bank account will be open and the banker wont call the guards if you enter the bank. If you have a house in-game you will be able to live there just like everyone else.

I am still waiting for a game where NPC can be witnesses, where you can go to the guards and file a murder and if 50 people filed a PK he is an outlaw. No city access, no trading with NPC merchands and when the guards capture you, you go to prison for a remakable amout or real life time like 24 hours. And for every new crime the time increases by 6 hours for example.

Just wait for the frigin game and you will find out, calm down.

I can think of only 4 mmorpgs that have pvp anywhere anytime and its still limited and they are f2p games, i dont know of any p2p games that have pvp anywhere anytime,  AoC wont stray too far out of the usual p2p mmorpg.

Does anyone know if PVP will be like Anarchy Online in that you can only attack people in your level range?

    I.E a level 40 cannot attack a lvl 25 and vice versa.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

You HAD to switch?  Nobody HAD to switch...it was totally optional. As I recall, and still is Tram and Fel. You are free to go back n forth as you please. Ppl only switched if they WANTED too....and yes...I would say the majority did. But what makes you think you HAD to move to Tram?

Peer pressure is right enough. I tried to stick it out in Fel, but after playing the game for years my first chance to place a decent home was in Tram. The home wasn't enough for me personally, I could "commute", but most guilds wanted to move out of their crappy small houses and into their brand new castles and towers. From there it was like an avalanche.

Anyone around before and after Trammel has to agree that Fel only had 1/3 or 1/4 the population that Tram had, with less and less people every day. Your guild moved to Tram, so you spent more and more time there.

I know Tram was created for the majority, though I'd argue that space for player housing had a good deal to do with it, but I stand by my arguement that many players were unhappy with the change. Many more wanted this, but changed their mind when they saw how poorly the game became, and an even larger percentage were and are Pro-Trammel...though quit UO a lot sooner than they would have if Trammel had not been created.

This is an old arguement however, and one they very few players have changed their mind about on either side. Personally, when it comes to AoC, I am in full support of PvP FFA outside major cities. I am also for full looting upon death. I feel these make for a better game, and that Open PvP only tends to become a "Gank Fest" when there are more limitations. In UO I was always attackable outside cities but was only attacked by probably 3% of players capable of attacking and killing me. In WoW, with Faction PvP, I was attacked by every player who could attack me and was 5 levels lower than me or higher.

Open PvP seems to breed a "Live and Let Live" policy most of the time.

Right now apparently the FFA pvp server is not truly FFA- it is broken into brackets, 1-20, 21-40, 41-60, 61-80 or something.
