unfortunately, it's very rare to make a party in an hour.. and when they are made they'll want you to stay for a good long while and give at least 30 minutes notice if you're planning on leaving, this game from my experience is based on party etiquette, if you can't dedicate maybe 3-4 hours of time a day to playing you'll find yourself going nowhere fast..
you can be a beast master.. beast masters get a lot of seals solo... so it's well worth levelling to 75, you'll be very rich and very formidable solo(beastman seals and kindred seals will make you a lot of money)
but if you're looking for something you can play for an hour a day play something like WoW :
unfortunately in an hour it's impossible to do anything...
Also summoners can solo decent challenge pretty well with fenrir and a pluto's staff+Yinyang robe
and I've heard Dragoons can solo with some skill and a redmage subjob
Not all of that is true. You can definitely make a party in under an hour. I've done that more than once the last few times I've made one that I can remember (I haven't been exping a lot). You can get away with exping in a party or an hour or two. But yeah, you do need to give notice before you leave. The stuff you're talking about with SMN is kind of over the top. You don't need all of that to solo with SMN, just Carbuncle really. DRG's can solo with any mage sub for the most part. WHM is the best earlier on. RDM might be a better choice later on in the levels. Either way, all jobs can solo to a point, some better than others.
Well this may be possible at level 30... but once you hit about 55 or 60 you'll realize that all you do is sit in Jeuno if you're not a staple of the party's creation(white mage red mage bard paladin ninja ranger)
monks and dragoons will have an exceptionally hard time finding them as well as thieves
If you're going to make your own party if you're lucky you can make one in 15-45 minutes if people are on..
but I've been in parties that have lasted longer than 8 hours.. i think the average party lasts 2-3 hours if it's decent and people don't leave all the time
As for summoner at about 65+ most of the stuff you fight can kill Carbuncle pretty easily-- Fenrir is the second least expensive avatar to keep out and he's much much stronger than Carby, you'll need him for soloing
once you hit a certain level i think 62? carbuncle doesn't become free with carbuncle mitts and light staff alone, you'll need an apollo or a yinyang/vermillion cloak
Carbuncle will die really quickly(even with his healing spell) and you don't always have the option of summoning him back.. If you want to kill a goblin or something strong that is Decent challenge you use Fenrir, if you're soloing too weak like crabs in Kuftal carbuncle's fine... I just keep him out because he's free and he owns for fishing

My wife has gotten invites on your DRG 60+ without even seeking. I know that sounds crazy, but it's happened. But, you can take the initiative and make your own parties. Yeah, people might not always have enough, but it can work out. Yeah, parties can go for a very long time. Sometimes a couple of hours, sometimes 12. It doesn't mean you have to party that whole time though. You're right, 2-3 hours is around the average I think.
The stuff SMN like to solo on are things that blow up themselves like Bombs, Gobs, ect. That's why Carby is usually best to have out. Maybe around 50+ Fenrir is second cheapest (I wouldn't know because I don't have SMN that high), but before then he drains MP like nobodies business. I don't understand how you can't summon Carbuncle back sometimes. Only way you can't is if you just summoned him and he died in one hit and the recast timer isn't up yet. He does have some staying power though from when I've used him 37 and below. I don't need or have any pets to fish with. I don't catch monsters I can't handle anyway.
Anyway, the whole point is, jobs can solo. You can make your own exp parties instead of waiting around for them, and Kujata is a nice server.
