Hello everybody. :>
As my topic says, been playing WoW basically since launch, want to take a bit time off and grab another
MMORPG to have a go at while waiting for Wrath of the Lich King. I'm having a hard time getting a game
that can actually have me stay there for more then a week. I was hopelessly disappointed by
Final Fantasy XI as it was far from what I had expected it to be.
I've tried a lot of the free MMORPGs, some Free trials of the monthly fee ones and most recent was FF XI.
So, what I'd like is a few suggestions of some MMORPG's that you think would be up to the task of keeping
me occupied and having fun while playing thinking as I come from WoW and thought/think it's a great game.
Sincerely, Kris.

You could also try LoTRO. It is similar in gameplay to WoW, but is superior in its story telling. The graphics are amazing and it has a strong community.
Tablua Rasa is completely different than WoW and should be able to keep you busy for a few months.
Really, the only MMORPG I can think of that will keep you busy for more than 6 months is EQ2. All others are pretty old and top heavy, which is fine if you don't mind soloing until the point where everyone else is.
MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW
Currently Playing: WAR
Preferred Playstyle: Roleplay/adventurous, in a sandbox game.
I've tried both EQ2 and Lotro in their free trials, but I suppose that wasn't enough time for me to deem them
worthwhile or not, they had things I liked and things I didn't like.
What I don't want though is : Endless Grinds, undetailed worlds, no purpose except for leveling and buying
new stuff at set levels from shopkeepers, my character is supposed to feel unique and not like a total
copy of another which is at the same level.
edit: Left the posting screen open a bit long to pour up some food for ze dog, a few posts got in between
where I was supposed to reply. Thanks a lot for the info. I suppose I should give EQ2 another try then.
So ur looking for a sandbox game then...well u can jump on the waiting list for Darkfall then, or hopefully Ryzom will go back into service one day.

Good choices so far. If you wait long enough you might even consider Age of Conan. funcom is a good company and is one of the original mmo creators with Anarchy Online. AoC is just over 6 weeks out but that could give you plenty of time to read up on what is known as the NDA is still in effect. Tons of info on it right here.
If you are really immersed in WoW you may just want to go out and see the sun and do some real life activities. Most people that fall in love with an mmo have a hard time trying other's as you can not help but compare and expect a similar (hope for a better) experience. I think change is great and you will not like/like certain things about other games you try, but do try them. Also, i think you can try LoTRO free for 2 weeks? can't go wrong with a free peek. Good luck!
In my opinion, the addition of the new outfit system in LoTRO has gone a long way towards getting rid of the feeling that you character looks just like everyone elses. Of course, you have to hit lvl 20 to get into this.
The LoTRO world is very detailed right now. They have added touches like housing into the game to give it a more lifelike feel. If you haven't played in a while, I suggest you give it another shot now that a few content patches/books have come out.
going from WoW to FFXI is a tottal switch of styles, WoW is much more solo and very much less hardcore, id say either lotro, its essentialy the same idea just more about the story. EQ2 later on gets better, but for me LOTRO was too solo/quest fest (wich i was hoping it be my next MMO) EQ2 is a decent balance but its alot of questing too, the couple drawbacks though are the combat...u constantly just upgrade the same spells/abilitys and basicly spam the macros for dmg (thats the main reason i left) and the other things are the age kinda and graphics were kinda odd for needing such a good setup to run it high.
honestly just stick to WoW or play some console games til games like WAR(stoked for) and AoC.
My favorite game was Ryzom ....
Now i play LOTRO and i'm happy with it. You should try it.
mess around in guildwars. It's a great waiting game since you can go to it whenever you want and not need to worry about maintaining a bill or starting up billing yet again to play it. The enviroments are pretty unique in a lot of areas, and probably the best story mode(s) out of MMOs. Should keep you occupied for a couple of months as long as you don't go grindzors through it like soo many people try to(it is perfectly possible to finish a main quest in a weekend if you really wanted to, but pretty pointless).
A lot of the enviroments are more inspired than the entirity of an EQ expansion(that doesn't say much though), and each expansion has a few different enviroments to it.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
I recommend playing GuildWars if you havent yet
all the other choices people have stated here are good -- EQ2, LOTRO, and the others
