How would this system fair with the new games coming out this year? Also does it look like a good deal?

The only things I have an issue with are the cpu and video card. I would try to get something with a 6400+ and instead of the 9600gt I would get an 8800gt they don't cost much more but run a lot faster.

If you're short on cash and can't afford to get both then keep the 5400+ and go with the 8800gt you will notice more of a performance gain with that as opposed to the 6400+ with the 9600gt.

Theres no way that the RAM is worth $70, you can pick up 2 gigs of g. skill on newegg for $35.

The processor can also be found on newegg for $78 (Note - Being an OEM version you will have to buy a cooler).

Budget is somewhat up in the air. I would like to spend closer to 500 then 700.

Im not really looking for the best of the best out there. I dont HAVE to play the new games, like AOC or AION, on the highest graphics level but i would like to play them at medium high with good performance. Im really just looking for what i need right now, and something that i will be able to upgrade easily later. I dont need a Q6600 with a 8800 GTX and 8G of memory.

I have never built a computer before but i see that it is alot cheaper then buying one from a dealer, even dealers like ibuypower. I also figure i can use the HD and DVDRom from my old system for now, even though they are a bit old. 

I pretty much just need a good (but not GREAT) case, looking for a AMD X2 processor with atleast 2.8, 2G of Ram since i will be using XP, a good upgradable MB and a upper mid range Video card. That is why i went with the 9600 GT, i see that it isnt that far below a 8800 GT in performance. But i have also seen that the 8800 GT has come down and i can actually get one for only $20 more then the 9600 so that is probably and upgrade i would like to make.

I was looking at the barebones kits because i figured the people who put them together knew alot more then i do.

RAM - G. Skill 2x1gb DDR2 800 - $45

Graphics - EVGA 9600GT 512mb - $150

Case - Your Choice - ~$80

PSU - Corsair 450vx - $85

Comes out to about $570. I chose the 9600GT because if you feel that you want a little more graphics power, EVGA allows you to step up your card within 90 days of purchase.

EDIT - Doh, I feel stupid, I forgot the power supply lol and I just remembered you don't need a hard drive or dvd drive.

how blind and ignorant you are.. 8800 are dead.. gone forgoten.. kaput forget it.., ppl still keep talking about 8800 gtx 640gts and ultra.. those cards are so old.. with old technology . new counterpars were released. yet they still holding back.. on that old expensive slow crap

 

9800gtx was released.. cheaper than ultra.. same as gts/gtx.. faster .

 

8800 gt beats 9600 by 10% god thats so alot.. 9600 scales in sli so much better than 8800.. 8800 in sli is waste of money , show me where 8800 sli beats 9600... nowhere you wont fine single review with that..

9600 drivers are still young.. each new driver increase it performance.. latest was resleased what. 2 days ago.. with 10x increased performance.. so maybe 9600 is better now even..

i rly hate how ppl ppl at 9600 as mid rage craptastic card. which is not

not to mention it overlocks better than 8800, cost less.. use less power. have new features for hd movies and such..and beats 8800 in sli.. which is main point in geting it..

do some research, 9600 gt in sli are best cards after 9800gtx2 ,which beats them sadly by about 10-20% in some cases.. yet cost twice..

Dude, the 8800s are far from being dead at the moment. The 9800GTX is nothing more than an overclocked 8800GTS with Tri-SLi capability.

I don't think hes planning for SLI either, so yea the 8800GT > 9600GT and he shouldn't with his budget, but he can always start with an EVGA 9600GT and step up if he feels the need.

You need to relax, these forums are here for people to seek help, not get yelled at for not being 100% up to date with hardware.

lets look.. 8800gt is about 5-10% faster,

8800gt consume more power, cost more. sli scaling is about 20-25%

now 9600gt is cheaper, overclocks much better, scales in sli 40-60%,  uses less power, have new video watching features( dont recall exact name ),  still might be not working at full strenght, latest  drivers were released last weeek, which increased dx10 performance

 

so tell me how is 8800gt better than 9600, its not.. its not anywhere close to better if you plan to upgrade in future,

9800gtx . ye boofed up pile of gizmo from nvidia. who keeps releasing old cards with new names.. ye nvidia is sleeping and wanking yet

9800gtx cost 10-15% more than 512 gts.. and 20-30% less than gtx... lets not even compare to ultra..

 

yet it outperform all of those, and cost less..

its simple choise. you want single high end card. you get 9800gtx, you want best performance for your money you get 9600gt 2x in sli, you want good cheap gaming card you get 9600.

The 9800GTX costs more than 10-15% of the 8800GTS. I see the cheapest 9800GTX at $300 on newegg, whereas the 8800GTS 512mb I see for $230 (and as low as $200 after rebate). Thats quite a difference, when essentially the 9800GTX is only a 8800GTS overclocked some.

Overall, I don't consider a $70+ price difference worth the small performance gain, especially when you can just overclock the card yourself. Not that I'd recommend either card to the OP anyways, since it is a bit out of his budget, but within 90 days of his purchase if he so chooses he can step up to the 8800GTS or another stronger card.

Try to argue people's points, not blow up at them. Sure if you think a person is giving bad advice, say something, but don't scream it.
