    Sure, captain is cool.

Is a good buff-bot, a good healer, and a good figher. Can do decent DPS, and save your ass with his heals.

Is more liek a "cleric" class than anything, you know, the cleric class types that wear fullplate and are more about fight than heal.

But as most hybrid class, need to be played by a good players, else.. I guest will suck more than eveyrhting else.

    I myself play a Champion.

In PvP is slghty gimped, but still usefull.  Feel like a weak tank (I am warg).

Captains have THE best Critical Hit damages I believe.  Also, you'll probably want to use a two handed sword or halberds.

Captains are a very strong class, not so much on their own, but they help their fellowship enormously.

They can heal, buff, and even summon at later levels.

The one thing you have to remember, that will be very different from a WoW Paladin, is the Captain is a pet class.  A lot of your buffs / damage come from your Banner carrier (pet) - so you will have to constantly manage this guy  as well.

Totall - They are GREAT for Fellowships and thankfully not as common as HUNTERS who are a dime a dozen  so if you plan on fellowing a lot, captain is pretty awesome.  Solo play, they do well but aren't the best.  They're kind of like the 'Jack of All Trades' to an extent.

It's hard to compare a captain to other MMO classes, because AFAIK, there isn't a direct parallel.

Captains have awesome buffs, but they do not fill a main healer role unless yu're doing fairly trivialized content.  They have a moderate HOT and a decent heal that they can do after defeating an enemy.  Basically this makes them great support healers.

They also get pet.  Captain is a sweet class.  If you thing it's something you would enjoy, then you should have few reservations about playing one.

LOTRO- Guardian Wrymstrum & Lore-master Stabler on Nimrodel.

Conan- Zoltar <Angels of Death> Guardian on Stormrage.

If you decide to play a captain, look into having a tailor make you a new banner as soon as possible (I think you can start using them at 20, maybe sooner).  Unless you like having a creepy looking guy with a beard as your pet.  I didn't like being alone in the woods with him when I played a captain

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

so funny. I remember that friar guy, I think he tried to touch me once while I wasn't looking. I liked the Captain class, got one to level 32 before I bailed. Playing a Hunter, now and enjoying him , as well.

As Did I. The Cap was a pretty fun class to play if you like being able to change roles or help on a team. Solo, they don't kill too fast, but are safe if you fight appropriate mobs. I liked my Cap best for sure, and teams always loved seeing you, unless they already had one, hehe.

Capts really kind of are the jack of all trade class and don't really have a defined role.   As a good capt you can fill in where your group may be lacking or emphasize the strenght of your group.   Its also one of the least played classes due to it being available to only men.

You sure about it only available to men? Got to try that out.

My main is a level 49 captain on the European RP server and here's my take on the class.

The captain has two roles in the game: providing support and having a good deal of versatility. Whether you like these two aspects I cannot say but you should be aware of these roles because otherwise you will be disappointed with the class. It all depends on your play style.

    Solo:

The captain is okay to solo with, but every class in LotRO is and most classes are soloing better than the captain, either by killing mobs much faster (captains are slow killers) or by being able to solo harder mobs.

    Small group:

Here's where the captain shines, his buffs make a difference and his versatility means that he can fill the gaps and play any role that the group misses, be it tank, dps, healer or even a bit of crowd control (with his pet). The only thing that is completely absent for a captain is ranged damage.

    Full group (and raids):

Groups want you because you have nice buffs. Unfortunately in a full group there's little else to do but to buff your group because everything else you do other classes can do much better. You have a few unique skills that can safe the whole group from a near-certain wipe if things go wrong, you have an in-combat revive and you can provide a fear-buff. But that's about it, you're buffer and support. Raid leaders might even ask you NOT to use any of your combat-skills during a raid in order for you to preserve power so that you can step in with your special skills if things go wrong.

If you want to group a lot, choose captain.  It's the only class i got to 50 and played daily, my other alts were only lvls 15 and 16.

Only race of MAN can be a Captain too.

Yes Woman can be Captains (my wife has a level 35ish one).  The statement is "Race of man" not male characters.

    Hunters nuke

    Champion   AOE, aux dps

    Loremaster  CC and nuke.

    Captain support (heal, buff, dps)

    Burglar debuffing

    Guardian tank

    Minstrel healer

Theres some hybrid skills for all classes... seems all clases can self-health (maybe to boost game soloability),  and all clases can do some interesting DPS (but burglars, that suck).

On PVP is hard to kill the Minstrel, the Guardian, and horrible painfull the Loremaster. And the hunter has this ability to teleport home, that make then un-killable.

I'd highly recommend playing a captain. I've found the captain to be a delight to play, but I love the support role. I can't tell you how many times I've saved a group from a wipe without anybody really noticing what happened. But that's a good thing. They were focused on their role, and me mine, and everything worked out just fine.

There are a couple weaknesses thought. First, we're slow to kill things, but we can take some punishment. Not as fast as a champ or hunter but not as beefy as a guardian. The second weakness is in groups - you cannot support lower level players well through group content. You don't have the healing ability, and your higher dps and surviability will make you a target. Unfortunately, you're best survival skills require you to not be the target (i.e. the rezes and last stand/in harms way/strength of moral combo).
