I wanted a certain Hykanian Shield Maiden class with flame red hair and chastity vows who would drive her enemy's before her and hear the laments of their bruised masculine egos.
I guess I will have to settle with a certain jealous and superstitious Cimmerian's kid sister Bear Shaman.
Been thinking about how many "Mordec's" will be out there claiming to be Conan's Sire, Blacksmithing away in the rock quarry.
If the *unofficial* beta journals are to be trusted the Ranger appears to be the BOOM-headshot FOTM class as of now with other clases progressively less useful/played. So Ranger will be the class I am playing at release.

Where are you reading these Unofficial Beta journals?
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.
I like all of the mage classes really. Also the Set looks pretty fun. I am not sure though I will just have to try them all out. I would prefer Demonologist over Ranger for ranged combat though. Maybe I will try that first.
Looks like a single me (Dark Templar) is going to be leading a whole bunch of Conquerers and Bear Shamans into battle lol. So far I'm still the only one who has his heart fully set on playing the DT Cheers to being different!
That's just because I read some info about it from some beta players saying the class needs still some tweaking. And having many options like shield, heavy armor and lifetapping abilities might seem good stuff. But eventually raiding and good groups are made of classes that have distinct and clear purposes. Like a damage dealer, healer and a tank. Being a class with a shield but not as many options as a guardian might have with shields is one point less. Being a heavy plated warrior wanting armor pieces like the main tank (guardians) might give you less chance on getting some, another point less. Lifetapping abilities nice and dandy but how well will they do versus bosses? I bet they'll resist quite some, another point less.
So yes it can be a very good class for some people but can also be a left out class for others. Then again for each class is something to be said about. Just wanted my view on why I swapped from Dark Templar to some other class (cause I picked it as my first option as well).
You have good points, as far as end game content requiring classes who serve one true purpose. From my own experiences in other games, this is very true. However, I've never truely been one to get all excited over end game content. Yeah, no doubt that it's nice and very beneficial, but I'm more of an end game PvP'er. Besides, raid groups are going to have to accept Dark Templars anyway (as in, making a purpose for their being) to give those who love the class a chance to participate in obtaining the good stuff at the end. Basically, the Dark Templar's downfall (as you stated) doesn't bother me too much due to my taste of gameplay. I guess the class just fits me to the "T" Survivability and PvP ownage ftw!
In pretty much every game that I've played, the clearcut tank/healer/dps classes have always been the best option for PvE. But when you talk about PvP, specifically smaller scale battles and such, the characters with the most utilities have the advantage. In a PvP situation, you can easily find yourself out of range of your healer. In which case it's important that you have your own methods of keeping yourself alive.
If i do end up picking this game up, I will most likely start as a Herald of Xotli or a Tempest of Set. I generally found well played healer hybrid characters to be very powerful in most games.
I will be a barb, guard, conquer, im not going to be some sissy wear a dress(mages/casters).Casters better not be godlike like they are in every other mmo.

You have a good point. I don't like to "rely" on anything but my own abilities when I'm looking to take someone out.
Honestly, I don't really really know at the moment. I know one thing I will start off trying out probably the Rogue class because I have always loved playing the assassin. I will also try the Mage to start I love casting. I am sure at one point I will try almost all of them I hate Shamans always have.

Herald of Xotli for me or Necro. Probably Assassin after. But most of the classes sound interesting. Probably can't go wrong with whatever you choose.
Probably one of the Rogue Archetypes but I'm honestly not sure at the moment. I'm just going to see what I like when I start playing.
Bear Shaman or PoM. Healer ftw!

FUNCOM - putting the FUN in disFUNctional !
Stygian Herald of Xotli or an Aquilonian Barbarian.
Still haven't decided.

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
Better call them "outdated" or "obsolete". More so since yesterday.

The predator lookalike.
Going to start off as a conqueror then after i hit lvl 80 ill make a mage idk what kind yet though
Let's keep it coming folks! I love all these great opinions:
What class do you want to be and why?
Now i'm leaning towards Ranger. I'd have to make a melee alt though...
Stygian Herald of Xotli or Aquilonian Dark Templar as main depends which one turns out to be more fun. the other will be alt.
I am also considering Demonologist.
HoX, looks fun but I've got my doubts how this class will play out.
Backup plan, Barb or Assassin
Wanna try ToS too.

I would love make a priest of Mitra but !! maybe its not good idea to do it for my first class.
So I might actually make a Barbarian or a ranger its safer , I'm still thinking but Dps class for sure.
