I Hope Conan "Lore Nazis" Don't Ruin FUN

Every MMO has them, the people who care more about the correct "lore" of the game than playing or having fun with the game itself.

Or when a certain class gets new spells, they complain because in "the lore" that class would never have x spell, or this race would never have y etc.

The Conan lore is over 70 years old, and many people will probably be nitpicking the incorrect and inaccurate lore in Age of Conan on release.

I just hope we all remember to have FUN and not focus on stupid lore for lore sake!

cheers

haha, reminds me of LoTR movies.

But I don't think it will be a problem. Just pitty them.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, WoW's storyline was (and continues to be) an absolute disgrace to the Warcraft series, it's simply retarded and makes no sense. However I don't remember anyone ever complaining about the lore very much. I played the game oblivious to the lore, it didn't mean much to me.

I realise AoC's IP is quite old and has a number of fans but the reality is "Lore Nazis" are few and far between and they're voice won't have much impact. I bet the majority of AoC players will never have even picked up a Conan book, myself included.

I believe there is a simple soloution, don't read thier threads on the forums and play on a PvP server. I'll be on an RP-PvP server myself, any lore police get on my nerves and just note the name and get a group of guys together and exact some revenge.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Don't think it will be a worry , its nowhere near the heights that the lotro lore guys reached :)

The lore nazis are usually not the problem imo.  It's the Rp nazis who argue in general chat on Rp servers on what their expectation and definition of Rp'ing is all day long.  That is what makes me sick.

If it's not lore accurate, than it's not quite Conan now is it? I hope none of you ever join RP servers.

I hope you never join a non-rp server.

Trust me, I'll steer clear of those.

I don't know if this makes me a "Lore Nazi" but I could live without seeing a flood of stupid ass character names.

I would really prefer not to enter AoC to be greeted by the likes of "Ipwnuall", "Chuuk Noriss", "Lego Lass" "Artoo Deeto" ect, ect ad nauseam.

Given the breadth of the lore, I don't know how anyone could lay claim to being arbiter to the entire Conan canon. Now that I say that out loud though... I'm imagining just how messy it could get. No, I don't think I'll go any where near an RP server (unless they have totally unrestricted pvp and full looting rights).

One thing that will probably cause alot of problems are the people who are going to base the lore off the movies and have never read any of the books/comics.  That should prove to be interesting to say the least.  I wonder how many Austrian (or attempts at Austrian) accents will be flooding the various voice chats in the first week?

Ya!!!! Keep them "Lore Nazis" out of this game by gawd!!!

This game will be kick ass when they add space aliens, flying cars, and gnomes!!!!! I can't wait!!!!

I don't really see how "Lore nazis" can ruin the game for you. They've always been a very small group in all the MMOs I've played so far.

Having said that, I'm the kind of player that plays on RP servers and expects people to stay at least somewhat close to the lore. But hey, that's what RP servers are for right? People shouldn't be playing Space Marines on RP servers, just as they shouldn't be complaining about "breaking the immersion" on normal servers.

We have different servers for different people. I really don't see a problem.

Don't worry the lore mongers will be on a RP-PvP server, me too. I love Howard's work, have read all of the stories and enjoyed them. But I don't really see why "lore nazis" would ruin the game. I mean I don't think people would send you PMs telling you why the fuck there is a gnome which can cast. Just ignore lore posts, the one who would cause a problem is the one who reacts to those posts.

Btw, FunCom should really have listened more to the lore experts back then. The normal players don't care about the lore, whether it's correct or not, but it was important for the fans of Howard, that it's a little more faithful to the lore than the Conan movies, but we'll see...

I totally agree with you. For me, lore is an important part of the game and adds fun... but like you said, the lore fanatics do sometimes make the game a bit less fun.

Im sure people have different opinions, and I dont mean to offend anyone.

as long as they dont introduce stupid races (like elves) and deal with ANY characters they stick in from the book carefully then they are fine.  AoC lore is not very demanding compared to most other games.  the only real problem is it takes place over Conans life and so things change as the series moves on,  most other games have Lore that is set at one particular point and dont stray too far from this.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
