champions P&P question

If I recall, champions was the superhero game that had many characters on small cards. You built your character from lists of potential powers, but you had to have a drawback. It was a very classic superhero style game straight from the comics. This would have been around 20 years ago. Am I thinking of the right game?

I personally enjoyed Heroes/TMNT/N&SS over champions. Before I that I was in to Gamma World and D&D (basic and then 2nd edition). I would say the most memorable games came from Heroes/TMNT/N&SS (and later villains).

so...

I don't remember any small cards or drawbacks.

But I never really played it much, just created a few enjoyable characters.

The Gurps supers game uses drawbacks, (although again I've never used any cards), I played that one quite a bit.

Havent looked at it for a long long time, but I believe the original Champions used the Hero system, which was one of the first systems to use a point based character creation system I think..?

I seem to remember the basic idea was that you started with a pool of points, to which you could add to by taking certain flaws, vulnerbilities, dependant NPCs, and whatever to buy your skills and powers...

I only played the original edition of GURPs (mainly for the Car Wars and Horse Clans source books), but I remember thinking then it's system was a huge rip off of the Hero system in a lot of ways. Had some fun with it though I admit.

I don't remember any small cards, unless you mean the cardboard stand up counters some used in place of minis? I know Steve Jackson Games put out a stack of these (Cardboard Heroes?) that you used with a plastic base as a cheap alternative.

Actually, the one clear memory I do have of this system was the algebra when working out elemental power groups (god, that one came back through time to me just then...   ) and whatever... It's probably a good thing we have a PC on side this time
