The Chicken Little Syndrome

Everyone is guilty of it at some point...but lately it seems to be a horrible epidemic of misinformation both good and bad going around.   This misinformation of course turns us all against each other and then the 'troll' or 'fanboi' titles get tossed around.   

MMORPG.com's forums seem to be heavily filled with these chicken littles running around screaming the sky is falling because the Game Plays like WoW...because it has Quests or  Its going to suck because it offers No PvE content.  Obvious flat out lies or completely made up assumptions based on old or even fake information thats gone around. 

Admittedly many of us, my self included sometimes,  get whipped up into a troll burning frenzy when we see these horrible lies, assumptions, and misinformation get passed around and we address it.  For the sake of sanity...I'm glad I'm not the only one who's become increasingly frustrated by the frenzy inducing the sky is falling cries.

If you don't like WAR because its just not the type of game for you due to it not being FFA or non skilled based I have no issue with you.   Though I feel your missing out by not atleast attempting to gleam a little bit of information on what the game is designed for and trying it out or atleast taking a look at how actually robust the character system is.   Eitherway ... live long and prosper .... for everyone else running around screaming THERES" NO PVE! OH MY GOD THE WORLD IS OVER!! or THERE"S RAIDS its just like WOW! ...read the above article do some research and be constructive for once..because there's tons of PvE and no WoW style Tiered raiding system (thank the heavens!).

Anyway im done with my ... please stop posting unconstructive BS lies & misinformation rant Im sure there'll be plenty more in the future thats what MMORPG.com is for after all.

Misinformation because so much information is spread over too many places maybe? Sure it won't be the only reason but for it, but having to visit so many sites to see the new vids/dev comments gets tiring pretty fast. Their european site is shit,  so not many use it and have to go looking around for information on fan forums which might be outdated since there's no way of knowing where all the latest updates are. Maybe an official forum would help?

Misinformation because people lack the ability to watch pod casts and read news letters every bit of information thats on a 3rd party site is available on WarhammerOnline.  Some people don't honestly care and others enjoy spreading Misinformation purely to stir up the crap.

Not to mention some people just see someone 'discussing' or asking something and assume whatever random X answer out of 100 is the one to go with.  

 

btw if i see one more stupid troll post on official forums im going to scream.

Then there is also the pet agenda people.   Any thread you can post in is a great place to push push push your little pet issue.

Why don't people try DAoC before screaming that this is a "WoW Clone"? DAoC is the foundation this game is built upon and is the only thing we should really reference in any kind of relation to WAR. I myself took up the 14 day trial and have been enjoying it and learning the way RvR is structured. I know WAR isn't identical, I wouldn't expect it to be, but just from trying DAoC I can say with confidence that aside from being an auto-attack adventure game it won't be much like WoW. Unfortunately there aren't many low level players doing RvR in DAoC at the moment so I couldn't actually fight another player in a fair fight, but I did find the entire system to be engaging and love the idea that I won't have to grind quests, gear, or coin in order to make it to max level and begin having fun.

Well, if my post counts as a troll post on the official forum topic then what exactly are these forums for? A post that explains one possibility (with reasons why) the problem you mentioned has arrises is hardly a troll one.

There are people in the world who can weigh the current information available to them and make an educated guess as to how those things will make it into the final product.  They have an understanding of both the gamer's mind and that of the developer.  They are familiar with the history of each member of the development team.  They have knowledge of the MMORPG industry.  They hear what has been discussed by the developers and are able to see ways to exploit those mechanics to their advantage even before they are able to play the game.  You come across these people sometimes while playing MMORPGs and walk away a better player.

WAR is not a radical new concept - it is not a bold step forward in the world of MMORPGs it is a rehashing of everything that has gone before it with somethings taken away and new bits added on.  It is not hard for the above people to see how the game will play out.

Consider these people to be "MMORPG meteorologists" what they say may sometimes be dead wrong but more often they are somewhat correct; maybe it didn't rain but it was cloudy for most of the day.

For the record, I am not one of these people, but I can recognize thier brilliance and listen when they speak without feeling jealosy or anger towards them or their ability.

If a person such as I've illustrated above says "the sky is falling" I would advise you to at least tilt your head up.

I dont consider the person you described Wickersham as a chicken little...there's nothing wrong with discussing and logically or constructively forming opinions on things we know.   Me and the article writer are talking about the ...people who look at 1 post and start flaming without any sort of look actually into the depth of the matter.  You can't deny that these people exist  they do and they've been completely on a rampage this past month.  Its disheartening and a pain in the ass to constantly filter through those crap posts to pay attention to a subject of a thread.

People who decry there's No PvE, or no this or this is wrong or this is a lie without actually seeing the issue addressed in depth or even researching into all thats being offered in the media create the chicken little affect.  Those people should be shot  

Oh and trolls that keep up lil pet peeve projects that use every single thread they can get their hands on to bring it up basically hijacking a thread just suck

LoL if your in the States and on an open pvp server we're bound to see each other Urmaker...I love how being er...not shy about arguing gets me haters and people who like me...the world is such a crazy place we live in rofl though it appears the poll is 66% in my favor lol.  Maybe I should vote against myself!!  Can we add ElvenAngel is a bitch on there?  I mean I've never denied I can be a bitch when I get fired up.
