I was just curious what view people are going to play WAR in. If I end up on an RP server I'll probably play first person, but if it sucks I'll probably go third again. I always tend to find the world looking bigger and more immersive if I play in first person.

3rd person..i cant stand first
Playing in first person in MMOs always has too much of a disadvantage. Sure it is fun once in while to take in the sights but when it comes to actually fighting you're putting a handicap on yourself by limiting your field of vision.
Games I've Played: WoW, FFXI, SWG, CoH, EVE Online
Games I'm Waiting for: WAR, Stargate Worlds
From a practical gameplay perspective I believe you really need to play in 3rd person, especially in PvP. Someone tries to sneak up behind you but you're in first person so all you can see is one direction. Turn around to look behind you, and someone hits you from the side, ect. I like 3rd person as well because I like to see my char, see the changes in apperance and see the animations and effects that the company worked hard to develop.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

I only play in 1st person.
3rd person for me feels like I am watching someone run through the game world.
1st person feels like I am in the game world.
3rd person gives more ability to see what's going on as well as that's what I'm used to. I'll only play in first person when you can see as wide as you can in reality.
^ Even when admiring the scenery I usually like 3rd person.
I'll be in 3rd person.....first person is ok but it leaves you open to blind spots since you have to remember to 'turn your head' lol
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
I started off hot and heavy in the first person shooter genre, so I was very used to that perspective. But playing MMO's, I quickly learned the advantages of playing third person, especially in combat.
Also as a roleplayer, seeing my character is a visual reminder for me to stay in character. It's fun dressing up my character too. I like to look my best
I agree, and I also think it has to do with everyone else being in 3rd person while you are in 1st person. In FPS games it works because everyone is in 1st player perspective but when you mix some people with and some people without it becomes a major disadvantage.
Like trying to play a FPS with a joystick lol!
Don't confuse a players ability, with a class being Over Powered.

I often play in third person view, but a couple of weeks ago I tried to play LotRO a whole session in first person view. What can I say... wow! It felt like a whole new game. The fights felt so more intense when you actually did see the whole group up close fighting. The big monsters felt so much more intimidating.
Sadly it also feels like you character looking at the world thru a window. Feels too stale, like Frankenstein you got to turn your whole body to look to your sides. It isnt playable in the long run. The overview for adds and aggro also gets messed up. I would love to play a mmorpg in in first person view, but the disvantage is to big.
I liked in SWG when you could set your field of view(this maybe is possible in LotRO too..I dont know). I think the default for the FoW in SWG was like 60 degrees. I dont really remember how much I raised it, but it was so I got a much more peripheral vision, maybe 85-100 degrees.. If you raise it to max(was it 180 degrees?) then the view got just plain weird. I often played whole sessions in first player view in SWG, one thing that was bad was that it felt too smooth when you run around, like you just glide through the world.
Like other said here I will play WAR in third player view and for the great landscape views I will go into first person.
The Second Day Vet
only good mmo with 1st person view was eq when i played that game and i seen my sword slash my foe my foot going up and kicking them well i was hooked on that game, it was rare i would go in 3rd but most mmo now don't show any animation of your character in 1st. Vangard has a good 1st person view and you can change it so you dont see the animation so i love that game for giving me the options to have 2 types of 1st person views why other games don't i have no idea, is it that hard to past a cam in the head of a character? well i just hope that MMo in the future will give there player more options then just 1 view
I agree totally. EQ definately had the best 1st person view of the other MMOs. I'll probably end up doing 1st person in PvE (if the view doesn't suck ) and 3rd in PvP. Then again things can change and I may end up playing 3rd the whole time.
