PvP vs RP Pvp...

id like to ask what will be your decision.....will u play on a rp-pvp or a pvp server?

Actually what will be their main difference ? Will funcom provide some extra features on rp pvp servers,or everything will be determined on rp players themselves?

You are banished if you slip outta character on the RP server.

I am still unaware of the major differences myself. The people over at Funcom haven't really discussed much about how their servers are going to work yet, just a bunch of tiny tidbits. I'm aware that there are different naming policies for the RP-PVP server, vice-versa the regular PVP server.

My assumption of what the game is trying to introduce to PvP with the RP-PVP servers is chivalry, something not too familiar to standard MMORPG PVP play. For example, in Border Kingdoms, you see two people in the distance. They are fighting. According to chivalry, you would not interfere and let the best man win. Let's take it into the games perspective; say you're max level, and you run into someone of much lower level than you. It would be considered unchivalry to kill that person just for shits and giggles (although, I honestly admit, I have done the same in previous games that I've played). My guess for the main differences between the two different types of servers are that you get PvP debuffs for performing unchivalry acts in the RP-PVP server while the regular PVP servers consider "all is fair in war". I can imagine the RP-PVP servers starting out as the more popular servers....

From what has been said so far, the only difference between these two, will be a different ruleset. That means a Code of COnduct will be implemented on RP PvP Servers, most likely there to enforce In Character behaviour and such things.

We'll see how well FunCom implements that and how well it is actually enforced. By well, I do not mean how -strict- but how sensible GM's will be and how-present- they will be on the RP PvP servers.

In general there usually aren't any additional features in RP servers.  As stated naming policies are more strictly enforced as well as a few other things that I can't think of right now.  Also people generally expect you to chat as though you are your charcter.  It depends upon the server and game but generally things like "OMG I just pwned that noob" would not be looked upon well at all on an RP server.  Some guilds on RP servers will strictly enforce staying in character as much as possible.  I have found sometimes roleplaying can be a lot of fun, but if you are not used to doing it then it can seem like a lot of work.  RP servers also sometimes tend to have more mature players, but sometimes you will also get 13 year old idiots looking to cyborz...  Essentially if you really aren't looking to roleplay your character, then I'm sure the RPers would appreciate that you just roll on a PvP server, but feel free to do whatever you want you are paying for your subscription.

The best you can get is name enforcing.

Never , ever ,ever ,ever - was a player banished for any MMO in known existence for not roleplaying

Basicaly it will be just another gank server , with no "Ipwnu" and "Drizzt" names

    Forget about any roleplay there

I really hope that they release more details soon as I am definitely interested in playing on the RP-PvP servers.

What exactly has been said so far? Have Funcom indicated whether the different rulesets will mainly consist of  'Chat Channel Restrictions' or might they actually try to monitor anti-social behaviour?

The game looks great & if they had decent 'RP Servers' as well it would be brilliant!

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

You are so wrong lobo, there will be plenty of RP to be found if you look for it, I myself will be RP-ing as much as possible on the rp-pvp server along with most of my kinship from lotro rp server(we have near 100 active members), and i know of many more rp-kinships moving over to AoC rp-pvp server once it comes out and we have already set up plans for rp events, rp battles and such forth, well at least for the 1st few months at least, if the server degenerates into a gank server then the rp'ers will move on, simple really.

Mate ... we are in same kinship

Then why say no rp when you know there will be?

  • LobotomistLobotomist Member EpicPosts: 5,981

Well. Yes... Our guild will be there. And it is a large group of excellent roleplayers. So there will be roleplay.

Still what I am saying - It apsolutely certain that there will be no RP enforcement other than - name policy.

And unfortunately  free form PVP servers = gank free zone. To make it even worse RP-PVP just means more joy for gankers , since some of nerdy "roleplayers" with no l33t skillz will play there ripe for pickings.

I do not harbor same illusions that Funcom will do anything to prevent ganking of roleplayers on FFA PVP servers

I said it before on our forums ,It is a mistake for us to choose rp-pvp server. We would be much better of on PVE server - bringing RP where it belongs , without distractions

But since we agreed upon it , we will give our best to bring RP atmosphere - so help us Krom

Funcom and the Community will manage RP servers.

The Hyborian Accord has been set up a while now, you can almost guarentee alot of RP servers will have RP players on them. Quite a few guilds have signed up to the agreement.

1 of the things I always find amusing is when people think there wont be ganking on rp-Pvp servers.

Please understand that as long as you stay in character while ganking, or being ganked, your still roleplaying.

Im saying this for peoples own good. Many equate roleplaying with being "good" and that just isnt the case. If your on a RP-PVP server be prepared to be ganked just as much if not more than on any other server.

Im not saying I will be a ganker, im just saying it will happen to you, to me , to everyone. The "RP" tag has nothing to do with ganking.

Not sure but I'm going to be on the PVE server

    Yes I'm a big chicken

I seen this behavior on certain NWN  PVP-RP servers. You had to stay in character , so gankers claimed they play psychotic murderers. For some strange reason their RP revolved around killing victims many levels below them

Yep thats kind of my point. Anyone who is at all familiar with Conan's lore knows that essentially almost everyone is a bad guy in 1 way or another. The nature of this world is 1 that almost asks us to fight each other.Unlike others your not JUST battling evil in this game, your battling everyone.

Its well within roleplaying rules to play as a murderer or hijacker.

The best example of this I have ever seen was in UO. A group of people dressed up as Orcs, spoke funny "orcish" chat, and hung out at the main orc fort near the main road. They were GREAT. They always made me laugh, they always stayed in character. They also always robbed  innocents who passed by thier fort. They would demand tribute in "shinies"(aka gold.) Anyone who refused was attacked, and anyone who ran was attacked, anyone whos tribue was insulting was attacked. Occasionally, if people messed with them enough they would just attack on sight. They also didnt care for magic users and attacked anyone casting on sight.

They roleplayed. They ganked. They were awesome.

Sneaking up on someone and attacking them when they are unaware or even zerging them with an overwhelming force.

Probably just plain PvP. I'm not a big fan of RP. It's just not my thing.

It really all depends on the server rules, though. Without more information it's hard to make a decision.

so ok .. attacking someone who is unaware has a negative connotation when you are looking at the roleplaying "fun" on a server? what would be the appropriate thing to do then as not to be labeled a ganker?

should you send them a tell letting them know your about to kill them? wait for them to hit you first?

now zerging also has multiple meanings .. depending on the game .. some might call dying and rushing back to the fight over and over again zerging .. you describe using several differant characters to fight someone as zerging

in your instance how is it negative to attack someone with superior numbers?  it is pvp right? if you run across a solo person with  group of your friends should you all stand there while that person duels each one of you?

now I understand there is some etiquette to group vs solo .. ive played eq2 pvp since those servers opened and back in the day some of us wouldn't attack soloers if we were in a group .. but you know what .. those same people you spare almost always jump on the area channel and announce your presence and direction and numbers .. so why shouldn't you at least kill them and get something in exchange for their spreading the intelligience about your group ..

i just think that some of the terms and their usages here are commonly misinterpreted and hodge podged together

    *shrugs*
