Guild Wars? Vanguard?

malfactomalfacto Member Posts: 4

I am looking to get into a new online game.  I have played EQ and WoW to the end and am just looking for a new start.  I want something that is nice to look at (graphics) and fun to play (not a huge grinding session).  I am looking at Guild Wars and Vanguard now and possibly EQ2.

Any suggestions here regarding soloing, lag, player age?  Also, with Guild Wars, is any one of them better to start out with?

I would go GW. Hardly any grind, awesome PvP and PvE. Huge player population, and good graphics but not too system-intesive.

VG is a bit more complex with better graphics, but like I said, GW has way bigger population and imo better PvP.

Vanguard was better in the open beta then it was on release, and maybe then it is now. As far as i can tell, its only gotten more boring and uninovative since i stopped playing it months ago (i think it had some cool stuff to start with, but that's toast now).

Guild wars is a pretty solid choice, imo. Though CoX would be worth i try too, there free trial is easy to get.

Personally, I'm waiting for the next stream of MMO's to come out, none of the current ones are really interesting enough in my opinion, they all seem to fall into distinct sterotypes.

    Hi,

I personnaly love GW. It has great graphics but it doesn't takes to much CPU. The community is very nice. It's a very easy game to get into. And at the end you still got some high-lvl content. The PvE and PvP is really great, perfectly balanced,... Vanguard is a great game aswell espially if you like crafting and impressive graphics !

I would also recommend GW. One of the biggest bonuses for that game is there is no subscription. So if your awaiting WAR or AoC you can make the change without having to pay subscriptions over the nest 2-5 months

    Torrential.

You might want to check out Lord of the Rings Online.  It looks to have the best stream of content of any game right now in terms of adding free and paid content.  Nice graphics, new enough that there should be plenty of groups to be had at all levels and isn't a game that is still working to correct issues from its release.

Of all the games you list it has the best potential of a solid future of growth, save maybe Guild wars.  I don't know how Guild Wars2 is going to affect the original game to be honest.

Guild wars was a cool game, but just very different from WoW/EQ type games.   Worth a look at any rate.

Yea as much as I would have liked to seen Vanguard be the game it couldve been, you may have to wait a few more years for it to get out of the "Pay to Beta Test"(PBT) model this game uses.

I wouldnt recommend Guild Wars either.I never felt connected to the world or my character at all while leveling to 20.If all you like to do is PvP go with GW.

I'm currently playing everquest 2.I had my doubts about it at first since it was so different coming from WoW, but I am a 36 wizard and still have that feeling every day at work, that I just cant wait to get home, smoke some buddha, and play EQ2 all night!!

That's pretty funny coming from someone who plays EQ2.  Or let me guess you just started.

It depends which did you like more, EQ or WoW?  If the answer was EQ than Vanguard is probably going to appeal to you.  Most of the bugs have been fixed, hitching sometimes occurs (which is a slight graphical glitch that lasts a fraction of a second).  Any machine which is capable of playing the majority of newly released games can handle VG just fine.  I rarely crash anymore, and run game at highest settings, and also run the game on a laptop on balanced settings.

Vanguard has some of the most difficult/complex end game content out there at the moment.  Population is also fine on all servers but the PvP server.  They just added really challenging and rewarding flying mount quest lines, and are adding end game content each patch as well as continued fixes etc.  So it is in pretty good shape.

Guild Wars is going to be more like WoW, but even further from what EQ was.  It doesn't play like your typical MMO at all unless you count pvp mini games, and pretty simplistic group play.

Guild Wars by far. It's as simple as that lol.
