Error FFXI-3001 - Please help... (Frustrated)

in Final Fantasy XI

Hey...

I just bought Final Fantasy XI yesterday, installed, patched, created character, chose server, then BAM, the error popped up.

Running on Windows XP Pro SP2.

Not running any anti-virus, router, or firewall, completely fresh.

Have contacted ISP, nothing they can do.

ISP is Verizon (located in southern california)

I called up PlayONLINE, they said I do have a router, and told me to go to portforward.com, but i do NOT, so they couldn't help me either.

My DSL modem is not a router, my default gateway is NOT, 192.168.1.1, it's directly from the internet. (71.xxx.xxx.xxx)

Does anyone have any clue?

    Checking the FAQ at playonline.com is the best info I can give you. I haven't really had any experience with that error, so I can't really help.

    regardless of whether or not you have a router, if the POL ppl are suggesting it could be a port-forwarding issue, have you verified that the port is indeed open through whatever sort of firewall you are using?
