As long as the performance is good and the gameplay is fun I don't care if it has 1 bug or 1,000.
    They'll get fixed eventually.

It's this kind of mentality that allows game developers/publishers to get away with it.  This "release now patch later" model that the industry has adopted has got to stop.  There is absolutely no excuse for a company to push an unfinished or buggy game out the door.  For clarification, I'd like to point out that I'm not talking about one or two minor bugs, I'm talking about either an abundance of minor bugs or the existence of even one game-stopping bug.

Welcome to the MMO Industry, the way it always has been. The nature of the game is that they patch a lot.

I don't thing anyone is disputing that MMOs patch frequently. I believe they are protesting the tendency to release games that aren't even close to finished.

    Examples;

    LOTRO = Good release.

    Anarchy Online = 'nuff said

Note that both of these turned out to be some of my favorite games.

Take also for example the Shadowlands expansion for AO. It wasn't even CLOSE to finished. They created artificial bugs to delay players getting to the last few zones so that they could finish them AFTER we had paid for it.

Funcom has a history of doing this, and I think that's one of the things that have people worried about the state that AoC will be in at release.

I've played a few MMO's that didn't have big game stoppers or dozens of bugs at release. DAoC was in really good shape. As was LOTRO. WoW had some minor issues but nothing too bad. Same with CoH. And DDO. Most of the patches in those were more about changing/redesigning game systems or adding enhancements rather than fixing glaring issues.

Have you played any of the ones I just listed?

Anarchy Online was really bad though, one of the worst.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.

Why worry about it?  The game will be good or it will be bad.  Either way, the world will keep on spinning.

Thats neither here nor there. Past events 7 whole years ago.

What I am curious about is what so called things won't be in at release that haven't been touched upon already?

that's exactly what we non-beta testers are wondering.

Will we pay for a game, only to discover that the end-game content simply hasn't been put in the game yet?

Doubtful....but it HAS happened in the past.

Sure, its ok to wonder, but to just assume things wont be in...

We already know Guild Cities are in the beta client already for example. We know mounts are in, we know Drunken Brawling is in, crafting, border kingdom, PvP servers etc etc as well as everything else in this thread. And what reason is them not to have them in at launch? None.

I'll make a "told you so" post on July 20th, to mark 2 months of continued bugs and poor server performance.

    are you serious?

your complaining that the company doesnt give you 100% of the game to try (for free i might ad) and allow you to experience the WHOLE game and thus render buying it useless?

Beta is for testing not play through the whole game before you have to pay for it.

seriously i cant believe you are complaining about such a thing

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Because they're not at the point to be enjoyable yet? Maybe they are, but I'm betting there's people who say they aren't. /shrug

And Death1942, if Funcom tries to build up this much hype (and yes, they've tried to), they should be smart enough to deliver something that will make people at least content. If people were content this thread wouldn't exist. (Not saying there wouldn't be whiners even if they made the level cap, say, 20 or 30, but there'd be alot less).

Or Funcom doesn't give a crap about what we think. They just want the loyal to test it and couldn't care less about the grumpy people, so where is this going?

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

I've come to the conclusion that FC has enough confidence in the pure "WTFPWNAGE" of this game that they're pretty sure the game will sell itself, and all this beta negativity will be forgotten quite quickly.

    wow

it looks like fc will end up pulling an $OE with aoc.

shame as it looked like one of the best games of 2008 then again it is coming out on the xbox 360 so that was the first sign that the game was going to go down hill.

oh well warhammer looks good and eve is still the greatest mmo around.

How about we collectively shut up for once on the forums dooming and glooming, try the game for ourselves and make an educated decision?

I'd avoid reviews all together. Unless they're incredibly objective. Which in my experience, they never are.

Most of what you say is false.  Prove of that is that Drunken Brawling will not even be in the game - thats official.  So you claiming the rest is in is very dubious.

Reason for not having these things in at launch ?  Its not ready would be my bet.  It hasn't been thought through.  The basics of these features are not working on have not been tested.  What we do know is that first 13 lvls will be ready.  Thats always conforting in a 80 lvl MMO game where endgame content makes or breakes the game.

I thought the open beta was for funcom to take a big wedge of cash off fileplanet and for fileplanet to sell a load of extra subscriptions.

And considering that the early entry for pre-orders is also pay to get in, we pay them for 72 hours to reduce day 1 server congestion.

It looks like the publishers want some money up front for this game.

  • kujiikujii Member UncommonPosts: 190

Ya, I am sure they will pump out a game that is only good for 13 levels.   Especially after working on it for 5 years.

  • GruntiesGrunties Member Posts: 859

We've seen a lot of text posts saying system X or Y is in game, but a lot of that, we havent seen in any actual footage, just claims. Well hell, that doesn't put the devs up any higher on the proof horse than the naysayers.

I think it would be unfair and unethical to expect people to blindly believe in a claim that hasn't been backed up. We wouldn't believe it for darkfall so why here? Both titles have released news items about their features, but not provided video footage. Both should be criticized for the same reasons.

I know it was said last year that the game was complete and just in the polishing stage. Funcom devs flamed WAR devs saying that their delay reasons were a joke, and that their own delays were only to redesign the combat system. It was also stated that they were on track for the last two release dates. That female models, sieging, brawling, and spellweaving were all ready to go. Its possible they may have made progress in these areas since those claims were made, but at the time they made them, it has since been proven that it was not the truth.

So, does it make sense to blindly trust a block of text saying these systems are in and working and ready for release now? Personally I don't think so. But I would be happy to give my belief and support if they provide such evidence by release time.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
