AoC pvp beta reviews and info (post here)

airstrikeairstrike Member UncommonPosts: 373

I am making this thread soo we can sum up all the info and reviews in here rather then spread them accros 20 threads.Post the good things and the bad things youve encountered in your pvp beta.

Il start,I actualy played atleast 4 matches with each class except for bear shaman, and ive played about 10 matches with some classes and 20 matches with the herald.Surprisingly the classes are pretty well balanced at lvl 20 atleast, except for ranger wich seems to be bugged (taking 600 HP in one hit without specials).

   The good:

-No lag ,graphic and conection wise,a 40-60 m/s average and 50 FPS at full graphics ,ive got a intel dual core 3.00 GHz,2 GB RAM and Geforce 8800 GTX,imo the engine is very optimized compared to most mmogs (points at vanguard)

-Fun and wide variety of spells and buffs,I cant remember the last time I actualy had fun using ability or spell

-SWG/oblivion level of char customization,no more 200x people running with  face 5 and hair 3 around

-nice animations,no choppiness or animation hiccups, dont know how they did it but great job

  The bad:

-Alot of load screens, tho it takes 20-30 seconds to load, they are anoying

-Quite afew bugs regarding terrain (/stuck command fixes it tho)

-from what ive played in the pve aspect, the starting area was pretty linear (that's only to lvl 5-6),you cant go further then that

That's my review of the pvp-beta soo far,tbh this is the only fantasy mmog that actualy made me want to play and not get bored within the first hour,I usualy hate fantasy setting mmogs. The main thing that I love is the Stygian race and Herald of Xeldi ,for that alone il buy the game.

Your not supposed to write anything did you not read the NDA and agree to it?

    Finally!

Well from my beta experience, the game ran very very smoothly, was gorgeous, the loading times will decrease dramatically, because right now it's an uncompressed game, at launch it wont be. But the loading for me wasn't bad at all..

I had a lot of fun in both the PvP and the short PvE it had.  They dont let us play the whole tortage and it is linear in the part they let us play but I still got into it.  I did not find any invisible walls, the only walls were objects like trees or anything that you would think you cant walk through.  The environment looks great and the gameplay is fast and fun, not as fast as a single player action adventure but still enough to satisfy me.   Character creation gives many choices on how I want to look.  And the armor and weapons look awsome.I especialy like the gear the Herald of Xotli has on in the PvP, they looked kind of like the immortals from the movie 300.  Now I just need to decide which class I will start with when the game actualy comes out cuz i like most of them.

Heres mine from my limited playtime so far

    Good-

    The combat is fast paced

The animations are quite well done

The voice acting isn't terrible though no where near eq2 style voice acting

The performance is actually very good I get 50-60fps at high settings , c2d,8800gts @ 1280x1024

    Bad-

I would rate the graphics as sub-par.  It looks nowhere near the screenshots and the art direction gave me a guild wars vibe (guild wars graphics look better btw)  Though I hear that dx10 isn't implemented in this though I can't see ti making a HUGE difference.  The spell graphics are a particular let down.

I'm personally not a fan of the 1,2,3 for attacking on the keyboard, if it is possible to map the controls to a gamepad I would have much more fun.

*This is only from a level 1-5 perspective* The pve so far is the status quo linear gameply that plagues mmo's.  Though this game is more pvp oriented I can let that slide, I wish it was a little more imaginative.

Overall I've come away underwhelmed.  I plan on playing all night tonight after work and I'll be trying out more classes and pvp play types.  So I hope to come back with final thoughts after Sunday.
