So how is the combat system?

Unfortunately after applying for beta and entering a multitude of contests i was also denied the pvp weekend . My biggest worry has been the combat system and how I would adapt from more traditional systems.

Ive read mostly good things so far from the pvp weekend. Does anyone have anything bad to say about it? I just want to get some more information before I shell out another 100+ bucks for 2 more games that might suck.

I certainly have bad things to say about it, however it is very much a system that is entirely dependent on the individual. If you are looking for a big sweeping statement 'the combat system is good' or 'the combat system is bad', it would be a bad idea to trust it. There have just been too many varied reviews on the subject that you never know which camp you fall into until you try it yourself.

So try for the 'open' beta or get a buddy key post release so you can be sure.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.

If you have played a decently made MMO before (LotRO, EQ2, WoW ...... etc.) you will have absolutely no trouble adapting to AoC.  I stuck with casters and it seemed very similar to every other MMO I've played.  Do I have anything bad to say about it?  No .... If you think you are purchasing the next generation innovative design in MMO combat I can't help but feel you will be disappointed.  If however you are expecting the traditional MMO button mash with a few extra buttons to mash you'll be OK.
