Been following these boards for that past two months and saw many bashing AOC and some NDA-breakers panning the game.
I did not get to participate in the pvp beta-event. Has it helped improve the image and release of the game for some?
Does it seem like the game is on track to be a good mmorpg?

Naysayers are never going to be silenced, but I've seen some people surprised, and alot of people are passing out from excitement. Or so it seems. Still people offering the other side of the spectrum, so it's all balanced.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Order of the White Border.
I will be there May 17th.
I am in the Beta, and pulling 64 fps on my system, and rarely slow down. And this is on Medium settings.
THis is, by far, the best Beta I've been in, and I've done LOTR, Vanguard and now AoC. I can say that, at least for me, it will be worth it.
I would read some of the the gazillion reviews in the last 20posts if I were u.
However u do feel that trolls aren't nearly as active as during earlier weeks.
The LOTRO launch was extremely smooth so that is saying a great deal. I am hoping the official launch is that smooth.
It runs on medium with 35-40 fps on my computer currently. Though, that has a lot to do with some of my other pieces of hardware. For instance, I have 8 Gigs of RAM, Vista Ultimate 64bit, SB X-Fi Extreme Gamer, C2D @2.7ghz. My GPU is my girlfriends 8600GT. So, besides the card, everything else is pretty up to date. A lot of my client side lagging isn't there because of the CPU and my ridiculous amount of RAM.
Still, I've seen screen shots on low, and they still look pretty good. It doesn't take a beast to run this game, but it would be wise to replace that 4-5 year old video card.
I didn't get into the beta either (mainly, because I didn't try) but the reports and videos coming out from the PvP weekend are really heartening. In fact, although I swore I would wait to buy this game until the reviews came out, I am now considering pre-ordering.
The two questions I have left are: 1) is the border kingdom stuff fun and 2) is there enough content to keep the game interesting?
Whats the system specs?
I've been spending some time this evening reading the feedback on some forums. So far it has been overwhelmingly positive. All negative reviews are either nitpicking only or clearly biased from the get go.
About the only really valid points I've seen is that AoC won't be the WoW-killer and is just mildly innovative, not revolutionary. With a bare minimum of common sense you knew that beforehand though.

The border kingdom is not tested during this weekend. It's capture the flag and team annihilation (deathmatch). And those two are in different places.
And you also can try out the first 5 levels. Pvp is at level 20.
i got banned for commenting on the preorder issues and downloader quality...poof banned for trolling
<-- Miagi's alt cause god forbid you don't conform to the masses and have legitimate questions
It's not the second coming, but it's not at all bad.
I'm sticking to my previous prediction:
It will be a good, smooth launch, and sell copies and keep subscriptions at about the same pace and volume as Lord of the Rings Onlne.
Which in the current MMO market is a huge success.
The pvp weekend has piqued my interest enough to maintain my preorder. It's definitely not a WoW killer. It's good, but not zomg amazing best game ever.
For those bored of WoW or their current MMO, I would recommend checking AoC out. If the budget is tight, then I'd wait for reviews. the weekend testers have made a miniscule scratch on a huge surface. We can tell you the combat is fun and engaging, but we can barely say anything about the content. This game is way more fun than LoTRO. The classes are numerous and interesting. I definitely see myself entertained all the way to level 80 on 1 or multiple classes.
but is the siege combat, dungeons, raids, crafting good? No one can say because they haven't done it or it's still under NDA.
Naysayers are manipulative and loaded with biased opinions. Does it seem so odd no one has bad thoughts about this new title...
hmmm, we could be onto something here.
X_-
Just remember that the PvP weekend Beta was run on a seperate client to the General Beta which is some months ahead.
No to mention that the PvP weekend Client is run using the OLD CHEETAH 1 engine
Cheetah 2 was shown properly in January 08.
Honestly.. why?
Why would you open your game up to thousands of players and make it NDA free so every Tom, Dick, and Harry can babble their opinion and screenshots and videos of this that and the other thing....
i.e. why would you open a portion of you game up to public criticizm...
and NOT put your best foot forward?
It's like saying "ok, here is an older crappier version of our game, feel free to try it out and slam it as hard as possible on whatever boards you can find."
Why not show the very latest, the best and most recent client / features etc. to help build positive hype?
It just doesn't make sense to me.
What is better marketing?
1. Showing off a crap version and then when the real release happens people go "wow this is so much better then the crap I played in beta a month ago"
or
2. Showing off the best and most recent version but limiting the content (they seemed to limit the content AND quality instead) so that people get a taste of how awesome it is and want so much more (i.e. pre-order go buy on release etc.)
??
Well I had some fun playing the game, but it still doesnt live up to the hype. I am not bashing it and I will probably play it when it goes live, but by no means is it the holy grail of mmos. I really think the only thing it proved is that it probably wont be the disaster that a lot of people came to expect. Instead, it will simply be another viable option for those searching for an MMO to play.
lol here we go again another wow killer quote jeez im glad it wont be another wow with 6 million
gold farmers. i played wow for 2 years and im so bored of that crap and simple controls it's breath of fresh air to have to use little skill
played lotr for awhile level'd couple toon's to 50 and was way bored. so ya no game is ever the greatest.and no game is for anyone but can we quit the wow killer crap i care less if it ever die's or live's to each his own.
Which is exactly what anyone with realistic expectations was hoping for.

Simply for testing purposes. Optimisation is still under way. NDA prevents more detail. This was just PVP test weekend nothing more.
The thing is 90% of all people had a positive experience, those 10 % like to be vocal against.
Why doesn't Age of conan and warhammer show the very latest client at conventions?? because they use the same one for all of them during beta. Lets just say this client was tried and tested.
Not many naysayers around at the pvp-weekend because Funcom shurely had a hand in to keep the count of negative postings low. Heard of deleted postings and banned users this weekend.
Plus on the other hand half of the FC-crew is this weekend probably posting how awesome the game is.
Are u like a detective investigating FC's secrets or something?
Lol! Seriously some people think it's some sort of conspiracy, and FC is controlling all AoC forums on all sites. Well this period is the only period I'll gladly read "Trollism" 'cause it's so frickin' funnY!
I love you ascension
What you must have an awesome machine to get 64 fps on aoc lol.
Playing: Everthing
Played: DAoC,AC2,EvE,SWG,WAR,MXO,CoX,EQ2,L2,LOTRO,SB,UO,WoW.
I have played every MMO that has ever come out.
