Would you pay to create a players company to buy the rights to SWG?

Would you pay some money via paypal or something simular to set up a company to buy the rights / source code for SWG and then run it as a NFP (Not for Profit) gamers community on Pre-CU as it used to be?
I'm thinking $5 has to tempt SoE / LEC for an old game that really they are not interested in? So that would $10 each from the old community?
(Maybe $5M is too little? too much? - How much would you REALLY donate?)
Or do you think that they are just keeping it going to keep the Star Wars Fran. alive until they can develop a new MMO?

Given that the mismanagement at LEC (Ward, McIntyre) was just as atrocious (if not more so) than SOE's (Smed, Cao) leading up to the NGE, no way in hell you'd get me to TAKE the SWMMO rights even if LEC paid me to take them.
It's one thing for SOE to come up with an idea like the NGE. It's quite another for LEC to also miss the disaster in the making, approve it, and embrace it.
Sorry, until it's clear that Ward's departure led to a total housecleaning over at LEC, I won't buy into the notion that LEC is even capable of allowing a good Star Wars MMO to be made.
And what you'd "buy" would be worthless anyway. I wouldn't WANT one kilobyte of the messed up, spaghetti code hacked over and over again by decreasingly competent Devs over the years. I'd need a rewrite from scratch.
Simply put, the value of the Star Wars MMO IP has been so devalued by the NGE, and the code so devalued by misguided "upgrades" and by being tampered with by unqualified personnel that there isn't anything worth buying here. Where is the interest in a Star Wars MMO these days? There isn't any. The only people who express any at all want the old game back, or a new game based on the old game. No way in hell LEC will allow you to do that, and nothing other than that has any chance of success.
The current game has, what, 10K paying subs at most? It's not even worth ATTEMPTING to fix all the problems that it has (which shows you why SOE isn't). It's not a viable "going concern" worth taking over for nothing much less paying for.
And even if you went do develop a new game that was the dream game of the 300K who once played SWG Pre-CU, you still have to spend a lot of time overcoming the sins of SOE and LEC, even if you were open, honest, and had the best of intentions no one would trust you thanks to the sins of Smed. It'd take a billion dollars of investment to do, and half of that would have to be spent on PR.
Make it sweet for them and let em get money even out the shutdown of current crap ? HELL NO WAY ...
We smart enough (well some of us and i am not including me here) to get PRE CU running without the coneheads code distibutions ...
They welcome to Open Source the code tho and this is the direction we should push them into ...

I sick of playing WoW and none of the other MMO's or even stand alone games are any good (in my eyes - everyone may have a different opinion)
I loved SWG pre-CU and just think it would be a shame to let it slip away.
You can't honestly think that 500,000 (yeah 500k , wtf) would give $10 and a dam about pre-cu.

Uh no I would prefer the servers be shut down and someone turned out the lights before this.
I wouldn't touch a star wars MMO with a 10 foot pole. There's been way too much drama surrounding it. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we never see another Star Wars themed MMO because of all the player hate.
LEC is still responsible for the license to this game. They will NEVER, EVER give up control to this game. This is a dead issue. I hold Lucas and company 100% responsible for EVERYTHING that has ever gone on with regards to SWG. That is how Lucas runs things. Like it or not, anything Star Wars related is ran like a dictatorship from top down. If a company like SoE can't control Lucas and company, how the hell do you think a hodge podge collection of gamers can do any better?

No. This would never work. You would never raise 5mil and they wouldn't even consider it if you did. That's the kind of money they spent animating Yoda scratching his nose. Its nothing to them and even that is too much to achieve from donations. There is no potential for any kind of profit from such a project and they would want to keep full control over their franchise. This is utterly unrealistic.

The rights are worthless I tell you. And if anyone else is foolish enough, even Bioware, to take them much less PAY for them after the fatal damage the CUNGE has done to them...
Well, being rich doesn't equal smart.
There currently IS no value in the Star Wars MMO rights. NONE. In fact, it's a negative value. All because nothing has been done to undo the damage, except "tell us what color to paint the walls" placations of the ever diminishing, <10% of pre NGE NGE player base.

Okay guys and gals - Looking at the poll results It looks like everyone has moved on regarding SWG so shall I make the suggestion that MMORPG close this forum once and for all and we all sit in the dark waiting for the next SW MMORPG?
I have to say that I loved SWG pre-cu, I really felt hard done by with the "upgrades" , I miss it sooooooooooo much and too date no one has come close to it
That said however it looks like it fan base is slipping away so I'm going to go back to stand alone games until some one really offers some thing worth my time and effort and money

I can understand the desire to have access to the original game code, so that people who enjoyed it so much can still play it. I wouldn't pay LA or SOE anything though. They already still have too much money from subscription fees that they obtained under false pretenses. No more money for them from me.
Some of the mods here get their marching orders from Austin and San Diego. If they aren't actually DOING their moderating from one of those cities, but I digress.
They seriously need to vet their moderators a lot better than they do if they want to maintain any shred of credibility.
As I've said and will continue to say, the time in which providing classic or doing a rollback to bring me back and satisfy me is past. I've "moved on" from that or from any hope that the team of blind squirrels running the NGE might somehow find a nut and make that game decent.
I've already found a new MMO home (EVE). My interests with the NGE mainly lay with destroying it. I want it brought to an end so there is closure.
Fortunately we have to do little (or nothing) to destroy the NGE. SOE is doing a far better job of that than we could.

unfortunately MMORPG.COM doesn't support illegal discussion which could be emu's, and other things. It's best not to mention them as this forum is HEAVILY moderatered, as i am sure they know that this is the kind of 'junk' flame forum.
