I know most of the ideas and concepts but im not a hundred percent sure what corporations are and if i should join one asap, or even WHICH i should join. PLEASE HELP!!! really.. any scrap of info and advice is appreicated and bloody desperatly needed! lol.

I think it's extremely important to get in to a corporation fast. The tutorials only cover so much, and especially for newer players, it's important for them to speak to veteran players so that they have an idea of what they can look forward to instead of leaving the game because they thought there wasn't enough content.
Choose the corporation selectively and responsibly of course though. Don't join some corporation that will make you slave mine every day and collect tax from you, you need freedom in the beginning. Join a freelancing corporation or corporation with loose regulations and plenty of helpful players, but one that won't have a problem with you leaving suddenly if you notice you want to switch characters, or simply achieve some other style of gaming, etc.
The other reason I think it's very important to join a corporation is because, as mentioned, the tutorials only explain so much, you want to be able to quickly ask and quickly receive questions and answers so that you can quickly get to do whatever it is you're trying to do, and so you can learn more faster. Apart from that lots of things lean on first hand experience, make a well rounded player and try a bit of everything, then either keep the player or make a new one more specialized in what you want to do.
The EVE community is very mature and friendly for the most part, so feel free to socialize with people in game, try the help channel or recruitment channel for more information.
I personally love helping new players also so if you want more advice and help from someone you can contact me, my ingame avatar name is down there in my signature, and my email address is:

Good luck whatever happens to you, safe sailing!

Hey, glad to see you joining the EVE community.
To answer your first question...corporations are the EVE form of a guild. Which, if you don't know what that is, is a group of players with the same goal and ideas that band together to either achieve a particular goal or prevent others from achieving their goal. That is a very basic definition because guilds/corps can be whatever the players make them out to be. But at least you now have an idea of what your joining.
I have come to realise the importance of joining a corp but at the same time I believe it is in your best interest to join one you want to join. So don't rush things. There are other chat channels that can answer your questions including the noob corp that you start out in. It is filled with other new characters and some other characters that have been around the block but prefer to be solo. EVE is nice in the fact that you can succeed in the game without being in a corp, however, corp do help a ton. For instance my corp provides free cruisers, skills, and equipment. Many corp provide these things along with their advice.
My advice to you is to find a few corp or alliances that look interesting to you. Then join their public channels. Most of them have a channel that they use to recruit new players such as yourself and you can often get to know the people in these channels. Join a couple of these channels and get to know the people of multiple corp before you worry about joining one. You can either ask people in game if they know of corp public channels or just keep any eye out around your starting station/gates for cargo containers that advertise these channels.
"Feel free to hate me, but hate me for the right reasons."
"Your still ignorant if you believe the first thing you see when the blindfold is removed."
"Be smart enough to know I'm smarter than you."
Thanks alot for the help guys, much appreicated. Ill have a look around but youve convinced me that a corp is a "good thing" lol. I have downloaded the 14 day trial and something came up that i forgot about and am unsure of what to pick.....races. This is the last thing im iffy about so if some kind soul could shed some light and give me a realllyyyy rough idea of what races are best for what gameplan then thats me... im off to eve and ill look u 2 up if i manage to get to grips with it (which im sure i will now . thanks. Quicks
races don't matter directly, only attributes. characters in eve have 5 different types - intelligence, memory, perception, willpower, and charisma. my advice to you is get a character that has balanced numbers between int/mem/perc/willpower and lower on charisma. go for a bit more perc/willpower if you want combat char (caldari -> civilre) or more intel/memory (caldari -> deteis, or amar -> true amarr).
Hey, Negotiator pretty much summed it up but here's my opinion as well. Firstly in character creation you can hover over those info boxes to get more information about things so read those if you want official information. But basically this is a run down of what different races are good at, or rather their ships are good at (mind you however, which race you actually choose doesn't matter too much, it just gives you some starting skills and other stuff which you can quickly get later on anyway, but some people like to stick to one race and really be authentic, on the other hand there's pilots like me who is one race, but I can and often do fly ships of other types and use other methods of fighting or what not).
In combat, caldari ships generally have the best shields (ships have shield, armor and structure levels regarding how much damage you can take, shield is the regenerating outermost barrier which leaves no static damage to your ship, armor is the layer that start taking damage when your shield has depleted, it doesn't regenerate itself, and you don't have as much to back you up if you depend on armor, but it CAN be easier to restore if you have the correct ship, structure is the last barrier which is basically the ship itself and it's modules, once this goes out you're screwed). So anyway back to what I was talking about, Caldari ships tend to have the most shields, and the most medium slots (which is good for electronic warfare and shield tanking) they also tend to have the best missile boats (i.e. ships that are good with launching large amounts of missiles, rather than using turrets) If they do use any turrets it's often railguns (long distance hybrid turrets). Amarr ships focus on high tech weaponry (laser beams and smartbombs) which don't use ammunition but take large amounts of energy, likewise their ships are good at maintaining lots and lots of energy reserves and because of all the low slots they have, they are also good at tanking armor. The amount of turret slots they have also makes them good miners. Gallente and Minmatar ships are both like rounded counterparts of one another, they both have decent shields, armor and hull, average amount of turret and missile slots, and so on. A few things differ however, firstly Gallente ships largly rely on their huge drone bays (many of their ships work as carriers) and they often use hybrids (especially blasters, short range guns). Minmatar ships are the fastest and most agile of all of the races which is a fantastic trait, and are profficient with projectile weapons (that's low tech, low energy use weapons with bad tracking and bad rate of fire, but fantastic damage pay-out.
But yes as Neg. says, the attributes you choose in the beginning are much more important than anything what race you choose. Choose a race that you think looks cool and fits your style of gaming, and if those change later then it doesn't matter because you can adapt your character just by training some skills. Attribute are very important however because they are hard to raise and you want to have the right ones at the right levels. Basically if you want to do alot of fighting get your Perception and Willpower skills up, if you want to do alot of science based things like mining, research, etc etc get that Intelligence and Memory up, Charisma is good for people that want to run corporations and that deal alot with NPCs. Raise those which you want to be especially good in, but don't let any of your attributes stoop too low, you will almost definitely use all of them at one point or another. Unless you're going to be CEO of a company, put charisma on your last priority however, but don't forget about it.
Hope that helps
