After the anemic launch of Tabula Rasa and the recent closing of PotBS servers, the MMORPG industry could sorely use a solid release. Let's see if Funcom can help pull out the year from being a repeat of 2007.
Why must there be negative people in the world? Beta was fun, ran well, and I was satisfied with what I saw!
Good job Funcom.
Because they have an agenda to try and reduce its hype. MMOs dont really life of adds, their success is created by word of mouth among players so some people seriously try to badmouth a product in order to promote another game they either are fans of or have a financial interest in.
"You are the hero our legends have foretold will save our tribe, therefore please go kill 10 pigs."
Good of luck to AoC and fans, but I personaly will wait until Christmas and see how game going, I don't look to play for 1 month, but for 1 yeahr minimum

AoC fans (whatever that means) have no say on the release date of the product. Only the developers and their management can make that decision.
I believe we understood that you don't like the game some 100 posts ago. You're entitled to your opinion. Good luck to whatever else you choose to play, if you're actually playing anything.
They still have a month of polish and then the game will have to float on it's own, regardless of what fans or naysayers will say.
I will wait until it goes STABLE and then I might try it out. Apart from that I have high expectations from this one and I wish them luck... but GOLD before release....
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
Ah you're confusing Gold development status with sales numbers, like in the music industry an album can go gold or platinum. In this case, going gold means the game is complete and will now be sent off to some manufacturer to create all the install disks, box it up and send it off the stores for sale.
'Open' beta starts on 1st of May... to the first 50,000 people with active fileplanet subscriptions to click a button on the website.
This rip off that Funcom dares to call 'open' beta *cough cough* just suits pefectly well to the rest of the game and Funcom's handling of it: False labeling at it's finest.
'Game XXX has gone gold' means that development has wrapped up and they are sending the MASTER disk off to the manufacturers to press loads of DVD''s so they can be shipped to the shops.
it does not mean the same as a music record going gold for having sold loads...
/faceplam.
Im sure several people have already explained this
jesus christ... dont you read? Don't waste your virtual breath. The people you are correcting are ignorant, and will always be so.
Well I certainly hope that this title is really a finished product, but I have my doughts. The mmo genre needs another successful mmo to compete with wow and give gamers another good place to have some fun. I just hope that this game does not follow in the foot steps of Vangaurd and end up flopping from bad performance and bugs. A game of this magnitude looks like it will be very demanding on your hardware ,but aso did Lord of the Rings and it really was not to bad on the hardware I suppose only time will tell.

Actually, for a MMO, going gold doesn't mean complete. It means that is the version that will be burned on the discs. You can bet there will patches to be installed before you can play.
As any MMO player worth their salt knows, MMOs are never "complete".
i still wounder why alot of the trolls and nay sayers always get the beta keys... make me die inside
I can only talk from personal experience but I turned nay sayer after I recieved my beta key.
I do think this is the case with a lot of people, allthough certainly not all.
Still going to get it I think, mostly because I pretty much get all big titles at launch.
But lets just say my "hype-level" is fairly low.

To expound a little on your point, "going gold" actually refers to the composition of the master disk used as a source for the CD/DVD copies. That is, the master disk is actually made from gold and plastic.
So for the people saying it's broken what's broken about it i haven't played or tested it so i'm just curious most MMO are like this i think it's impossible for a MMO to release with a few kinks... I'm also curious about the xbox 360 version is it going to come out a year later i'm sure most if not the majority of the bugs will be ironed out by then but i'm just curious if there is any news on that as well?

I used to be hyped but after hearing guildies saying it's not very good I'm a little more realistic about it. I'll more than likely still try it out but when hardcore MMO vets stop testing a hyped up game like this then you know something is very very wrong.

All game start out a bit rough and get fixed through patches, but I am excited that the game is going to be released on May 20th

Congratulations on your beta going gold - I'm glad that the ridiculous hype ends now.
Good luck to Funcom, you will need it.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

Hopefully now that whatever legal issue are set in stone (or Gold if you prefer) they can make the announcement regarding Open Beta.
erm. as far as im aware they already have,
'Open' beta starts on 1st of May... to the first 50,000 people with active fileplanet subscriptions to click a button on the website.
I understand though that betas of anyform are there for testing, and not to give us previews.
so not that bothered. have my Rhino mount pre-ordered lol
Gone gold before it is released... LOL!
