Players from all around the world my ass

redbugredbug Member UncommonPosts: 175

I recently found out in order to play AoC on a EU server you need a EU version of the game. First game I have played ( or will play ) that doesnt simply give you the option to select what region servers you want to play on after logging in. Unfortunately I already pre-ordered the US ver. and may be hard pressed to find a suitable raid guild since I am a day player US times. If anyone has preordered the EU version and wants to make a trade please lemme know on this post.

i am curious to as to why you preordered the game not where you live. why didnt you just ask for the europe one?

I preordered a long time ago, when it first became a option, never having played a game that seperated the rest of the world before. All the MMo's I have ever played, have always had people from different places around the world on whatever server they  choose to be on. Certainly, some had (EU) servers, but only in name and not restricted by software differences.

Yea most MMOs allow you to just pick a server.  It should not matter were you live but since this is going to be on the Xbox 360 as well, I bet for that reason that had to limit the servers based on were the player lives.

    I sympathise with you to a degree. But lets be honest about this;

WoW utilises regionalisation as do / did,

    LoTRo

    City of Heroes/Villians

    Auto Assault

    Dungeons & Dragons

It has it's pro's and cons, and is often done as a result of using different distributors/publishers in deifferent regions of the world. Sometimes these result in seperate business plans and billing. I am not a huge fan of the system, as it can be hard to make the choice of playing with friends from outside your region but having to order from the US or buy the key only, and not having a good playerbase at your own prime time, or having to stick with the local version.

Remember that if you have pre-ordered you should be able to cancel no problem, they shouldn't have taken the full RRP from you yet and may have only taken a deposit, if anything at all. So you can easily pre-order a local version.

Could also have something to do with NA clients being uncensored and EU being censored ( although Germany is the only censored one I'm aware of, Germany IS in the EU ). Different rules and regulations, different monetary systems, etc., etc. all contribute as well.

If you read the thread a bit wrong, it's as if the OP is presented his ass to players around the world.

Back to topic. Continent segregation is becoming the norm. I can't recall of an MMO that was at least a moderate success and did not divide the servers to US/EU/Asia.

Is it too hard to cancel and re-order?

Ho ho, I play from Japan with my Brit friends and I love the time difference. Most raids are weekends and so I can play strange hours anyway, not a problem.

Now weekdays is usually levelling, crafting and casual play as I work 9-5. But the time difference means that the population is lower which means more peace to do my thang and not have to worry as much about gank-bottlenecks, lag, or farmers who make my game impossible.

Playing out of time-sync because of region is ace, trust me it will be a  blessing in disguise.

    Regards
