I really hope I don't have to download this 12gb monster again. FP can barely handle the downloads for the 5,000 keys it gives out each day. Imagine when hundreds of thousands of people are trying to download this thing on May 14th (the day they said pre-orders can download the client)?

Considering the title of the file is 'Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures Client', I beleive it is a General Beta client that will be patched on release. I have beta'd Vanguard, LoTRo and Gods and Heroes, and LOTRO did the same. All I had to do was get patches.
I hope so, too. What a mess that would be!
WoW was the same too. In fact, when I would rebuild my machine I'd ususally opt to install the beta client from an external drive as opposed to feeding my PC CD after CD after CD and so on.
A couple patches and I was up and running.
If it isn't then that's a LOT of wasted bandwidth.
Not sure. Upon installation, the client is installed as "IGN Beta Event", not simply "Age Of Conan".
It may be a client with specific limitations / design for the Open Beta.
Worked fine for me.
The Stranger: It's what people know about themselves inside that makes 'em afraid.
World of Warcraft Open Beta client still works as the original game does from CD's..
In fact many people did not even buy the retail box of WoW.. they just bought the key online and kept playing with the Beta client..
Worked fine for me.
They said they are doing these phased key distributions to help with the download waits /speeds.
Not to mention. when you go to download, sometimes no servers are available. Usually in a few minutes one opens up - but clearly they are throttling.
This is not WoW. Funcom is not Blizzard.
