What is with the Highlander attitude?

When did MMOG players get the attitude that "There can be only ONE!" great or popular game on the market? I can't look at a MMO game forum without seeing game X will kill game Y. Or game Y will destroy games X, Y and Z! Isn't it in the best interests of gamers to have as many strong MMOs as the market can support? To open up as many options and play styles as possible? Just because you personally don't prefer a type of game must you wish it to fail?

I don't particularly like the Anime style graphic games, but I don't wish failure on them! Far from it, I hope they succeed! Maybe one day a dev will make an Anime game that is so good it wins me over to the genre. It won't ever happen if I do my best to rip them apart.

Exactly when did mmos become your home town sports teams that need to do battle with all others. I always hope that any game that comes out is great to play and a success. The more quality on the market the more options for gamers and the more options the more gamers are brought to the community.

But alas, I fear too many would rather don their favorite mmo T-shirt and shout at each other in text about how "My game will totally outscore yours in subscribers!"

That's generally where the problem is.  If people would stop wasting time posting about how much better game X is going to be compared to game Y and just go play the damn thing the world would be a better place, well at least the mmo world.  I guess people are just argumentative by nature and need to validate their spending on certain games or what have you so they bash and belittle the others.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

    It's just human nature.
