OMG. New Low for 3DMark06 Scoring with New Computer almost complete???

Ouch. Okay, never played with 3DMark at all, but out of curiosity I downloaded 3DMark06 to see what my "almost complete" new PC would score. I am still waiting to buy the Graphics Card and Windows Vista 64 Home. But here is what I have built and running so far...

------------------------

Motherboard: Abit IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel

CPU: Intel E8400 Wolfdale 3.0

Power Supply: OCZ GameXstream ATX 700 Watt

Memory: OCZ Gold 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) 240 pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Ch

CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS 9700 LED

Graphics Card: Pulled my old XFX 6800XT 256mb Nvidia card out and placed it in this rig (Until I buy on my planned ZOTAC 8800GT 512mb 700 Mhz card.)

Hard Drive: WD Caviar 750 GB 7200 RPM Sata 3.0 GB/sec ($89 open box special at NewEgg)

Oper System: Windows XP Home (Until I order Windows Vista 64 Home in the next week or so)

---------

And my 3DMark06 Overall Score... an embarrassing 1,649 3Dmarks! What's more surprising is that even the CPU score was an abyssmal 1,097 3DMarks. This is only about 1/10th of the "common score" as per the internet and about 1/30th of the fastest score of like 32,600.

All the motherboard drivers and video card drivers and DirectX 9.0c have been installed already.

But this is the first time I've played with any PC performance scoring programs what-so-ever. I have a feeling my 2 year old PC with the same video card I stole the 6800XT out of with the AMD Dual Core 4200+ might even score higher then this, especially in the CPU department.

Does this score sound right.. or does something sound wrong here??

This feels very wrong to me, especially for having invested about $900 so far into this computer...

lol that score sucks.  OMG you lose at 3D Mark06.  I think its cause its not optimized for the 45nm architecture.  Also the high score is around 55k.  Anyways, 3D Mark06 is just a measurement of power.  It usually has no bearing on games since they are usually written to favor an Intel/nVidia build.  As well as use a high amount of textures.  3D Mark 06 is really were PC gaming is heading in 2 years.  Less textures, more procedurals and scripted effects.  This is why ATI is usually at top on all the scores.

Ahh, after spending some time with everything.. I have seen that there are some compatibility problems with my motherboard and the CPU and I am working to resolve these issues as we speak....

curious why you're buying the 512meg Zotec 8800GT?  the price I see on newegg is a whopping $280 and it falls behind its cheaper counterpart

I suggest you go to tomshardware, do the comparisons with these boards.  At least look at the specs on the 8800 GTS (G92) and compare it to the 8800 GT.
