For those who are unaware, SOE has again disappointed its player base by deciding to delay (again) the combat revamp. Whats really causing the uproar though is we found out that this whole time SOE had 50% of SWG developers working on Jump to Lightspeed expansion pack. We were told several times that JTL had its own development team completely separate from SWG. They are basically making me pay for developing an expansion pack that 1.) I have no plans to play 2.) the base game that I play is terribly bugged still 3.) delaying combat revamp, smuggler revamp, and more to allow 100% swg devs to work on JTL now.
If you go to swg website, you might not know anything is wrong. Thats because they keep deleting any posts asking players to boycot JTL, cancel accounts, daring to critize this delay, mine which called SOE liers for doing this, and others. Two of my friends (one of which is a City Mayor) have been banned from posting by SOE.
I dont care how good EQ2 is, I will never play any game made by SOE again.... fight the power !!

AMEN!!!!
Although, I'm surprised you just now realized this...
I realized it 1 week after SWG launched...
Do you still play SW:G?
Deleting open criticism is absolutely hideous act.
At least NCSoft, Blizzard aren't going to that length. For instance, It's absolute amazement how NC GMs community managers are handling all those harsh/brutal criticism with no less than absolute respect.
i.e. We all know that there are waves after waves of L2 bashing going on in L2 forum and some in CoH forum - lets forget for the moment where all those people came from, also lets forget about whether L2 or CoH deserves such criticism or not - What I'm amazed to see is not once have I seen GM's deleting a post brutally criticising the game even personal insult to Community Managers or GMs. - At some point it made me think do these people really expecting to make a profit by allowing players and fans criticising them mercilessly?
I would rather like to see ignored posts rather than deleted ones.
my room mate and his whole guild on eq have talked about how SOE has been giving them the shaft for a long time. i play eq, but i play a low enought charecter that things that they do, dont really affect me.
on occasion, he has the officers chat on the stero system, so that i can here all the whining that all the guild officers do. sometimes its really funny. but a few days ago, they were deciding what to do about attendance in raids, becuase not that many people were attending them any more. i heard the subject of when world of warcraft comes out, they're expecting to lose half their guild to it. this really supprised me, i thought that might lose half their guild to EQ2. i asked him why WoW was more of a threat than EQ2 and he told me that most of the people he plays with are sick and tired of what SOE is doing, and they dont want to go and deal with that in a new game all over again. he told me that the people that are thinking of moveing to WoW have a blind faith in blizzard, because they are new, and maybe, just maybe, they will do things right.
him, his friends, and most of his guild, have been long time EQ players, and they have spent a lot of time in to makeing the game good to play for their selvs. now, because what SOE has been doing latly, a lot of them are thinking about moving on to something differant. he said that him and a few of his friends might be moving to WoW, and when he said that, it really supprised me.
in the end, i personaly dont know what SOE is doing because what they doesnt affect what i do, but based on what other people have said, i can see how people are getting mad at them.
No I havent cancelled my acount yet but only because SOE banned from posting on their forums. I didnt use any bad language or anything derogitory. I just simply stated the facts and included links to past dev statments to prove my point (that they repeatedly lied to us). I posted a smiliar one with a different title hoping it wouldnt get noticed, didnt work. They deleted my two postings, 3 postings from a friend of mine, and outright banned another friend after 1 post.
Im keeping my account active for a few weeks at most. Im on-line trying to gather support for everyone to cancel their accounts on a certain date to hopefully get SOE's attention. With thousands of players though, my hopes aren't high.

I did the same thing... quit SWG and went to CoH. It got boring really fast so I tried several other games.
Horizons - crafting was unique and interesting for a bit. However items dont decay at all. Also anyone can craft AND do combat at same time so nobody really needs to buy your stuff. Combat stunk, really boring and mobs were just awful.. maggots and other dumb things to kill just didnt cut it for me. finally, nobody plays the game these days. You might see 10 people on at most.
DAoC - I tried it for 10 days, didnt care for it from day 1 but gave it a chance. Graphics are really bad, especially if you've played swg. Also couldnt see a damn thing, its so dark at night. I kept thinking where's my personal light or torch ? For the first week I played, I heard the same spam... "how do I turn up the gamma / brightness ??? Answer, you can't. Combat for wizards was dumb, you cant cast spells once a mob gets into melee range. Your attacks get interrupted, that really bugged me. Im used to playing a wizard type and having heal spells get interrupted but basic attacks ? I never did know where I was or where I was going, never did figure out map options, if there were any ?
CoH - just combat, nothing else to do. Cant explore, can't craft, no social aspects really, nothing to do. Its good for what it is, a first person shooter game with other live players... not a mmorpg in my opinion.
Eve - Learning curve was too steep for me. I spent a week trying to figure out how to move my ship. Basically, all there seemed to do was find an asteroid and mine from it. Then sell, buy a bigger ship, and repeat. Only controls, interface, etc was very difficult to figure out. Graphics are nice though.
AC2 - Bad graphics, terrible combat, awful game from the start. Character creation is about the worst around. Very few options to make your toon look unique. After making some clumsy looking Orgre type, I stepped through the tutorial and watched this ugly ape swing his wooden club at bugs or something dumb (dont recall). After 10 minutes of that, I'd had enough. Just looked so bad, couldnt see myself spending anytime on it.
I've tried a few other games, but they were geared for PvP which I dont care for. I'm just gonna wait till the holiday season. By then we'll have Matrix, WoW, Middle Earth (hopefully) and Vanguard.
Bah, the censorship over there is so bad.... get this they actually deleted my last post also. The post was titled "frustrated, please read" then the subject just said visit this site if you're unhappy with the state of the game (with a link to here)
Deleted for what reason SOE ??? Dont want players to find out the truth eh ??? God do I despise SOE.
Man we need some way to spread the word that this site is the place to come for inside info on games where the facist developers attempt to squelch people spreading the word of their hideous acts.
Way too many games are trying to prevent people from telling others about all the screwed up things they do and have very hypocritical policies and think they can get away with it. Honestly it makes me sick.

There was a post in response to TH's announcement of the combat revamp delay that got up to 100+ pages. Then Thunderheart deleted it, even though it was his original post ! So another was started in response to TH at same site, under Development forum section. Its up to 18 pages already. Hopefully it will avoid scrutiny over the weekend.
Can someone on staff here at mmorpg.com respond to this ? Im curious to what you think and also if you could ask SOE what the hell are they doing to their fan base ???
SOE, just like EA, is driven only by profits. Quantity over quality. As for censorship, well that in itself shows what kind of a company we are dealing with. EA releases (and then cancels) mmrpgs left right and center, while SOE focuses on expansions way too much at the expense of the original game. Lesson learned, say no to EA, say no to SOE.

Deleting one's opinion, Blocking Criticism to serve its own interest
= Not Democratic = BAD = Easy to do = Fascism = Communism
Preserving one's opinion however stupid, bad it is, Guaranteeing the exposure of open criticism
= Democratic = GOOD = Difficult to do = Takes gutt
SOE should learn from NCSoft & Blizzard.
What I'm looking for in company is not how much criticisms there are about their product, but it's how the company react faced to the criticism.
1. Willingness to listen to criticism = GOOD.
2. Willingness to listen to criticism and responds to the demand in timely fashion = VERY GOOD.
3. Willingness to refuse criticism by counter criticism provided there is reason behind it = GOOD.
4. Ignoring criticism by silence provided there is reason behind it = AVERAGE, TRUE NEUTRAL
5. Destroying, abolishing, blocking criticism = VERY VERY BAD.
SOE is role-playing very bad avatar
The best way to make a point to a business is to not give it any money. That, coupled with well-reasoned and tempered criticisms, merits action. But if you keep giving them your money they are far less likely to make changes.
That is the bottom line. If you keep paying, you are simply perpetuating the conditions you hate. That's masochistic, at best, and downright stupid at worst.
my first 2 mmorpgs where from SOE (ps, swg)
i have decided i will never touch EQ2, even if WoW sucks!

I dont see where the EA complaint came from. EA is a great comapny, and if your still moping about a cancled game or two...
But Sony's track record is far from good lol.
Sony is slowling killing themselves.. but they has the PS , and aslong as they have a comepeting Consol, they can do what ever they want with all thee extra money.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
The big three in the MMORPG market today.... EA, SOE, Microsoft
The bottom line is, they are concerned about their shareholders first.
For a more game focused company (but also concerned about profit), seek the indepentents. They are the ones breaking new ground in game design, and are far more willing to hear the words of the players. The are less concerned about shareholders and more interested in the concerns of their gamers, because they play the games they make.
I'm not sure you can pin this one on SOE. Rember, they aren't running this game alone. Lucas Arts has a huge say in how the game is run. Just take a look at how SOE's two big games have approached their next expansions.
SWG (as you have pointed out) has delayed their combat revamp in favor of cranking out their next expansion. It could be argued (by someone other than me) that they want the extra people to make sure JTL comes out relatively bug free. Of course, it could also be argued that it doesn't matter if JTL comes out bug free if the combat system is still so messed up.
EQ decided to delay their next expansion in favor of ironing out the (many) bugs they had already in the game. It is a huge shame that they let the game get into that shape, but at least they are trying to fix the game as it is before releasing a major expansion. Of course, it could also be argued that they just did that for the PR and the expansion wouldn't have been ready to go live anyway.
The naysayers and the fanbois can both make arguments in their favor, but since both games are handling things exactly opposite, I would think that the teams have more to do with the direction of the game than SOE.
I don't know much about SOE so i can't comment about SWG... but i can see their side of the story.
Censorship sucks, and is wrong... but in this case they have a right to what shows up within their domain.
Lets say you wanted to do a protest against McDonald's..... you'd be allowed to protest outside , but try to protest inside the restaurant and you'll be arrested or chased away.
The same could be said for their forums. Its their website and place of business, so they can do what they like.
I find it humorous that you can't even read the SWG forums unless you have an active acct. However, having been there a fair bit when I did play, unless things have changed drasticlly, a 'reasonable' post is still a terrible sight to behold, so I'll withold passing judgement on the deletion thing.
Anyway, as has been said a million and one times before, if you don't like it, stop paying for it. If you have a hard time grasping this simple concept, then you're beyond any hope of redemption. All the online sit ins, and mind numbing petitions don't mean a thing. Nor is it some holy crusade either. Just quit, and send them an email politely, and professionally stating why you cancelled your account. Provide details other than 'ur game sux' for maximum benefit.

They panic, so... just hold them down
I could live like this
I'm closing in; hate all around
I could be like this
Hearing them; them in my head
How can they be so sweet... sweet?
SOE is not the most user-friendly gaming company out there... If you didn't know that by now, you haven't been playing long enough.
Hopefully Blizzard can do everything that SOE lacks.
I don't know much about SOE so i can't comment about SWG... but i can see their side of the story.

That pretty much sums it up. Constructive criticism tolerated, deconstructive comments obliterated. And I doubt this would measurably impact SOE's bottom line. Even Blizzard has to contend with ugly rants and complaints once the newlywed relationship wears away after WoW's launch. Threats and vilification seem to go hand-in-hand with MMORPGs - it seems almost fashionable to trash these unwieldy online patchworks. Attempting to satisfy everyone all the time is a frustrating and daunting thorn for the MMORPG production crews, and the dedication of some customers have twisted into a wave of backlashes and anger.
1. T is for your torch.
2. Print out a map
3. If you would have spent 30mins looking up info on the game before jumping in, you would have known how to play a wizard. The learning curve is very small for daoc(for the basics at least). Wizards should almost always be able to kill a creature before it reaches them(yellow/blue cons). So being interupted is hardly a problem in PvE. PvP is different because as a wizard you can kill people extremely fast.
4. Bad GFX? DAoC has got some of the best GFX in any game currently out. Only usurped by CoH SWG(barely) and Lineage 2. I couldnt find any other game with better gfx and iv'e played almost all of them.
It bugs me to see people judge a game that they didn't even bother to learn. It shouldnt be like anything you played before. Perhaps wizards had heal spels in your other game but not in daoc. Casters are able to be interupted for a reason. If they werent, they would completely own that game.
Let me add to your post, numatic.
I played a wizard in EQ and most of the time my attack spells got interrupted. Untill you got to the upper levels and your concentration his high enough, each time you get hit any spell you are casting gets interrupted unless you were extremely lucky. Admriker444 is making it sound like your basic attack spells never get interrupted.
Also, since he said he played a wizard type, I'm guessing he played EQ. EQ used to not have any maps at all and infact that wasn't added until the expansion with the frog player charactes. How do you think we got around then? At least with DAoC you not only have road signs (the stones with markings) but there are people you can ask for directions.
