There are 200,000 ex-SWG players out there still looking for a sandbox MMO to call home. There are millions of old-timer gamers like myself that are bigtime fans of the Fallout series (FE clearly inspired by those games) There is a large demand for a post-appocolyptic MMO. Take a look at any post here where folks are asked what setting would you like to see besides fantasy or sci fi and the top one (next to horror) is post-appocolyptic
The potential is unlimted for Fallen Earth. I could see the game getting 500-750k players easily with a halfway decent build. That makes it a top 5 MMO in North America
Fallen earth will not be released for sure in 2008 , maybe not even 2009, thats why it is not on the list,
On the other hand same goes for Darkfall too but i put it on the list cause the demand was too damn high....
PS. Rigonn good luck with finding the game u want, if ur find it ever. You demand too much from a game.
Anyway, if u find it plz pm me instantly so i can join !!!!
True, Fallen Earth won't be coming out for quite a bit BUT i'd be willing to wait only IF the game is good enough.
To FFandDB as I keep repeating, a game already gave me what i wanted once, SWG, but all of a sudden it got destroyed. Be sure to hear me ROAR once I find a game with the requirements I demand, I'll be the happiest man on earth.
What I am truly looking for is the basic essentials of an mmo. What are these? 1. A Game where you have to dedicate more than a month to achieve max level. 2. Reasonable play time. Not like WoW where you have to dedicate your life in order to get gear and such. 3. A good GM community that actually pays attention to the player. 4. SKILL-BASED GAMING offering more than 6+ lousy classes but letting you choose from over 20 classes such as SWG was before. 5. Good enough engine that does not obligate an upgrade to your computer nor removes the necesity of evolving mmorpg's. I could keep on going but these are the simple details I ask of an mmorpg.
Heh, looks like Saga of Ryzom would've been exactly what you're looking for! Too bad its currently shut down while its in the process of changing hands. Who know how long that'll be before its resolved and if it even comes back online too!

I miss Ryzom...
I dont think Ryzom will ever get back. I spent some hours playing it but dont think is what u would call an awesome MMORPG .
neosteam launches its OB last May 20 and currently playing right now... i'll tell you if i'm going to vote for that one... it has the potential though... a lots of features inside the game
As long as The Chronicles of Spellborn and Jumpgate Evolution turn out to be good games that have healthy communities I do not really care what the next big game is ;p Im assuming by next great game you meant the next market leader for mmos.
WoW will still be the number one subscription based mmo at the end of this year, and most likely when they release WOTLK they will get new players, retain old ones, and perhaps bring back some who left. I really doubt any game will become the new market leader any time soon.
I am not really looking forward to it, but Aion could easily give WoW a run for its money (In terms of subscribers) if it laches on to the korean/chinease market that it seems to be appealing to.
The only way any mmo will become the market leader is if Blizzard drastically changes WoW to the point they lose 3/4 of their subscribers. Which is entirely possible, just need to ask SOE ;p
Edit: btw I would not class Age of Conan as an mmo at this point, 50 people or so maximum in a zone before an instance is made of that zone, and a maximum of 98 people in siege does not make your game an mmo, just a multiplayer online game. Im not saying that it is not a good game, it probably is or will be in a few months. But I think that if a game has less that 300 people minimum in a zone it is not an mmo at all.
Atleast when Arena Net made Guild Wars at no point did they claim that it was an MMO and as such they did not charge monthly for it. Btw did someone say earlier in the thread that star craft 2 was an mmo lol

True true, WoW will be retaining players/bringing back old ones once WOTLK comes out, that's their commercial strategy. To bring something new every so often where you can still be a very active player and with time brong out these expansion which give you the urge to play even more since the amount of content is even more, although it's all the same crap.
Although I think WotLK is going to be awesome, Aion being one of the only fully flyable worlds seems to be a pretty promising niche. The graphics are very fun too.
True, Wow will retain a lot of old players with WotLK, but if it goes bad and doesnt add something refreshing to the game (just a new class and a new continent) WoW will die for real in the next months.
Have to play all those games, right now I've played AoC, have an idea what Aion, WHO (Warhammer Online), WoW and Stargate will look like, and the rest are still in waiting. But I were to take a wild guess I'de bet on................ ............................. .................. ...............*brain explodes*
ex-SWG around 200,000 looking for a sandbox MMORPG?
I put the number in the millions for those that want a sandbox type of MMORPG.
I got WoW; I got PvP; I got grindy quests; I got raiding - but I do not got a true sanbox MMORPG (and this is what many of us want the most).
So very true! The true gamer wants a vast world with alot more than simples classes and a mob to hit. People want a whole "world" such as SWG presented in the past. (I keep mentioning SWG just because it was THE best game at it's moment, SOE lacked the brains to see that and decided to destroy an empire which could have been top 5 at this moment.)

SWG could have been the "WoW" for sci-fi.
The opportunity is still there for an MMORPG such as SWG with that level of world immersion, character customization, and sense of freedom.
Yes, SWG was awesome, but dont forget that 2008 is a year of many new MMO releases. I do believe that one of these games will become what we are all hoping for ....Imo it will be either Warhammer, Aion or WotLK.

Also another true statement, yet I have not seen any which gave the option of so many professions and the ability to gain xp towards what you do. If you Arm weapons you get weaponsmith points and if you heal other you gain points towards medic. Same with weapons if you used you fists for combat you gained points for TK (which was one of the most poplular) and if you use sword you can become a Swordsman. By time you had to work during a timeline of a year or more in order to become a Jedi, realistic gameplay time. No game has ever presented this in any way, what these games give you are less than 10 races/classes etc etc, classes which are chosen since the beginning.
What i hate about almost all new MMO is that they all got about 7-10 classes.
I have played a lot of RPG , and i mean ...wtf . There should be a lot more classes in every game. At least 15-20. I know the balancing will be difficult but this would give a lot of depth to the game and it would be very difficult for people to get bored with the game after some years
You can make so many chars this way and its time would like u would be playing from start.

Yeah really would like to see a MMO with over 13 classes. Would be awesome and the game wouldnt be boring even after months , since u can always reroll another class

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo true but I prefer only 1 character with the ability to chose your class, like SWG!
